Lebanon (Studio Killers) - Not bad. I don't hate it by any means. It's catchy. I think it lacks a real punch, but it's not bad at all. (B)
Iceland (Huntsmen) - This kind of dissonant sparse metal never really clicks with me. I'm sure it's great but I just can't get into it. (C-)
Hungary (Peter Murphy) - It's a little boring and muddled. Maybe something I'd put on shuffle but it'd be 50/50 whether I'd skip it. (B-)
São Tomé and Príncipe (Jim van der Zee) - This guy has a voice like Johnny Cash, which is great. It's unfortunate the musicality of it is really bland. But points for a good interesting voice and style. (B)
Japan (Amy Winehouse) - I can't believe this was never submitted before? It feels like cheating. Rest in Peace, Amy. What a fucking goddess. (A-)
Greece (Polina Gagarina) - Don't hate this at all. I feel like it takes a weird tonal shift midway through? Not understanding the language is a barrier for me to get the whole song. (B-)
Slovenia (Avatar) - As soon as I saw this band preview I knew I'd hate it. (F)
United Kingdom (Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton) - Has potential. Could be generic, could be good. And... it didn't go anywhere. Missed opportunity. (C+)
Burkina Faso (Paus) - This is pretty great. Like, actually good? I wish I could understand it though, it would heavily increase my enjoyment. (B+)
Yemen (Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers) - I'm sure this type of stuff is like jizzworthy to the people who can appreciate it. I'm an idiot though. (C+)
Djibouti (Tessa Violet) - I don't even know. This feels like something I should be in love with but it's just SO generic and has no bite to it, even when it's trying to be sassy. I'm sure that means 2 months from now it'll be on one of my Spotify playlists. (B)
USA (Greyhaven) - This certainly has an audience. I assume. (F)
Singapore (CIKI) - Anime? In my Christian song contest? Voice is super generic, so is the music. (C+)
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (Mike B) - Mike B isn't half bad. Probably not the best pick? But with a contest this meh so far, this is probably getting points. (B)
Egypt (Semisonic) - I mean sure. It's fine. Everyone has heard this already. It's nothing special. Maybe if I hadn't been desensitized to it by every single bar in America playing this at 2AM to get people out, I would welcome it as some nostalgiac blast from the past. (C)
Luxembourg (Blind Guardian) - This certainly has an audience. I assume. (F)
Central African Republic (Talking Heads) - Great pick. Getting points. (B+)
Anguila (J.I.D.) - Digging this. Not revolutionary, but good enough. (B)
Chad (Lights) - This is exactly the type of thing I should love but it just hits too many cliches for me. Plenty of other pop artists released similar songs in the past year and did it better. (C+)
Latvia (Pendulum) - This feels like a track that was cut from the original Matrix movie. It's a lot of noise? And then more noise comes in on top of that noise. (C)
