i could be wrong, but it seems to me this has changed somewhat. In prior Civ games, expansion was so necessary that anything that delayed your second city even a turn would cascade.

Anyway, I found it really interesting. I don't know that I think it's obvious, but I'll always move if I see a better location from my start location. Regardless of effectiveness, I hate the idea that my capital will be underpowered. The absolute worst feeling is a series of finding more optimal locations. I start in a really crappy place. I move one square to a better one but that reveals an even better spot, etc.

Civ V is pretty shitty and boring, imo. 1UPT just breaks too many things, and the AI is terrible. On the other hand I love playing OCC, and that's never been easier than in Civ V.

I've mostly played Civ 1, 2 and SMAC, skipped over 3, and never really got into 4, even though I really really should...
Oh, and CivRev for the DS is a pretty neat little portable distillation of everything that makes Civ great!

I love resources. I love this game. More sheeps. MORE SHEEPS AND COWS.

Also there is something seriously wrong with me where I don't want to play a civ with an ugly leader. It shouldn't be important but damn I keep picking beautiful people like Catherine.

I love Civ. I used to go for culture until BNW, now I am a little more spread.

Curious about MS Civers. Who goes tall? Who goes wide? Besides the Venice player.

I am super excited for Beyond Earth.

But sadly, my personal laptop doesn't have a separate GPU, so it can't even run Civ V. This means I either have to play on my work computer (which is fine until I get a new job) or I don't get to play Civ anymore. SAD DAY. I'm going to build a desktop eventually, but haven't started yet.

I always think about booting up Civ5 then I get scared because it's such a massive game and I don't understand every mechanic at play.

Actually, for all its faults, I think Civ5 is the most accessible of all the Civ games. Well, except for Revolutions, of course :p

The tutorials are quite good, to be fair.

As for tall/wide - i almost always go tall - I've never successfully gone wide (except for domination victories where I just roflstomp all)

Start simple, scale up with progressive games. It's daunting but also the most rewarding gaming experience I've ever found.

Start on a low difficulty; the computerized advisors are actually quite well-written, and the Civilopedia is generally very thorough.

I assume tall is few cities, all the buildings and shit in those cities, while wide is tons of cities?

Going wide gives me a headache. When it gets to the point that one turn takes a minute.

Or longer I guess, I just happen to be playing 1 at this very second and a minute does feel like too long here.

I have BNW, I'm not very good, but I'd be willing to play with some people.
