D&D: Team Strahd

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)
.
Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

I don't know how this works played online, but I know the other group does REAL TIME on some Sundays.
Whatever, the thread's for planning purposes so this is where we sort things out.

I will say that I'm about to start DMing for another group, and I'm playing in my main group, so I don't think I'll have the time to DM here as well. The style of play will be a big factor too. If we're doing forum style, relatively slow paced, I can definetely play. If we're going for live, I'll be pretty stretched for when I could actually do it. I do have every Saturday off though.

Real time is pretty self explanatory, but what I've seen from other forums playing is generally something like

-Deciding on time limits for actions, could be a day, two days, 12 hours, etc. depending on the group.
-Posting character sheets somewhere for easy reference for all, especially DM
-DM presents the scenario, we all say what we're going to do within that time limit, DM resolves them
-Combat is done normally, just text based.

Original Roll String: 1d20+5
1 20-Sided Dice: (9)+5 = 14

Does that hit?

If so,
Original Roll String: 1d10
1 10-Sided Dice: (6) = 6
fire damage!

I have a good deal of experience with play-by-post over at myth-weavers.com.

I haven't played D&D in years. The last thing I remember was having my arm bludgeoned off with a mace in some sort of sacrifice thing because we pissed some bad guy off.

I think the most crucial item probably figuring out who can run the game. Because we apparently need a mod (?) and there are online sources for running the game through. I mean, I have an IMGUR account so we can always host images there in albums. I do have another source for me.

I have zero experience running a D&D game for others but suppose that's something I could look into here if we needed someone. I imagine I'd need the sourcebook but its likely that my local game shop has a copy. I can find out Tuesday when I'm planning on going in for game night. I ran a Dead of Winter game off-site and that was a blast though.

THINGS WE NEED:
+Mod
+Site to run this in
+Image Host
+Players

Play-by-post seems solid. Unless we all happen to have a couple hours and can do something in real time, PBP sounds like the way to go.

We could either find another site to run it in, or I'm sure we could make a thread here somewhere (Mishmash, or arcade, something). Imgur seems fine for images, or we could just put them directly into the forum under spoiler tags. If it's going to be play by post then I'm definitely in. But yes, biggest thing is a mod.

The other group uses ARCADE, so I think here's fine.
IMGUR works; there are plenty of other options as well.

Hrm. If anyone else has mod experience, that'd be swell.
I'll go do some digging on my own though. I know CURSE OF STRAHD is a pretty set up adventure so maybe I'll just buckle and run it myself.

Is there a good player number for the game? Like X is too many or something?

I have mostly experience with live groups, and I find 4-5 is the sweet spot. 3 is doable, but a little boring, and 6 is doable but a little hectic, but more than that gets too crazy and hard to divide time fairly and in an enjoyable way.

There are other published adventures as well, like Tyranny of Dragons: Hoard of The Dragon Queen, Elemental Evil: Princes of the Apocolypse, and Rage of Demons: Out of the Abyss.

I know but we just did STRAHD so now we can REALLY do STRAHD.
Or something. We have time to figure out what we can do, etc.

You're basically a party of mice out to protect mice-dom from weasels and ferrets and frogs and newts and WOLVES.
Basically a nice RPG in D&D-esque style but simplified and everything's from the POV of mice.
So you can fight a wolf, for example, but you need A LOT OF MICE. :P

I could also be swayed to do this.

So, like, Redwall RPG.

Come to think of it, a Redwall RPG would be amazing.
