I'm going Focused Conjurer, feats are SF/GSF/Heighten/Sculpt/MMSF. PrCs are Wiz5/PA2/FS4. Skills are yet to be determined, depends what everyone else does.

Random clarifications and nerfs:
Spoiler: Nerfs
Archon familiars can only have one of each SLA active at a time. So no spamming aid on everyone. MCvE is indeed a magic circle which affects not just themselves.

Spoiler: Bans
Knock-down and other feats on the d20srd page labeled "Divine abilities and feats" are illegal 3.0. (Though most have 3.5 versions in other books)
Dungeonscape ACFs are illegal.
Raptorans are illegal.
Libris Mortis is illegal.
Metamagic Item infusion is illegal.
Prayer beads are banned.

Spoiler: Clarifications
Barbarian's "Powerful Grip" ability only applies during rage.
Metamagic Spell Trigger can only use one metamagic feat at a time.
The interpretation of persist spell's "fixed range" being used is "pretty much just personal things" (In particular, X+Y/level is NOT legal)
Sun School's teleport "adjacent to a foe" means "within melee range"

The only possibly OP ones (the only ones worth using) are Construct Essence, Construct Essence Lesser, and Unseen Crafter.
The former two are buffs which only work on warforged, the latter allows you to craft while adventuring.

Edit: Unseen Crafter functions like Unseen Servant, which disappears if you go out of range. So craft while sleeping, but not adventuring.

Continual Flame (L2) - Counters all darkness spells of level below 5 for no action and also no spell slot. Note that this includes Assassin's Darkness, which is terrifying if we don't have a counter to it.
Discern Shapechanger (L3) - Counters shapehsifter plots, imagine if we'd had it last campaign
Tongues (L3) (Counters not knowing their language) (I can cast this spontaneously if I learn it, knowing language hopefully shouldn't be so immediate that they can't wait 1 standard action, Comprehend Languages (L1) could also be used instead in many situations and is probably better other than for making deals with random elementals)

Divination spells to be used before going to sleep:
Locate Object (L2)
Scrying (L4) (Yes, everyone else can also cast this, but I can cast it spontaneously, so if I have any L4s left before sleep I can scry anyone we want to find, also if an NPC goes missing and we need to find them but didn't know that before prepping spells)
Enduring Scrutiny (L3) (Allows for instantaneous but low bandwidth communication between party members over long distances, can be cast before sleeping so as not to use a spell slot)
Detect Scrying (L4) (Also fits into the above category about countering scrying)

Divination Spells for just in case:
Instant Search (L1)
Detect Thoughts (L2)
Arcane Eye (L4) (Okay this one isn't strictly necessary and can in most cases be covered by clairvoyance)

Divination Spells which could end up useful, given that I can cast it spontaneously it's better to learn it:
Spymaster's Coin (L2) (This has many uses, not all of which are for spying on people. In general if we can get a tiny object somewhere we want to see, it's a spell level cheaper than Clairvoyance and also gives sound)

RC, how opposed would Cynbel be to the following plan?
Step 1: Cynbel summons some normal natural animal using SNA.
Step 2: Will polymorphs said animal into an unnatural abomination.
Step 3: Said unnatural abomination wrecks our enemies.

I'm not sure it would be worth it (In fact, at the moment I think it probably isn't. Polymorph can increase effectiveness but not by enough to justify the additional L4 spell slot it would take), but if it is would Cynbel agree to having his nature friends transformed into unearthly beasts?


Gif, how would Zenith feel if I temporarily forcibly prevented an evil being from doing evil while simultaneously putting its power towards keeping me alive while I pursued a righteous cause? More specifically, if I bound an evil mount and rode it around. Zenith isn't working with an evildoer, Zenith isn't doing anything evil, my mount isn't doing anything evil, they just happen to be kind of near each other without Zenith murdering it. (And Zenith could murder it. Easily)

Step 1: Bind a succubus.
Step 2: Tell the succubus to go seduce the ravagers, kill them, and find their leader and bring them to us. Use a combination of bribes/threats, this should be pretty easy to convince her to do, especially if we offer her the ravagers' gear. (Yes, each individual isn't that rich, but they're not going to be capable of the DC21/22 will saves the succubus is throwing around, it's easy money. Even if she does get caught, greater teleport out, change form, try again)

Summary of councilmembers:
Rakesh-Warriors: Warrior person, wants military leader. Probably best swayed to our side by taking out the ravagers with brute force.
Mullihan-Farmers: Wants democracy. Probably not very swayable.
Wayne-Miners: Is good with anything provided casinos become allowed in town square. Simplest to bribe.
Khazif-Merchants: Proposed anarchy but could probably swayed to anyone provided they were pro-merchant with rules and shit
Mizra-???: Seems to support Midri, intentions unknown, very very evil.

My opinions:
Anarchy would be an awful idea.
Democracy is too risky, especially given RASA. Also, even if we have democracy, then there's the question of whom to elect. If we're controlling things, less risky to just make them the leader in the first place.
Military leader/martial law would be annoying, and it would be preferable to avoid that.
Midri seems like she'd be an okay leader, and also we could control her. We need to take out Mizra, but she's the final boss so we can take her out once Midri rules.

Now that it's a new day and we have TPK immunity back let's go to the forest and see what's up.

Time for lists of how sketchy people are!

Given how blatantly sketchy everyone this campaign is, I'll just list the people who have something vaguely not sketchy about them.
Midri: Seems like an idiot. Yes, the possibility exists that actually she's the one true evil, but it seems unlikely. Not trustworthy due to the aforementioned idiocy.
Lance: Seems like a legit trustworthy person. Not too much information exists about her, so she might still be evil, but given how everyone else is actively as sketchy as possible she comes out of it relatively trustworthy. Second most trustworthy person in the game.
Rakesh: Has suffered as a result of the Ravager's existence, thus is probably not linked to them. Appears to be a relatively simple person not capable of complex WIFOM. Yes, the possibility exists that ACTUALLY HE IS THE SAND WITCH, but it seems relatively unlikely. Most trustworthy person in the game.
Wayne: Not actively connected to the cult. Strongest connection is that he had a sword that they had at one point, but that's flimsy at best. Slightly less sketchy than the average NPC. (Note: Still sketchy in his own right, but the flimsiness of his connection to the cult is enough to include him on this list. Yes this is how sketchy this city is that that merits inclusion on the not sketchy list)
Mizra: Not actively connected to the cult. She met Morcien once, and Morcien is connected to the well and thus the cult, but we have no evidence that Mizra's on her side, she seems more vaguely against ish.
Rakesh's daughters: One of them could easily be the sand witch, we have no information about most of them, sketchy. But still less sketchy than everyone not on this list, and possibly less sketchy than Wayne.
Va-Roon: He seems so likely not to be the big bad that I kinda want to confirm it. By like, murdering him. But there's the possibility that he's someone's spy or something.
The Mullihans: We have no evidence of a connection to the cult. We also have no information on anything about them, and they seem sketchy. Also, they favored democracy. One way to win an election? Have a large cult following. I suspect that they're involved with the cult.

Zenith charges him, Conman and Lilith full attack him, he shouldn't be able to survive. We put the body in the bag, I prestidigitation clean up his blood if the area is empty, we grab the body, leave, and plan our next move against Ferric and his fiance.


This would have worked it Wayne were an L7 wizard, but he's not, he's an L12 assassin. Okay this is going to be difficult.

There are two very dangerous encounters. We are trying to figure out how to survive them. Our plan is to split the party?

Also Jenna doesn't have disintegrate. She has at least one level of assassin and is below L13. In order to get 8 ranks in hide to qualify for assassin she needs a level of something which doesn't advance casting, thus she can't hit caster 11, thus no disintegrate.

Wayne's either assassin, bard, or gish.

Edit: He can't be a bard, we would have seen him sing when he cast. Since he didn't, he's either assassin or Gish.

Feedback on this campaign:
NPCs:
Actually I've decided that my favorite NPC was Markus. We all hated him, he was an evil scumbag, and that made him incredibly satisfying to murder. Like St. Harriet. (Though that one I'm not sure if we all hated him or if it was just me)
Jenna seemed like a generally great person and would probably have been the best NPC if she had had more screentime.
Wayne was actually pretty cool. I disliked him during the campaign because I thought he was hiding a grand plan to be super evil and I disliked him because I thought he was dishonest but it turns out he wasn't so he was pretty cool and I misjudged him.
Ferric was a dickhead.
Mizra was not as cool as Sonika.
Edward was an awful human being.
The Rakesh daughter who replaced him in the council was cool. The rest of them lacked souls.
None of the NPCs had positive qualities like they did last campaign. With the possible exception of Jenna who we saw for all of 5 seconds. Also Mineria and druidlady who we saw for all of 10 seconds. Maybe it was just the order in which we did things I guess. But like, last campaign we had:
The cleric who selflessly ran and defended an orphanage.
The lawyer who worked hard to ensure justice was delivered.
The detective who fought to protect the townsfolk.
Even the unrepentant serial killer was a generally great person overall. (She was honest, that's really the best thing I can say about her which isn't completely subjective)
This campaign we had:
Someone who stayed out of everything. (Most positive quality possible)
A guard captain who was planning to throw a coup and oppress the townspeople
A coward who didn't really do anything other than surrender
A greedy businessman
Another greedy businessman
An idiot with a stupid plan who refused to consider any others
A general idiot who seemed kind of decent but was an idiot
A dickhead


Other things:
The pacing was good. Last campaign the beginning was kinda boring just wandering around pointlessly not knowing what to do. There was none of that this campaign. It felt a bit short though (As in, in terms of time spent I prefer a larger ratio of later act to earlier act than this campaign had. Since the next campaign you said act 1 isn't going to be a dungeon dive that doesn't really matter that much though)

Otiluke's Dispelling Screen (CArc) has the following clause: "Spell effects not operating on objects or unattended creatures cannot pass through the screen."

Does it block:
Effect spells like rays? (The same category spell turning fails to block)
Area spells with a point of origin/center on the other end of the screen? (For example, if I cast glitterdust right next to the screen, does the screen prevent half the glitterdust from happening?)
Area spells with the caster on the other side of the screen (If I'm on one side of the screen can I cast glitterdust onto a monster on the other side?)
Spells which are neither area nor effect spells (For example: I'm on one side of the screen, can I use hold monster on someone on the other side)
Fireball, which is not an effect spell, but causes you to shoot a glowing bead (I mean does it block the glowing bead so like situation 3 but special).

My interpretation is that it blocks 1,2 and 5 but does not block 3 and 4, is this correct? Also does it block spells which do not allow SR? (For example: The orbs)

Are you allowed to attack a creature and an object in the same full attack? Does "the ground" count as an object?
I've realized a hole in the exploding weapon/cunning defense build: You need to hit on your last attack. If you don't, the weapon doesn't explode, you can't hide, and you get murdered. Is it possible to get around this by using your last iterative (Which stood a good chance of missing anyway), to trigger an explosion by attacking the ground?

How to deal with a frenzied berserker who lacks a will save:
Step 1: Acquire a large amount of chickens. (They cost 1 sp/chicken) Kill them all. Raise them all as skeletons. (I'm not entirely sure how necessary the raising them part is, but like you don't want one to run away)
Step 2: All partymembers carry around a Heward's Handy Haversack filled with skeletal chickens. Frenzied Berserker carries around a chicken skeleton perched on his shoulder or something.
Step 3: If Frenzied Berserker gets damaged without an enemy nearby, he attacks the nearest creature (The chicken skeleton he's carrying)
Step 4: When FB is frenzying with no enemies nearby, all partymembers take out a chicken skeleton, drop it, then move away from the frenzied berserker. Frenzied berserker attacks the nearest creature, which is a chicken skeleton. There are no party members within range and he can't attack in the middle of a charge, so he doesn't attack the party.
Step 5: Repeat step 4 as needed, all partymembers make sure to keep a chicken skeleton in between them and the frenzied berserker.

Now that Planar Handbook is legal, Full Plate is no longer the best armor. Mechanus gear has +10 AC, as opposed to Full Plate's +8. (But it reduces your movement speed to 15 feet). Should we get that instead?

Energons (Summoned by Summon Monster V) are incorporeal and deal 4 (touch) attacks at 3d6 each, 2d6 of which is energy, type depends on which one, there is a sonic one. When they die they deal 1d8+9 to all enemies in a 20 foot burst, ref half. They're very squishy other than their incorporealness, 35 HP 16 AC no DR.

Question about Warforged:
In Races of Eberron, they are said to have a slam attack (Natural weapon), "A warforged has a natural weapon in the form of a slam attack that deals 1d4 points of damage."
In MM3, the section with Warforged as Characters does not list their slam, but in their monster entry their attack is "Attack: Spear +2 melee (1d8+1/×3) or slam +2 melee (1d4+1)", implying they have a natural slam attack.

The RoE version is exceedingly strong. It gives them a free extra attack at -5. The MM3 table version doesn't make that much sense, if they have a natural slam attack they should be able to use it in a full attack in addition to their manufactured weapons, but full attack says they only use one or the other, not both. Possibly they could but either the attack bonus would be so low they don't bother, or it's a mistake and they shouldn't have a slam, or it's a mistake and they should use both. Or possibly they are intended to have a slam which functions like an unarmed strike rather than a natural weapon. (Cannot be used alongside manufactured weapon)

Do warforged have a slam? Which version do we use?

Errata is silent on the issue.

Other creature entries have the similar weirdness of having a natural attack and not using it in full attack with a weapon.

Suppose I am currently a cleric with the war domain. I take a level of OC, and get a bonus domain because I already have the war domain. At the same time, I get the opportunity to trade away non-war domains for bonus feats. Can I trade away the domain I just got?
Are the CWar domains legal for PHB deities? Can I take courage domain as a cleric of Heironeous?
Is knock-down from d20srd legal? Can a character with improved trip and knockdown use knockdown to obtain a free trip attempt then use improved trip to obtain a free attack? (Effectively giving them two attacks for the price of one for each enemy) (Internet says you can but internet has weird rulings)

Mercs not being infiltrated is weird, I was almost sure they had been. I should probably go again with arcane sight/detect magic. That's more visible though.

In general most enemies don't have DR, and even out of those who do, plenty have DR/Magic, which the normal cold iron version won't cover but the keen one will, DR/Slashing, which both cover, and DR/bludeoning, which neither cover. Also DR/Silver, so take one of the silversheens we found. Also DR/Adamantine and DR/Holy, which nothing we have at the moment covers so let's hope we don't run into those yet. Imogen take the other silversheen. (Jorik already has an artifact which bypasses Silver and Cold Iron damage resistance)

Speaking of DR/Silver, Einar gets 20 silvered arrows. (We have no reason to believe we'll be up against DR/Silver, but just in case.) And also 20 slashing and 20 blunt arrows. (But those two have negligible price, so I think that counts as infinite?)

It was errataed to read

Enduring potency says "you can treat the second casting as if it had come from your daily allotment of spells for the purpose of ... and any other effect of the spell."
Can I use Lingering Metamagic and Enduring Potency at the same time?
For example, suppose one round I cast Silent Image heightened to 5th level. Next round can I use Silent Image from a wand and heighten it to 5th level with Lingering Metamagic?

You're probably thinking of the clause which says you can't use Lingering Metamagic twice in a row, and also can't lingering metamagic off of a metamagic rod.
"The second spell doesn't count as being affected by a metamagic feat for the purpose of this benefit (that is, it doesn't entitle you to apply the metamagic feat to a spell you might cast in the following round). Only spells you cast using your own metamagic feats (as opposed to metamagic effects from magic items) allow this option to function."

Actually I'm not even sure if you need enduring potency to get lingering metamagic in, it just says "cast", not "cast from your daily allotment of spells". (And in Enduring Potency it lists what you're doing as "cast[ing] from a scroll or wand", the phrase "you cast" is still there)
(Though enduring potency would still be necessary to have a relevant DC/CL)

Plan for interrogating Miramane:
Step 1: Ask her about Allea.
Step 2: If she refuses, knock her out, put her in a bag.
Step 3: Point out that we have the amulet of curing her disease. She is evil and wants to live, hopefully this outweighs any loyalty she may have had.
Step 4: Provided she gives us enough information, cure her with the amulet. (She stays in the bag)
Step 5: Cast atonement on her, turn her good again. Depending on what information she gave us, keep her in the bag.

I ask her to start with with diplo, if she refuses Jorik asks her with intimidate. Imogen watches and tells us if she lies.

What does everyone else want to do with Miramane? She's evil and probably not going to accept an atonement.

In-character, Grimwire shares the information which Miramane told him with the rest of the party. (Doesn't say it came from Miramane though, she asked me not to tell anyone that it came from her. Implies it came from a knowledge check)

The information:
Pelor (That super evil deity associated with The Burning Hate), was pissed about the order to leave civilians behind when the events of this post happened. Orthrax and his men had the evil extraplanar entity protecting them from Pelor's wrath, the only person Pelor could take his anger out on was the governor, who could have vetoed the order but didn't. Pelor cursed the governor and his family by taking away their afterlife, as soon as they die their souls will be obliterated. Allea is a member of that family, if Allea dies she cannot be resurrected.
