I wonder if Nintendo has that patented and on lock, because it's so much so the way of the future, I think

I don't think you can patent something that broad.

I've never really cared much for portable gaming so portability features don't really resonate with me.

I don't think nintedo pantened and locked portablity, I just think that they has the most experience with it and so are more likely to create success with it, compared with very other portable console out there which nearly all flopped in some manner

Well, if the concept of uploading information to the internet can be patented and the concept of using a mouse pointer can be patented, I don't see why built in portability in a console can't be.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

That's why I brought up the idea though. Once the technology is there to put all that power in a portable form, it won't be very easy for Microsoft, Sony, and other companies to do it if Nintendo has the docking system and the controller style on lock.

But that's just Nintendo's thing, I guess -- finding ways to improve that aren't just better graphics and more computational power.

In the moment, sure, but it's just like the stuff where you compare USB drives, both in cost and size. It's just all about figuring out the technology.

Like I'm personally still kind of wowed at the capabilities of the Switch given how small it is, and that all houses a screen.

You can patent the technology that makes your system portable, but I don't think you can patent portability full stop. If you create portability in a system and do it different enough from the way Nintendo went about it, it's fine.

I definitely agree.

I can't think of a way to do it pretty differently, but that doesn't mean it's out there!

You could probably build something that looks pretty similar but gets there with completely different technology.

I have the Wii U version and it's alright fun I guess? It'd probably be best with someone to play with though as the single player has little lasting value and gets quite repetitive.

Also I got a Switch and it's really really good, Mario Odyssey is great fun and I'm getting through it very quickly. A little too quickly - I'm getting worryingly close to 100%ing the game and it's a shame because I want it to last. Not a problem with the game though, it's very long lasting, I'm just spending lots of my free time on it.

I'd like to but also have Xenoblade Chronicles X and have barely started it in like a year (maybe two?) of having it so I think I should probably make sure I enjoy that sort of game by playing X before going ahead and buying it

Xenoblade Chronicles is a much better game in terms of the story it tells. Xenoblade Chronicles X is a much better game in terms of the actual gameplay.

Also someone feel free to grab my attention when they have a good switch bundle out that has much more storage space than 32gb. The SD storage requirement is my biggest barrier to buying the system. Why the thing doesn't allow an external hard drive or even a USB flash drive is beyond me.

This.

XC plot and character development were way better, but I do like the overall gameplay experience XCX provided.
