But your version is 100% pacifist from what I’ve gathered so yah, barbs get to be an issue at higher levels

I have noticed a bug in the new update where barbs can spawn nonstop in the same spot

It can be a good idea to position units scattered about cuz camps cant spawn on hexes that any player has visibility of? So like if you notice it's the same location repeatedly just tell a warrior to take a nap there

I don't think that's a bug so much as players sometimes noticing the underlying mechanics which are that Barb camps can't spawn except where players (including AI players and CSes) don't have vision, etc. like you said - your "workaround" is probably effective tbh but yeah, I do think that Maru probably just doesn't play with the normal amount of Barbs so plz keep that in mind

is one level fo difficulty lower than prince really *that* much difference in barbarians? I'm literally spending one whole city's production (my highest prod city at that), continuously spitting out troops. I'm even into a gold negative per a turn now. This is insane. And I feel like I'm just now *barely* catching up with keeping the barbarians out from between two of my cities even, let alone out of my general civilization's area surrounded by natural borders

yes, Prince is the "normal" mode and the modes directly above and below are rather large degrees of difficulty harder/easier

so moving to Prince and then to King is going be a MUCH bigger difference than moving from Settler -> Warlord or whatever
the next big jump is Emperor -> Deity, IIRC

This is fine. This happens from time to time on anything not-Settler difficulty. Just to prepare you...

Also, tbh I'm not trying to hand-wave the fact that sometimes you just get back luck with Barbs - it happens

that's when you restart in SP :giggle:

ive not found an issue with barbs
there seems to be a lot of them but they dont do much most of the time?
i usually just stick a unit in the city (like a slinger) and if they walk into range shoot at them
if they arent attacking i ignore them
i also take the +5 attack vs barb card at the start

edit: altho it occurs to me now i only have the base game, maybe its diff if you got all the dlc

I did not check last night or this morning, if it moved since 5PM EST yesterday to me, it will be done when I get to my computer tonight.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

I'm at work, can anyone check whose turn it is? If you hover over it a tooltip should pop up saying whose turn. It shouldn't be me because I launch this game like twice a day for other cloud games but at this point I'm paranoid enough to say idk maybe it didnt save my last turn properly or something and I still dont have a notification about it

I just saw I can't access cloud games right now, might be an issue on the technical end on my part, trying to see if I can fix now.

ADVANCED LEVEL CIV DISCUSSION

Is it worth building a harbor and a commercial hub in the same city? I've always done it because even though you only get one trade route out of it, theres a good adjacency bonus for it. City center next to river/harbor adjacent to 2 sea resources/commercial hub adjacent to river/all in a triangle = idk how much gold off the top of my head actually but it's like 10+. Not to mention great people points. And now that I think about it, awesome shipyard production yields.

But yeah, when district costs scale with each one you've built, is it not more worth it to build harbors and commercial hubs in separate cities to maximize number of trade routes? I often find myself struggling to hit a decent number of available trade routes and I feel my gameplay suffers from that.

Depends on what you need, as always, IMO. If your trade routes suffer because you're prioritizing other things, stick to one - I'd prefer Harbor, if you have a choice, but that's probably personal pref since Merchants and Admirals often have similar retires. On a more naval map, go more Harbors. Mausoleum is really REALLY nice if you've got the Harbers in that scenario, and the AI never seems to rush it. You can toss up some incredible naval units if you combine (for instance) double-"fleet/armada" Admirals with double-"free promo" Admirals.

if you need the coin i'd say so
a lot of the time i run less traders than available routes and thats something i should probably work on
international traders are the most valuable ones so i tend to go for those but they die so easy and replacing them is a pain

--

picked up my first win on emperor last night after some failed attempts, culture win with jadwiga
feels like im moving up. all my wins have been science or culture tho, they feel much easier than the others
trying the military route bores me with moving units all the time and i get endgamed with science before i can wipe the board
the ai always goes so hard on religion idk how to win with it, i wanna try get the hang of it and see if it compares to culture/science
score is irrelevant, the game never lasts that long

i mean im a novice so i could be entirely wrong
it feels that way to me? they give a lot of gold and some bonus sci/culture
are the small amounts of food/production from domestic routes actually worth?
