It's because with the map generator civ has it makes Tradition way superior to Liberty, Honor, and Piety.
Like
Piety is not one of the main social policy trees you go down first. Maybe 2nd but definitely not first.
Honor is just lol bad
and then there's liberty which makes building things like Oxford (which you would normally save for late game), and National College just really hard to build and not really worth it mostly because you'll have so many cities that it costs so much production just to build one. Not to mention happiness issues but that gets solved if you settle smartly.
And then there's Tradition which allows you to not waste 7 or 8 turns building Monuments depending on what speed your on, and also has some built in Food and Happiness and Tradition was just ment to be used for Tall play.| here.GTKAS- Zachrulez

Honestly no matter what you want to do, Tradition is nearly always the best startup. Even if you plan on going wide and think "oh I should go liberty", even then tradition seems to be a faster start by giving you a strong starting core to then expand fromIn post 575, Alisae wrote:.SNIP.
Plus if you go liberty and then you don't get to settle a fuck ton of cities for any reason, you're boned.
I tend to go max tradition -> honor opener if I'm getting wrecked by barbarians (optional) -> cherry pick some policies from liberty while waiting for rationalism to be available -> max rationalism -> after doing that who cares you already won the game just pick whatever you want, and don't forget to pick order ideology because the revolution must live on- Elbirn

Upon fuhrer review (heheh) autocracy is actually an acceptable alternative and I've merely forgotten
I guess it's like
When I play, I want all the production and science, and order gives that to me, as well as several happiness boosting policies and gold cost reduction when purchasing buildings
Autocracy is all military all the time which is fun if that's what you're doing that game but I usually don't feel like killing everyone and would literally drag a game out waiting for my inevitable science/culture victory while happily playing Sim city, rather than being smart and getting the game over with by taking all the capitals
I never said I was good, just that I like civ.
I did have a great game as autocratic shoshone on a large earth map w/domination victory only, where I did honor like a madman- Alisae

Just get some stealth bombers or nukes and just take their capital as soon as you declare war
always a fun way to play civ.

Sometimes we decide that we like one of them and declare them switzerland.
One time I saw one of them was closing in on a diplomatic victory so I conquered all of his city state allies and then felt bad- Nero Cain

heathen conversion is pretty lulzOf all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

We'll see who else can play. And it's not like we'll finish a game in one sitting so mayhaps we can set up multiple nights.Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.
