Now I only have to pick the right altar...

Next time, remember that the portal is technically a trap, so you can find it by reading a cursed scroll of gold detection. It's how I got through.

1- go to the bottom of the dungeon
2- get the amulet of Yendor
3- go back to the top of the dungeon

Pretty simple, really. Just keep away from cocatrices and you're gold

I really hate dwarves and always kill them on sight, because I don't like what they do to levels when left alone with a pickaxe, but I've been playing lawful characters and more than once have been left to die by an angry lawful god mid-prayer.
