Has anybody played this game? I bought it on a Steam Sale whim not expecting too much, but wow. The game rather flaunts how self-aware it is and I find that in itself kind of brilliant. But I have mixed feelings because of points where it tries a bit too hard to be profound/groundbreaking to the point of pretension.
Don't really want to spoil everything, but I thought it's the type of game many scummers might find interesting to discuss.
Also, I really like the closet ending. That was my favourite ending.
"It hurts to have control over anything. I'd rather be a leaf in the wind."
Call me Lily instead. Avatar is Bellossom from Pokemon! drawn by Ether.
Espeonage (08:39) - lily is happy = everything is good with the world
Yes, I enjoyed it a great deal. For me, it never quite reached that point of pretension (mostly because I think it was so completely original and unlike anything I had played that I was willing to allow it to be a little more artsy than substantial at times), but I can see how you would have that opinion. My personal favorite part was the secret code party or whatever in the monitor room. I really got a kick out of that, in part because I found it myself.
But it's fantastic in that "it's an experience" sort of way. I was really worried that the jokes would fall flat, but I never seemed to get tired of finding new things. If you can get me to literally laugh out loud, then you're doing good.
I will say that I was a bit disappointed with the amount of content, but I think I still got enough entertainment value out of it.
It's a good thing we don't have a video game topic on this very page to discuss video games so we don't have to make individual topics for each little thing we play

I can get someone to move the LoL thread into the video game thread if you want.

LoL/DotA 2/etc. are all constantly updated and therefore have a reason to have their own thread. There is no reason for The Stanley Parable considering that we have talked about it in that thread.
That being said, I am waiting for a lower price point, due to the amount of content that I have heard is in the game, before I purchase it.

It's a good thing we have Reckoner on the forums to make sure everyone knows there's a video game topic.

You go right ahead, ani.
You want to know what thread got pushed into the next page? Another video game thread! One that wasn't used for over a month at that! It's kind of like if you leave threads to die, they hit the second page. Cool, huh?
It's weird huh. I'm yet to see the swamping of video game threads out of the main one, so leave it alone. It's a good game that has the potential to spawn a discussion that's good for the video game industry. Drowning it out in this poisonous crap is bad.

Someone's missing this line:
It's a good game that has the potential to spawn a discussion that's good for the video game industry.
"Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare
So if it's good in your opinion, it's okay to create a thread about it? Because in your head, somehow creating threads to discuss games ON MAFIASCUM is good for the video game industry
I love that you think creating a thread about a "game" (since The Stanley Parable hardly even qualifies as an actual game) on mafia scum dot net will be 'good for the video game industry'

what the fuck does that even mean
I'll agree that I probably should be using airquotes, but tl;dr lazy. That said, I do think it has the potential - any points discussed here can be brought up again in an e-mail to game devs or something. Creating video games that more people likes would net them more money - I'm sure they'd be interested.

If you think it barely qualifies as a game, why do you feel so strongly about it going in the video game thread? Quit trolling.
My favorite is the broom closet ending.
Seriously though, it is an amazing game, one of the first games to make me genuinely laugh in a very long time. (I also felt a bit sad for the narrator at some points.)
What's really great is the fact that the demo is completely different, and the trailers themselves are immensely entertaining and even a bit thought provoking. (The jab at let's plays and those who view them was especially done well)
I really hope more comes from the creator in the future.
