Torchlight II Beta

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)
.
Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Torchlight was too awful (of a diablo clone)... it would be an insult to Diablo III and myself if I were to play this.

except Diablo 3 is 60 bucks and has shitty DRM.

This is free(for a weekend) and has no DRM.
Also, for the cost of Diablo 3, you could purchase 4 copies of the game for yourself and 3 friends.

AND the studio that made the Torchlight games is staffed by the team that was originally responsible for Diablo.

So.......

Except Diablo III is a complete game that many people also own so you can play with them

This is probably only gonna be played by me for 2 days IF i did it.
For the cost of any game, you could purchase 1200 gumballs, doesn't make it a more efficient use of money.

AND I still think Torchlight is a Diablo II clone which is badly done, regardless of who made it.

Torchlight was a lot of fun, and torchlight 2 will have mod support and lan among other things. It looks like it will be good. Dunno what junpei is talking about, which isn't unusual.

Riiiiiight but if I want to play with my friends on Diablo 3, they have to
A. own the game($60? Bitch please)
B. get through the shitty DRM
C. play with my friends

Diablo 3 cannot be played offline and must be online all the time.

How can it be a "clone" when it's made the same people who made the original? That's like saying that Starcraft is a clone of Warcraft or something stupid like that.

I'd point out that Torchlight was made as a Diablo clone,
intentionally
, and stripped down to pure dungeon diving,
intentionally
, and that it did as it was meant to.

And that it was some of the same guys that made the original Diablo. Etc. Etc.

So no one else? Just me? k.

The same way that Respawn can make a Call of Duty CLONE if they wanted to. It's like if EA released Madden and then released a game called Manning which was a football game just like Madden but you could only play half of the modes/teams. Manning would be a Madden clone stripped of content.

But whatever, if you guys don't want to/don't have friends who want to shell out 60 dollars then do whatever; I was just expressing my opinion.

Never played Torchlight, but from what I've read, TL1 was rushed out the door as funding for it literally dried up.
TL2 should be a much more polished game as it is being developed without worries of funding. Release date has already been pushed back significantly since the devs werent happy with it.

As far as end user freedom to do with the game as they want, this is much more how Diablo and to some extent D2 were. Game world is obviously not comparable.
