If I craft a Ragnaros right now, you think I'd still get the free dust?

Yes. In fact, you could spend 3200 right now, craft a golden Rag, then get your dust back and either keep it for wild, or dissident and get a free 1600 dust.

Keep in mind, though, that you only get dust for ONE Sylv/Rag, and TWO of the non-legendaries.

So if you don't have the card at all, go ahead and craft it. You'll get your dust back when they get retried.
If you do already have the card, don't dust another (or the golden version) because it's a net loss.

The cards from the classic set that are getting put into the "Hall of Fame", so they won't be Standard legal anymore- Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros the Firelord, Power Overwhelming, Ice Lance, and Conceal. They'll be Wild only cards from here on out, but part of the deal is that if you own them, you'll be refunded their dust cost, and you'll get to keep the card; so, if you have a regular Sylvanas, you'll get 400 dust as if you'd disenchanted it, except that you keep the Sylvanas. But you only get the dust for up to as many cards as you could play in a deck, starting with the most expensive- so if you have a regular Sylvanas and a golden Sylvanas, you'll only get the dust for the golden, since you could only play 1 Sylvanas is a deck, and the golden one is worth more dust.

errr wait

So whats the incentive to craft them? If I craft Sylvanas I get 400 dust but at the cost of 1600 crafting

I was under the impression from Shadoweh's post thta if you craft them and they rotate out you get the full crafting dust back?

the incentive to craft them is you get them for free, basically

spend the dust to craft them now, get the dust back when they rotate out, keep the cards

The only "downside" to crafting them now, is you won't get the dust back until the expansion.

Right, I misstated. You get the 1600 dust back for Sylvanas, not 400. So you do get it for free, plus you get to keep the card. What I was meaning to say is that you can craft for 1600, then get your 1600 dust back, and either keep the card for wild, or disenchant it for a bonus 400 dust.

That is unfortunate. They were talking about making Wild a more relevant format, but Arena was one of the few places where Wild actually saw real action. And now they're changing that, so what's the deal with Wild now?

Well thus might be the nail in my HS coffin.

I play Arena to get away from Standard. Making it Standard takes that away from me.

Yeah I'm so sad the best most premium 4 drop in Arena is gone.

Oh wait.

it's not salt, it's a commentary of interesting draft mechanics.

When have you ever taken another 4 drop over a Piloted?

When have you ever taken MOST CARDS over a Piloted?

Almost never.

It's an absurd card and its removal opens up other 4 drops to shine in the meta. Especially with board clears being reduced.

I mean, sure, the meta will converge again at some point, but given that no new cards are being currently added, just subtracted, it's reasonable to say that the power level will drop, which is nice.

I agree with your conclusion but not the reason for it. If the old cards were weaker and you subtracted them new decks would be substantially more powerful. I think power levels more or less peaked at goblins vs mechs though. What you said would only be true for a constructed environment.

Power level drop is dumb. Standard is dumb. All the fun cards are gone. RIP Shredder. Also "interesting draft choices" are overrated. Give me 3 shredders over "interesting decisions" any day of the fucking week. "Interesting Decisions" don't fill the win column. Shredders do.
