Yeah I'm a little unsure what to do about standard. Half my cards are no longer used in it so do I just wait? Pirates seems fun to play tho.

Those formats usually have too many cards for me and I don't wanna have to think about all the different possibilities. I like knowing every card that is in the set instead of losing to things that I didn't see coming.

Why would you play a format where the first person to draw umezawas jitte automatically won?

you can't play a rare card in a pauper format, and even if you could, everyone knows it's not real Kamigawa block pauper tiny leaders unless it's also Iron Man, which means your opponent concedes the moment they realize they'd have to rip up their expensive card because of your inexpensive artifact removal.

One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I like this set so far.

3 pre-releases

Played Red/Green/White dinos (1-1-2)
Played Black/Green/Blue Jank (2-1-1)
Played 2HG (I was the red/white citter blaster deck, my other head was blue/green control mill) went 2-2

Drafted last night, played Dino pirates (did ok at first, because I had enough Crushing Canopy, but my little guys couldn't get past BIG BUTT.
Really enjoyed the games though. It was like a 90% dick-free weekend.
I will have
Limited Access
on weekends.

I would maybe value field of ruin over scavenging grounds.

I expect that tokens deck might make a strong appearance meaning its worth considering running more board wipes in the side then just the 2. I'm not a great control player tho...

Temur Energy, B/U control, R/B aggro, Abzan Tokens are the main decks I would expect to see. Blue/White Approach could maybe slip in there?

Oh well... yes. But I wouldn't run the scavenging grounds at all and just have 3 ruins or at least 1 more in the sideboard.

Its a hedge against gifts decks and also my plan in the mirror is to mill them to some extent, so I want to be able to stop shenanigans with hulk/want another desert for milling.

there is also commit/memory which people might splash.

Just feels like a sideboard tech over mainboard.

I hate putting lands in my sideboard.

Commit to memory is the kind of card that you might play in temur, not control.

Right thats the point I was trying to make. Temur splashes it sometimes so I was validating that it was a better card to play then I thought.

I have no other opinions other then the land change.

What do Goni and Vizier of many faces offer over Hostage Taker in the board?

Gonti is not for the same matchups hostage taker is for. It's for the mirror and grind games specifically, which means it can come in for matchups where hostage taker is bad (i.e. heavy removal decks with few creatures)

Vizier of many faces is specifically a sb card against cards like bristling hydra and carnage tyrant, against which hostage taker does nothing. The fact that you get two uses out of it also makes it better.

I'm going to give R/B aggro a shot. It's cheap and easier to play and will probably get me into standard again.
