You can hatch exclusives from other regions... if the egg was obtained IN that other region. Eggs are "determined" upon acquiring them, not upon hatching.

Yeah, It's a pain in the ass for me too since there's only one Pokestop that's even close to being within walking distance. However, I will definitely say this game has encouraged me to take walks, explore new areas, go to parks and stuff, and get more exercise than I had been before (kinda sad that it took a Pokemon game to make me get out more, but I'm trying to be optimistic about it lol).
I also really wish they'd bring back/fix the 3-step tracker.

One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
I got back into it when the double XP bonuses existed at the end of November. Possibly in order to hunt for the Ditto. (i'm not playing enough to have actually found one yet though)
Now I'm just trying to keep my streaks going, and getting the local gym on a daily basis, which is generally just what we walk past with the dogs on their walk.
It'd be nice if I could get consistent access to reaching the pokestop down the road via wi-fi again though.

I found out by discovering there was an Espeon sitting in my local gym.
I then caught a Cyndaquil and can be considered happy for now.
Well except if I'm not mistaking them for later generations (I did with some I caught) there's still shuckle, stantler and someone I forgot (stingray guy) that have appeared near me but I didn't get to
