It had Thrill Digger!

:D ... ... :shifty:

(it also had Silent Realms, which were fun while they lasted)

I guess yeah if the motion controls aren't great Skyward Sword isn't gonna be fun. But when do they work it's great and the game seemed pretty vibrant and wonderful

The dowsing was completely unnecessary IIRC.

Also, I think that Skyward Sword's motion controls are getting slighted; I didn't have a problem with them once I adjusted to them. Twilight Princess, on the other hand, was basically Flail To Win.

also while we're complaining about Twilight Princess I think the mandatory fishing segments were much worse than SS's dowsing

---

I mean, on paper Skyward Sword should have been great.
Spoiler: why
*flight
*reasonably good motion controls for all sorts of puzzles
*Groose
*Ghirahim
*localized time travel
*Silent Realms
*iridescent navi character
*Beetle
*Ancient Cistern's design
*a PIRATE SHIP (complete with undead mecha-captain)
*Sky Temple or whatever it's called's design
*Metal Gear Magma aka getting your stuff back at the volcano
*The Horde
*Demise
*omg overarching Zelda plot
...and yet the actual game turned out to be flashes of brilliance amid hours of backtracking, repetition, and some of the most dull environments I can think of offhand.

Erm... cant remember any mandatory fishing segments in Twilight Princess... if there was, there was certainly a lot less of them than the dowsing.

In regards to the controls, I'll simply disagree in regards to Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword it was more a case of "flail because the wii-mote doesn't recognise your movements"
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.

One as a tutorial at the beginning of the game, one at the waterfall to get into the snow area.

The reason I hated it was precisely because it was the only place where the motion controls actually mattered.
