Also, CS:GO is rumoured to be in The international 3 ($1.6m prize pool).

1.5 baby! Hell yea! CS:Source was an abomination and anyone who played it and actually liked it should be ashamed of themselves. I haven't checked out GO yet, though. Is it any good?

I remember playing on LAN on campus back in the days of 1.5, good times...

No real interest in spending money on CS:GO right now, though. I've got more than enough games to keep me happy for the forseeable future.

Most people on the official forum agree that it's better than source. Maybe after 1-2 years it can be as good or better than 1.6.

It's counterstrike. I don't really see a difference.

I enjoy it for about 20 minutes every couple of days.

CS is best for competitive play. When you judge CS, you mainly talk about skill ceiling, competitive viability, etc. 1.6 is way better than CS:GO atm.

GO is pretty freakin awesome. Let me dispel any rumors that it's like Source. It's a mix of the best elements of 1.6 and Source imo.

absta is just being a hipster and saying 1.6 is better cuz its the cool thing to try to be oldskool CS...
...but everyone who's anyone knows that 1.6 is t3h_suxx0r compared to GO. ;) Nah I'm jk 1.6 is still fun but it's kinda like trying to play The Adventure of Link when you could be playing Ocarina of Time.

I'd say GO is to Windows 7 what Source was to Vista what 1.6 was to XP. You can still use XP and not have the problems you have with Vista, but anyone who seriously uses computers these days isn't really still using Windows XP unless they're a complete cheapskate and living in the early 2000s. It's maybe not exactly like that but it's a pretty apt comparison.

Yeah MoS, I enjoyed playing 1.5 at 10fps on my 1GHz 256MB RAM beast of a machine. Let's party like it's 1999 :P

I really enjoyed when Source came out. It felt nothing like 1.6 but I loved the new map designs. Aztec was a particular favorite of mine. I nearly shit my pants when I got flashed the first time because it was so different than in 1.6. I still remember being in awe at how awesome everything looked. Alas, everything didn't play the same, and pros didn't like it, but I didn't care because THE GRAPHICS DUDE. LOOK AT THEM.

What's comforting about GO though is that whereas CS:Source was made to show off the Source engine and had little to no input from the 1.6 pros, Valve went out of their way to poll the people who would be playing CS GO competitively and see what they thought of things and tweaked things so the pros would come back from other games and play CS again. They want to revitalize the FPS community (which seems to badly need it at this point) and this is a huge step.

My 2 cents. I look forward to playing GO a lot and getting competitive again. Right now I'm barely .500 on my K/D and I'm struggling to get kills. So it might be fun to play with me, who knows? :P

Spoiler: lol remember this? wonder how accurate this is now

Ninja - 1.6 took time to become what it is. As long as Valve keep updating GO, it could get as good or even better.
Aztec is a fundamentally broken map (favoured towards CTs). Dust_2 however is perfect, literally.

Don't get me wrong I didn't like it for the balance, I just loved the way it looked. Compared to 1.6 aztec it was practically a wonderland. Same with Inferno.

So far I'm satisfied with the map selection for GO (Aztec, Dust, Dust2, Italy, Train, Office, Inferno, Nuke) and I'm REALLY excited about how they fixed Dust (1) to become a viable map where it was previously rather stupid and lopsided. It's been fixed into a completely playable MP map. The other maps are largely the same, but Dust has undergone a major revamping, adding a lot to the "forgotten side" of the map. They made the underpass bigger, there's stairs on that side, there are boards across the underpass ramp so you can pass from the T tunnel exit to the CT sniper camping doorway, and it makes planting at B (which has been moved) a viable strategy now.
