is a free platformer that relies on you cooperating with the mechanics of the game in real life.

You Have to Burn the Rope

is another free, quick game that is very worth playing.

Eversion

is a fun, cute game, except it's also another thing entirely; I recommend going in with as little info as possible. there's also a non-free version on Steam with better graphics and audio.

is a game by Terry Cavanagh and it's

so good

Cave Story

is basically one of the first indie success stories, and it's incredibly difficult. it's also on Steam, or you can get it on Wii/Wii U/DSi/3DS digitally. (there's also a physical release for the 3DS, but it's a completely different version of the game and is almost impossible to track down for very cheap.)

Knytt Stories a cute platformer/loose metroidvania style game that a bunch of people have made levels for so you can play a ton of different levels depending on what u wanna try. Most of the official levels are very soothing tbh.

I own Ori and it's really fun but I've heard it gets impossible later on so I'm scared.
Trine 1 and 2 are great platformers, haven't played the third.

RAYMAN LEGENDS

I love Dustforce but it's balls hard.
Environmental Station Alpha is probably my favorite metroidvania on a gameplay level.
Freedom Planet is probably better than any of the classic sonic games tbh.
Guacamelee! is a rad metroidvania with a lot of platforming and a pretty sweet combat system too.
Knytt Underground is the best Knytt.
Mark of the Ninja is technically a stealth game but it's got a lot of platforming and it's pretty enjoyable.
And yeah Ori is fantastic.
Also Rayman Legends is swag. They need to make another already. Rayman Origins is awesome too.

Teslagrad. I saw this game on a stream and fell in love. The art is beautiful, and I'm a sucker for the visual storytelling - absolutely no dialogue. Plus some cool mechanics playing around with the idea of magnets attracting and repelling. Seriously, I don't get why when I talk about this game to people no one else has heard of it.

This is obviously super old-school, but the three SNES Donkey Kong Country games are three of the best platformers ever made, and doing a max% completion on them is completely worth it if you love platforming and haven't done so already! (Use the SNES emulator of your choice, there's a bunch out there and no one agrees on which are best).

Teslagrad was really neat, but I didn't end up finishing it because it got too tricky for me, at the

Giant Eye boss

. I did play that far in one sitting though, so maybe if I went back I could do it.

i played teslagrad a while back and i remember it being pretty solid though not mindblowingly good or anything, just pretty decent

it's actually deserving of the title. rayman legends is like someone spent four years playing and replaying and studying the greatest platformers of all time until they had an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre, then picked only the best parts and made the greatest, most joyful gaming experience ever

Any of Matt Thorson's games are exceptional. An Untitled Story is the best metroidvania bar none, Jumper is a very good precision platforming series, Moneyseize is Kirby done right, Give Up Robot is more precision platforming genius. He just knows the genre really well.
