Ludum Dare 24 -- Let's make a game!

So me and My Milked Eek have been participating in the "Ludum Dare" game Jams.

Ludum Dare is a thrice-yearly event, where you have 48 hours to create a game, by yourself, from scratch. It is a great opportunity to flex your creative and programming muscles. The rules are pretty simple: All game assets (programming, images, sounds) must be created within the 48 hours. You can use game making programs and publicly avaiable libraries, so long as you publish the source code to your game by the end of the 48 hours.

It is a really good challenge for someone who wants to get started with computer game making.

Ludum Dare 24 will be on the weekend of 25th and 26th of August. Me and MME will be participating again, and if anyone would like to join us, it would be nice to have more people to exchange encouragement with during the event.

Chamber: The theme gets announced when the competition starts.

Right now we are in the "theme suggestion" phase (see the top blog post in the ludum dare link I posted). On the week before the dare, everyone gets to vote on the themes suggested, elimination style. The most voted theme is announced right when the dare officially starts.

I've always loved spectating but I've never actually participated.

Conway? I remember doing something similar to this in netlogo but with patches.

Is it just a sim, or are there actual controls?

Well, right now you can place/remove 'cells/colonies' in the 'green' section while its paused. the 2 black boxes at the top start/pause respectively.

if you realize that you can place them when its paused like that, then you aren't missing naything.

I'm no where near done and still going yes. That was just a status report of sorts.

Ohhh I see, you can only create the cells in the green zone at the bottom of the play area when you pause.

Edit: Oh, alright.

Sort of have an idea in the back of my mind, will report back if it ever turns into anything.

Still not quite a 'game'. Lvl 3 rom level select is basically a sandbox, just don't hit the switch in the middle.

My hackish way of handling gates/switches has lead to a glitch I can't find. Taking a break to get my eyes off of it, at this point that may mean I don't finish.
