I wonder if the Browns will have a chance at the playoffs a la the Philadelphia 76ers and Las Vegas Golden Knights.

I think they should take Allen since Carson Wentz came from a smaller school and lead the Eagles to the playoffs in his second year. Allen seems to have a similar football IQ to Wentz. Big 5 players have tougher schedules but they also get hit more and are products of QB factories that may or may not be reflective of QBs true talent.

Allen may be the most likely bust but he also has the most likely upside. There are a lot of quarterbacks out there competing for starting positions and you don't want to waste a top 5 pick on a qb that will be a backup for most of his career or worse.

Last heisman trophy winner to win a super bowl was Charles Woodson from the 1998 draft, the last #1 pick heisman trophy winner to win a super bowl was George Rodgers from 1981. So I don't think this was a great pick from the Browns. They should have gone with Josh Allen.

I've got nothing against Mayfield but the record for Heisman Trophy winners as #1 overall picks is not good.

Winston, Newton, Bradford, Palmer...all heisman trophy winners picked #1. None have yet to win a Super Bowl.

1 of those guys was really good though. And 1 of them is currently really good. The other the jury is still out on. And Bradford is an above average starter when he isn't hurt.

And in 17 years only 10 QBs have won a super bowl. In 13 in 20. 7 of those 13 are either in the Hall of Fame or guaranteed to be in the Hall of Fame. It's a very weird thing to measure success solely by whether or not you won a super bowl or not.

I'm pretty sure Cleveland wants to win a Super Bowl. Maybe I'm wrong.

I didn't say early round, I said specifically overall #1 pick and heisman trophy do not mix historically. Just based on history. If a super bowl ring is your goal.

Not really, just like you shouldn't take a kicker with the #1 overall pick. Mayfield could end up winning 10 super bowls. Just my prediction he won't.

Arizona is easily the worst team in the conference. They might be decent but the NFC West is probably the strongest conference in the league.

We still have Dion Jordan, Bobby Wagner, Shaquil Griffin, Byron Maxwell, Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor on defense. That would be decent by most people's standards. I bet we are still in the top half of the league. And since the whole offense is build around Russell Wilson I don't think the OLine is the highest priority. You can't have everything.

I think calling society a "white supremesist society" is an oversimplification. Society has made a lot of progress in race relations the past 60 years. Using sports as a platform for social change is one thing, but just because fans don't want to be reminded of racial injustice everytime they sit down to enjoy a game doesn't make them racist. Moreover, Black Lives Matter's egotism and lack of support for any other racial minority doesn't make it seem like they want change for society, just change for themselves, which is fine, but I don't think most of society is interested in social warfare at this point in history.

That's dumb, NFL teams shouldn't be punished for not wanting to alienate fans.

Fans should be less racist.
Maybe the players should find a forum to voice their social concerns where their jobs aren't at stake.

I know the point of the protests, but there is a risk involved when you are going to do something that is going to upset a significant amount of people.

You can't just say anti-protesters are racist and protesters have no fault and that everyone should just give into every demand they have. The NFL is not responsible for social injustice so it's not fair to make them responsible for it or to use their field as a platform.

It is if their employers ask them to. If I do something in my job that brings negative attention to the company I would get fired immediately.

I'd still like an answer to this, by the way.
because n f l fans write the players paychecks. maybe in a perfect society it wouldn't be that way but it is.

That's my point. social justice isn't just about blacks but you would think it was. the me too movement, for example, is far more effective and appropriate.

well I guess if you say I'm the problem it's true. I think police should be more careful in using force but I would guess there are reasons for tension between blacks and police besides racism.

You are in the class of people who needs to be reminded of racial injustices by the police until you either A) get it or B) reveal yourself to be the racist you claim you aren't. There is no C, there is no D, there is no E, F, G, H and so on and so forth. And since you watch the NFL, that seems like a good as place as any for you to be reminded of these things.

Unless you mean to tell me you would actually consider these issues, if only you saw them somewhere else.

Except...no you wouldn't because you like to trash black people protesting because they aren't inclusive enough.
I understand there are social justice issues in America. I don't think anyone who doest want to be subjected to protests should be labeled racist or part of the problem.

it's not harmless. people are taught to stand for the anthem and respect the flag for a reason. the nation as a whole is not the problem and the military is not the problem. That's what the anthem is for. I respect what the protestors are fighting for but they are protesting the wrong thing in the name of publicity.

So why is it wrong to encourage people to be respectful to the flag and national anthem? Patriotism is not a bad thing. Those wanting to be patriotic are not bad people. Wanting equality is not bad either but there has to be a middle ground or another way.

You appear to be wrong...

During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

so are you as offended when your neighbors leave their flag out at night without illumination?
I'm sure some parts of the code are more important than others. Standing during the anthem is taught and encouraged. Keeping the flag lit at night is not.
