Here.

I have about 60-70 caches to log, I'm considerably above 700 finds at present. :effort: >.>

I use a Magellan eXplorist GC as a dedicated GPSr, and then my Android has the free and awesome c:geo app.
Still haven't broken 100 yet. Had a lot happen. But now I'm ready to get back into the swings of things and break out the camelbak

I registered, even gave Elmo recruiting credit (i don't know if that gets you anything or not).

I have an android based smartphone but I don't want to play 10 bucks for the app, so it's about finding a cheaper and or free option for me.

On Android, c:geo is considerably better than the Geocaching.com app, T-Bone. I've tried both, and most reviews say the same.

If you live in an urban area in the US, you're likely to see a lot of LPCs (lamp post skirt caches). The main issue with them is that there is a lot of them and they are your typical parking lot cache; the first few are cool, but they can get old quickly, because there isn't much to appreciate in terms of view/history of the place. If that happens, don't despair--branch out on what you are searching for! There are very original caches out there, just look out for their descriptions and commentary on other users' logs. Keep an eye out for those green areas you never knew existed, geocache hiders have a knack for taking you to cool places you don't know about.

I live in a more rural area. I was at the park this morning bird watching. Too bad this topic wasn't necroed yesterday, there are like 20 caches in this park. Had to have driven past three of them and hiked right past 4 of them.

I've been caching a bit here and there whenever I have some free time. At 133 caches now. A few weekends ago I found a park with 4 awesomely hidden caches by the same person.

Talking about schadenfreude, ealier this year I was hunting a cache near a public sports field. There were no less than 15 dummy caches placed in the same region, besides the real one. I wanted to kill the placer....

Downloaded c:geo.

May be minutes away from looking for my first cache. Quite a few withing walking distance or a short drive from my house. I see there are multiple caches at parks I'm at all the time.

I'm probably about to walk to one. Hope I find it. Hope I'm not more excited than most people before they go look for their first one.

Well I went to the road it said it was on. Went all up and down the road. Checked every tree. Every slope. Everything. The hint on the website was "up" and I didn't see anything "up". GPS told me I was 1.84km or 1.48km away the entire time no matter how far I walked. But it changed direction. There were even pictures but they didn't help. Gave up and started walking home and a cop pulled up saying someone called to say we were hitchhiking. Lol. I dunno. Not a very successful attempt to say the least.

That's not a very good GPS program if it's telling you you're that far away. Or the GPS was right and you were etc.. :P But probably it's probably the GPS's fault; I don't trust phones in this regard.

Whether you get hooked on geocaching is definitely dependent on whether you find your first one. If you don't, well, your first experience is frustration!

Do you have a link to the cache page? or if you don't feel like giving that out, the difficulty/terrain ratings?

Well the name of the cache is the same as the road name and it's not a very long road so....

I'll PM you the link.

Also, I'm sitting in a restaurant and I'm apparently 80 meters away from a cache.
