There's 2 or 3 common types of warlock decks:

Zoo is a bunch of little dudes played early that can take you out by turn 4 or 5 if you don't deal with them. You need lots of dudes or good removal to win against it.

Handlock is a warlock that doesn't do anything (or only life taps) for the first few turns and then plays big dudes that are dependent on size of hand to be big. You want to anticipate the big dudes with good removal, and/or have early pressure to take him out before his dudes get too threatening.

Murloc Warloc is where you try not to cry, and then cry a lot.

Anyway, Pie wants me to post the mage arena deck I just got:

Spoiler: Witty Deck Title Here
Frostbolt
Bloodfen Raptor
Dire Wolf Alpha
Mad Bomber
River Crocolisk (x2)
Sorcerer's Apprentice (x2)
Youthful Brewmaster
Vaporize (x2)
Demolisher
Flesheating Ghoul
Harvest Golem
Questing Adventurer
Fireball (x2)
Polymorph (x3)
Water Elemental (x2)
Gurubashi Berserker
Silver Hand Knight
Stampeding Kodo
Stranglethorn Tiger
Venture Co. Mercenary (x2)
Flamestrike (x2)

anyone want to place bets on how far it goes? :P (For skill reference, I'm rank 12-13 and Pie is helping me and is rank 10)

ended up 6-3, had really bad draws vs. all the mage decks (had a bit of a hard time in the early game and every mage I faced was very aggro = not a good combination)

Spoiler: .
vs Rogue, Won
vs Mage, Lost
vs Mage, Lost
vs Pally, Won
vs Rogue, Won
vs Rogue, Won
vs Mage, Won
vs Priest, Won
vs Shaman, Lost

I got a butt-ton of dust, a decent chunk of gold, and a pack with a dust devil and my second Kodo in it, so I'm happy I guess. We could have done better if we weren't both so tired, but eh

Yeah. I've only just started doing arena again for that reason, and because I like constructed play slightly better. I played one right when we started, went like 3-3, and then didn't want to play again because I was worried about not getting my gold's worth out of the runs if I did badly. So I just bought packs with the gold for a while until I had two or three solid constructed decks to play around with, and now that I've got more experience with the game and understand all the cards a little better it's back to arena.

As for constructed, I've now got a decent budget aggro mage, midrange hunter, and a very silly priest deck that has literally made every rogue and pally I've played ragequit, but huddles in a corner and cries vs every brand of warlock. Kind of worth it to counter-troll the people playing miracle rogue in the casual queue, though. :P

yeah, my aggro mage deck doesn't use any secret-related cards.

Other good rares to craft: Holy Fire for priest, Gadgetzan Auctioneer (neutral)

omg aslfkjasl;fjk I just had the DREAM play for my shitty weird-ass druid deck (I don't have the proper cards for anything resembling the meta decks for druid so I just mashed several of them together in a weird patchwork-blob)

Turn one pass, his turn one he coins + voidwalker + flame imp, turn two innervate -> violet teacher, he plays an argent squire on his turn two, turn three kill the voidwalker with the violet teacher, cast wild growth (spawn a 1/1), claw to kill the flame imp (spawn a 1/1), innervate (spawn a 1/1), power of the wild to give everything +1/+1 (and spawn a 1/1, which triggers first)

soooooooooooooo yeah, this happened by turn 3

Image

...next turn I played an azure drake and he conceded <_<

This is more or less the same thing I ended up doing. I'm really mad at myself though because I'd gotten myself into a situation on like the third attempt where I was guaranteed to win eventually, play kor'kron elite, earthen ring farseer, and hero power every turn (heal 5, take 5 from five 1/x and the other two on board were nerubian eggs) ... buuuuuuuuuuuut I got impatient and dumped my hand, she suicided dudes into my dudes and then played actual threats, and I lost. Then I had terrible, terrible RNG luck for the next 3 hours until I managed to get her to fill her board with all 1/x dudes again.

If I was going to attempt it again I think I'd rather try freeze mage since my way of winning was incredibly tedious, but sadly I don't have all the cards for it.

I have seen the most ridiculous warlock decks lately.

One guy started out seeming to be typical zoo, and then just as I was getting board control and starting to beat his face in suddenly played big dudes, a Ragnaros, and a faceless targeting Ragnaros.

Another did T1 coin -> nerubian egg, T2 nerubian egg, T3 void terror in between the nerubian eggs. 2 4/4s and a 3/7 on turn three, probably should have conceded right then.

I don't think I've used any of the new cards yet except in arena, with the sole exception of the time I tried out webspinners and quickly decided they didn't improve my hunter deck. I think I just want to see where the meta goes before I toy with my decks too much, and since it's in such a flux right now I haven't bothered. It doesn't seem like anyone's playing anything new besides eggs, loatheb, creepers, and the very occasional sludge belcher.

On another note, I wonder what Blizzard is going to do to ward off power creep. As they make more and more cards, they'll run into the issue of newer cards potentially completely outclassing older ones eventually. Higher mana cost helps alleviate a lot of that, but sludge belcher is a better taz, maexxna is a bulkier emperor cobra... they can't make every card original so it's bound to happen at least a little bit.

aww, lucky!

I opened a golden knife juggler and a golden harvest golem in the same pack today, so I guess that's cool. And yesterday I pulled a legendary I already had (Baron Geddon) which magically became a doomhammer. :)

just fyi, you can highlight a card with your mouse before you flip the cards and it will glow the color of the rarity (nothing for commons, blue for rares, purple for epics, orange-ish yellow for legendary).

I like flipping the rare+ cards last so I always check them first.

I have Rag (crafted), Baron Geddon, Onyxia, Malygos (lol), Alexstrasza, King Krush (double lol), aaaand I think that's it.

If it weren't for Grommash, and Gorehowl, and several other cards, I could almost play control warrior.

Onyxia is cute in ramp druid but not really that good. Sometimes it works and is hilarious but not usually.

my solution to that has been to only play the required amount of games to not lose out on quest gold, and wait for meta that annoys me to blow over.

Or play casual.
