Game 1 was won, game 2 should have been won but missed a vital Precipice Blades, game 3 she played better.

That was last circuit alas, I just missed that bar but I'm off to a brilliant start this year round. Thanks!

I prefer to obtain my teams legitimately and that takes about 2-4 hours per Pokemon if starting from absolute scratch, but once you've got some breeded mons you can swiftly get more in like 30 mins. This tournament I didn't have a lot of time prior to it however, so I had somebody gen my team for me.

4 hours to level 100? how

If you have rare candies you really only need to get to level 89. Then have the +9 level meal, 2 rare candies, done.

But yeah 4 hours seems easy enough, including potential breeding time.

If you enjoy being in the moral grey zone the Pelago Glitch on Sun/Moon saves a lot of time.

The EUIC had more players than it has in a long time with European attendance being at an all-time high right now. I would say the current format is as popular as ever but not the current games.

That being said, with the new budget switch coming out along with the new games there's a lot of potential to see huge growth. The Pokemon company just needs to play their cards right after stuff like Pokemon Go and Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu to draw new players. This would also see growth in the competitive scene if tournament entree fees dropped.

So although this is kind of embarrassing, I'm in need of others' help if I want to make it to the World Championships this year.

As some of you may know from either the Speakeasy or generally having talked with me the last 3 years were not the best for me to say the very least. I've had to dedicate a lot of my time to just straightening my life back out and getting back into school after having missed just under a year of it. Thankfully, things are once more headed in a direction I'm happy with and I'm mentally and physically in a much better position now. Sadly these circumstances have gotten in the way of other things however, one of them being my ability to realise this dream of mine to attend the World Championships. Due to numerous factors I'm completely short of funds right now to attend the event or do most things. Until recently I had no time to work a side-job as a high-school student as I wasn't mentally in a good spot and I was pouring my efforts into not failing my classes and being moved down a level so I could still attempt to study medicine in the future. A mixture of medical bills stemming from my insurance company being an ass and not receiving aid from my parents also nuked what little savings I did have. So far I've only been able to attend 2 major events this year, both were done with a budget under 80 euros. This being Frankfurt and Berlin.

This game and event both mean a lot to me. I've met wonderful people through this game and would love to meet some I've talked with and gotten to know online at Worlds. I would love to meet those I already have met again. I would love to travel outside of Europe for the first time in my life. And I would love to prove to myself I can realise my aspirations, despite how bleak I once thought things were in the past. I can't do this alone right now however.

Gofundme

I've setup a gofundme page I'll be sharing with the Pokémon community too. It's a long shot, but it's the only one I have right now. You can find it here:

If you've got anything to spare and want to help me out feel free to have a look. Any help would be invaluable to me.

That's all, I'll see how this goes. If I do manage to raise the funds my entire trip and time there will be documented with photos for all to follow.

Thanks so much!

I seem to have a robust interest in figuring out what would be the most systematic way to study a game like this one - specifically to find a battle strategy for the video games that's competitive against real people

One idea I had was iterations of bots that execute different battle strategies - defined with some explicit decision tree - that maybe I test at a place like Showdown. While this seems a decent approach for *testing* strategies, it seems a poor approach for strategy discovery, limiting me to just what I can imagine. Ideally I could pursue some kind of analytic approach, but it's tough to consider where one might start on that. Maybe I'm just not ready yet. Another possibility is consulting with regular players and experts and so on. But that defeats the point, and locks strategy to conventional wisdom, though requiring enough detail to support bot implementation and getting quantitative feedback through bot performance could be a decent corrective.

There's a way cognitive scientists come up with computational models of decision processes and maybe if I just get around to finding out how they do that, I'll have a better idea of what can be done here.

Specifically, what's your goal with this project? to build an bot that beats people? Build a bot that devises its own strategy and tactics and wins at it? Or for yourself to develop the best possible strategy against the metagame? Or?

There's ways to do all the above, but they differ i think

Ideally it's the optimal strategy that humans can understand/apply, and that bots can test. Definitely not interested in a black box AI, but rather a verifiable model of high-quality play.

There's an image somewhere of a really simple decision tree that the pokemon blue battle AIs followed when you encountered them. I want a process for finding that given relevant facts about the metagame, except the decision tree is actually effective.

In the pokemon world, legindaries/mythical pokemoncare super rare and no trainer has them.

How would the meta change with no legendaries/mythical pokemon?

Gen 1 ou would be mostly unchanged. Zapdos could be replaced with Joltion, Articuno with Lapras and multrase with Charazard.

Uber tier wouldnt exist.
