To add to this, some tales from my d5 promos

Promos 1:
I was 2-2, in my 5th game our rengar top decided to run it down mid and ended the game 1/23.

Promos 2:
I was 2-2, in my 5th game I played against a guy legitimately getting boosted by a challenger smurf in a boosting group known as L9 (EUW)... so yeah we lost that game

Promos 3:
I was 2-2, played horrendously in the 5th game so no complaints here

Promos 4:
Once again I was 2-2 (crazy I know) and had a lee sin mid. It did not go well.

Promos 5:
I actually won my promos 3-1 this time, surprisingly out of the 3 wins (all on nami) the easiest game by far was the first where I forgot to change my runes so I played guardian Nami (left over braum runes). It was actually fun, I was hella tanky early.

All in all I hate D5 and can finally go back to normals / messing around in flex.
Goodnight all.

I always get that feeling playing top. 9/10 times you’re just miserable if you have to pick before your opponent

Also some of it is just walk backwards. But between picking safer champions when you're first pick and playing them cautiously, you shouldn't be in situations where you're just totally worthless. But idk, I could see KScope's point in that "well, i can't pick the guy I wanted to pick because I don't get to go 2nd so this is stupid. I just want to be Jax, this is not fun), but like..if you're a Jax one trick and just want to play Jax I guess I only got 2 words for you: git gud.

Sion, Cho, probably renekton. All those guys are super safe. I reliable probably is safe by virtue of no bad matchupa cause she's op.

renekton seems considerably less safe than sion/cho
and irelia seems to die more often in lane than the
vast
majority of toplaners, but people are still learning her i spose

irelia can still easily 1v1 you even if she dies if you don't crush her.
and try being an adc once she starts roaming with two items.

It's not fun unless you get advanced warning. If she catches you and you don't crush her, you're done as ADC.

even with advanced warning though she zones you really fucking hard, and at low elo you dont have good enough positioning as a team to peel and let the adc burst her.

Just having that 5 seconds of extra warning stops it from being a near-guaranteed kill in a lot of cases, though. You're absolutely right that you still get zoned out in a general sense, though.

Edit: DISCLAIMER, I'm a bronzie.

I played one game as new Irelia, and while I lost I found her very cheap and easy to cheese fights. The stun is actually bonkers. Like set one get to backline set the other and you have effectively split their team up.

5 seconds!?
Typical botlane situation, you're on purple side and ward tribrush. You see Irelia run through tribrush to river. It's bronze so everyone is bad (which is why i said 5 seconds and then edited to specify that I'm bronze) I recognize that such an event should actually only give good players maybe 3 seconds of prior notice, but that is enough for a higher skilled player to prepare themselves.

Where are you in lane in the hypothetical? When did you start backing up(when she was behind dragon or when she was in river? Idk man...League is a bad game.

In the theoretical example I gave, the ADC is almost exactly in the middle and the support is within casting distance in lane, towards the blue side, but not in a bush. The enemy adc/support fall back a little bit, trying to entice you to push their tower, and you start to do so, but then you notice the irelia on your minimap (totally unrealistic for bronze, maybe, but i usually notice, even if i don't always know how to react). The 3 seconds is generally enough time to run to almost within your tower's range so long as you didn't push tower. If you pushed tower, the warning is enough to use movement abilities / selectively place antimovement abilities to make the gank riskier for the enemy.

I wish I could diagram because this type of thing is my jam.

Typically, in bronze you have somewhere between a second and 1.5 seconds warning from when irelia jumps from brush to when the stun ability is cast, and if you're caught off guard you're significantly more likely to be stunned, both metaphorically and in reality.

I've been aggressively working on my vision awareness since you pointed it out to me, but I'm still kind of bad and prone to getting caught up in the moment/making bad snap decisions that don't include all the available information.

Image (annie suplexes tibbers)

Edit: I forgot to make this clear. You either back up when you notice dragon get taken (5 second warning) or when you see her via brush/tribrush wards (1-3 second warning for purp side brush, depending on ward location, or 3 second warning for tribrush approach)
