the thing I find so frustrating is they clearly had no plan b. they planned for a certain number of people, the number trying to play is way higher than that, and its been like 2 days now and they're clearly just like welp....

Companies always anticipate their servers going down during launch. There's a certain portion of the player base they expect to flake from the game within a week or two regardless, so they don't invest in massive servers just to accommodate for a handful of post-launch days.

No, but most games rent server space from companies like Amazon that rent out their servers when not using them. You anticipate a huge launch, you temporarily rent out some extra servers, players flake out after launch, you ramp down. The options are available, they chose not to bother.

I'm moving to silicon valley in a week and a half. I'm hoping it has different pokemon than suburban Boston. It'd be cute if they put electric types there or something.

I think one of the things I'm most concerned with atm is how playable the gym scene will be if you're not *the strongest*. The five gyms near me that i can see on the map from my house have had a lot of turnover though, which is a good thing.

Transfer all of them except one to get candies and evolve that one into a ratticate. Then use the rest of the candies to make it strong af.

[pedit] yeah, you get one candy per Poke you transfer. even evolved ones only give one candy. and obv 3 for catching. I have 3 Pidgeot and 4 Raticate from the sheer amount of pre-evos I've gotten. At least they're good basic gym fodder for already established gyms.

oh and I don't think it matters if you level up before evolving, because I think the white bar that denotes your CP still stays in that position after evolving (so basically just: the higher initial CP, the less Stardust you spend), but I'm not 100% sure how this works.

I found two at Inman Square in Cambridge.

I think the reason people evolve first is to see the moveset of the pokemon before they decide if they want to waste more candies on it

I think this game as a concept is pretty cool, at least for the time being, but I don't know enough to make any predictions about its longevity.

Although it doesn't really change my lifestyle because I walk and run pretty frequently, I can see this making getting around on foot more enjoyable for a lot of people. Not only that, but I've been to parks near my area and had pretty great conversations and exchanges with a few different strangers about the game.

I'm having lots of fun.
