Need a good gaming headset

I need a good gaming headset that's relatively cheap with decent sound quality and microphone. I've never shopped for headsets before, so I don't really know where to start. Any ideas?

"Cheap" and "Good" don't mesh well together. If you want a good headset, go with Razer Carcharias.

Routine day with a dirt cheap brush
Then a week goes by and it goes untouched
Then two, then three, then a month
Then the rest of your life, you beat yourself up

I just use a cheap $35 over-ear headset by plantronics that i found at best buy, only issue is extended use can be kind of uncomfortable if you're not used to it since it kind starts to dig into the top of your ears after a few hours (probably an issue that can be fixed with cheap modifications)

to my knowledge i have no major sound quality issues

My Plantronic headset is just a step down from the one peg has. Never had any issues with it until my sound card started to get wonky. But that was computer issues not headset issues

By "cheap" I mean I'm not a total audiophile. I don't need great sound, just passable sound. When I'm looking at lower-end headsets, I more worried about durability than sound quality.

My little brother got me this headset a couple years ago. It works great, really durable, awesome mic. Maybe a little on the pricey side, but not obscenely so.

If I'm not mistaken, The first link from Timeater is the one that JD is talking about. I also have it. It's plenty good. Only complaint is the mic picks up A LOT of background noise, and if you live in a place where people are always doing shit, it can get annoying for your friends.

I use a Logitech G930. Don't know how expensive it is, because it was a Christmas present. But I like it a lot.

I use Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, Microsoft store shows it as 40$ but I remember getting it for really cheap somewhere. Really good sound quality and extremely comfortable, and I've never had any problems with it. Microphone is pretty nice as well.
I'll explain it to you. You have to get someone else to understand it for you.

Some headsets are made for or work better with specific setups.

Gaming on ps3,, 360 or PC?

wireless or wired? How long are your typical gaming sessions. As that will affect if you want replaceable batteries or not, etc.

I use razer chimera for xbox and PC and turtle beach px5 for ps3.. Also have a px21 kicking around just in case I run out of batteries

I use a logitech one, but it's not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. It's normally $140, but we found it for $100 on sale at Best Buy. My boyfriend has the same one but wireless and his was one $160 or $180 or something. They are super nice.

amazon.de has a headset for 4 Euro. I buy one about every 6 months. Now that I have two and dont carry it in my bag back and forth from work, its holding up a lot better.

my big problem with headsets is that they give me a headache after a while if they're the normal headband type. I don't know if I just have a gigantic head or what, but either they're too loose or they pinch. I need to get a new headset as well. the mic stopped working on mine.

does anyone have a 5.1 or 7.1 headset? does it actually sound like surround sound?

Both mine do a great job with sound. Though, for the price they better lol

They even have presets for different types of games and can customize your own

I also need a little bit of help. I'm looking for a good headset because I purchased an xbox about 3 weeks ago and the headset that came with it is a piece of crap and it already shorts out. This is my first time really getting into gaming so I don't know what the better products or brands of headsets are. I've been doing a lot of research and I'd like to spend under $100. I've been looking around and I found this site http://www.squidoo.com/best-wireless-gaming-headset that has reviews on a bunch of different headsets and after reading the reviews and having a $100 price range I really like the logitech g930 model. I'm hoping some of you may be able to give me some advice or give me some other suggestions before I make the purchase?
