Why do you play mafia?
I'm almost certain that people won't take this thread serious...well...but some good jokes aren't bad...
Anyway, as the self-explanatory title asks, why do you play mafia?
If someone did ask me it, I would say that's because it's one of those games that really let you make your own strategy unlike most "strategy games" where you simply need to analyze what the game benefits (what do more damage, what is the optimal way to manage your resources, etc) and simply follow the recipes. Mafia can be played in whatever way you want and playing against real and different people adds not only variance but a lot of possibilities/outcomes too. Plus, the idea of catching liars among people is genuinely interesting (although it gets stressing when the whole town becomes paranoid).
And you? What are your motives aside from the thrill of lynching people while they scream "I'm town!"?- Ranmaru

Well, I don't like to lynch people that scream town, I want to lynch scum. I think the reason for playing mafia at this point is deep. It's psychological, it's social, it's debate, it's a puzzling, all in one. I like that it has layers. I continue to play because at times I get bored, and I join a game when I have the time to spare.- Ircher

Main reason is to alleviate boredom. But lately, I've been busy, so I have had no time to play!
But on a deeper level, the anticipation et cetera can be really fun at times.- Ellibereth

I have a bomb attached to my heart.
If I quit mafia altogether, it will explode.
So long as I am either playing or modding or reviewing or otherwise involved in a game though, it won't go off.

I like mafia mainly because it's given me a lot of insight into how I think. I've found that the things I'm very good at in mafia are things I tend to be very good at in real life applications as well, and by the same token I've been significantly more aware of my weaknesses when they pop up.
I think the game itself is really... not good, but it has definitely improved my life in the long term.- the worst

I'm going to be serious here: I play Mafia because it's a lot of fun to try and scumhunt. And I'm a huge aruger, which is probably why I get into deathtunnels and heated 1v1s so much lol. So it provides a sort of release for RL that I enjoy.
The reason I mod IRL is because I love to watch my friend s struggle and get paranoid a bout each other XD."Do I have permission to....refute some of the bs that Inferno just spewed out?"--TywinL

real talk I'm a junkie for stress and pressure : D
for a weirdo like me it's so nifty having a source of continuous pressure whenever i want it. <3
plus I love competing against myself and every game makes me wonder what I can do to be better. it's one of those things where you can never be perfect and like, personally ik for a fact i'll never be #1.
also the people on MS are like exceptionally cool.
and lots of other reasons but mine are all so niche and personal- mutantdevle

I'm attracted to anything that provides me intrapersonal and interpersonal knowledge.((Basically, self-awareness and people-awareness))
I think MS succeeds in making the game mafia bigger than it is. There's a lot of themes, strategies, roles, and ways to approach a game that's purely psychological.
A mafia game is rarely ever like another, and that's the novelty of it. While stress and conflict are part of the game, and can be overwhelming to most people - myself included - I just find Mafia to be a fun and stimulating mind game."Taly is going to be a hot mess all game and I am entertained" ~ Gammagooey

I have nothing else to do. :/Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

i enjoy the debating and trying to catch people lying aspect of it.
tbh i really shouldn't have joined when i did, and played all throughout this year 'cause i was in my last year of uni, but i got addicted like all y'all.
i kinda look at people who are being shitty IRL now, and in my head i go "scumslip."GTKAS

I play Mafia for practice at interacting with people some of who are trying to deceive me, and some of who think I'm trying to deceive them.
It's much better to get that practice in a controlled environment than learning via being defrauded in real life.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town - callforjudgement
