I mean if I hadn't spent nearly 20 years of my life so far making friends because I bought the thing I might agree that that's bad, but instead it's undeniably true that the series has been a gateway into finding people you can emotionally bond with, and I don't think capitalizing on that fact is bad. lots of people pay to join fraternities or take improv classes or play games because they want to be a part of a social group that bonds over a common interest, and I don't think that desire is bad, and I don't think it's bad for the groups that organize those things to acknowledge that that's a benefit.

anyway the designs for new Pokemon species has only improved over time and gen 1 had some of the laziest ones of all (pile of goo! bigger pile of goo! pink pile of goo! pokeball! upside down pokeball! just some eggs!) and even if it had some of the most beloved and elegant designs as well, the general sentiment that they've gotten worse over time is just silly.
My fave Pokemon starter is still Totodile his got so much personality.

while obsessed with a particular game, they'd only play with others who had it
in related news, it looks like the 2ds is getting discounted soon

Doesn't the 2ds play all the 3ds games? Unless your talking about original ds.

One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. Nothing super groundbreaking, although data miners managed to find all of the new Gen7 pokemon in S&M if anyone is interested in looking it up. You do get to port Ash-Greninja to S&M once you've completed the main part of the demo, though!
