- I usually make sure my mons are levels 16-18 at this point. Fennekin evolves at 16, and Hoothoot evolves at 20 (while Hoothoot might not be as useful, Noctowl has base 96 SpD and could probably be used as deathfodder if it can't do anything in battle). Also at 18 Grimer gets Mud Bomb.

Ah, so apparently I need to feel like I'm "overleveling", unlike other pokemon games. I'm used to it being totally fine to be at approximately the same level as a gym leader's team.

you can't overlevel, the game gives you a level cap and if you go over the level cap your pokemon starts to disobey you. This is why common candy is an item. This was demonstrated in a cutscene earlier after you got your starter.
The level cap is fine because its really well paced with the game itself.
I actually think you're really underleveled with everything being at 15, atleast for Julia. And even if you beat Julia with everything at 15, the level cap increases and you'll find out that now you're way MORE behind then you would be if you took the time to level up your mons to like 18 or something pre-julia
Like, you want your mons to be levels 18+ after Julia.

Her pokemon go from levels 12-15. Everything above 15 is what I would normally consider "overleveled". This is clearly wrong for this game and I need to adjust my POV.

tbh I either use Alice, Lucia, or Decibel in my runs (I've played through this game like 5 times)

immediately swept by Julia. Because as far as I can tell, there's nothing typed to slow down Electric types in the early game.

2 things helped me:

1. Linoone gets a move called "Mud Sport" that turns off electric field things. Suddenly Julia's shit didn't hurt nearly so much.
2. Bibarel gets Hyper Fang at like level 20? which one shots everything.

My group was:
- IvySaur
- Butterfree
- Linoone
- Bibarel
- Noibat (stupid Noibat)
- Grimer

They were all level 22-23. This save has them at 19-21.

My save is missing:
- Finishing leveling up Bidoof into another Bibarel to trade to that guy (this save has him as 11)
- Going to the 2nd zone
- Clearing the sewers? Tunnels? that lead to that 3rd area and catching everything there. I took this area slow and explored everything, including finding an egg.
- A couple mini-quests, like the breeders one. I also discovered headbutting trees from dialog with someone in the new zone.


I appreciate the offer but I'm afraid of this happening again. :/

Yeah dude, offer still stands, give me a save and I'll try to restore it to the best I can, because something like this is really unusual and shouldn't happen.
For the future, if you save frequently and have backups enabled (which I think its enabled by default), then if this DOES happen again, it should minimize the damage.

But I understand that having that feeling.

Sorry that shit happened to ya, that sounds like it sucks. If that happened to me while I was trying to complete the dex

there are rewards for completing the dex which means basically every mon in the game currently since that doesn't include legends and most ultra beasts

then I would not be happy and probably just be like "welp, fuck this" as well.
