Welcome, Mish Mash, to the distant future.

Corporations have subverted democracy and now rule the world under an oligarchic iron fist. To them, we are all pawns in their geopolitical games.

"The distant future."

Luckily, there is hope. We are all members of The Resistance, a highly trained espionage team to take down The Empire.

Our next 5 missions will determine the fate of the world as we know it.

But there are spies in our midst...

So what is The Resistance?

Spoiler: THE BASICS
The Resistance is inspired by Mafia, with the elimination mechanic removed, and win conditions replaced by a points system. The game is essentially centred around townhunting over scumhunting.

Depending on the number of players, there will be 2 or 3 Empire spies working together to sabotage The Resistance. Think of spies as scum, and Resistance as town.

If The Resistance successfully completes 3 "Missions" out of 5, The Resistance wins. If the spies successfully sabotage 3 Missions, The Empire wins.

tl;dr
: It's a Mafia game but you're voting for town.

Spoiler: GAMEPLAY (Different from board game)
Setup:
Pre-game, the mod will PM the players telling them if they are Resistance (town) or Spies (scum). See below for the number of spies for particular game sizes.
The Spies may not privately communicate.

Day phase:
The game is played in 5 rounds (day phases). During each round, the players will vote on a team of players that they want to go on the "Mission" (the mission is just flavour). Each round requires a different number of players for the Mission, ranging from 2 to 5, depending on the number of players.

Voting:
Votes will be cast and counted like in a mafia game. On a day requiring a 2-person team, for example, one might VOTE: Mathdino & northsidegal. When a simple majority is reached on a particular team, the thread will be locked and that day's team will "go on the Mission".

Night:
During this Mission (night phase), each player must PM the mod whether they want to pass the Mission, or sabotage it. Unless otherwise indicated, a mission requires every player on its team to "pass" in order to win.

If the Mission succeeds, the Resistance gain a point. If the Mission is sabotaged, the Spies gain a point. The next round then begins.

In the morning, the number of players who chose to sabotage is publicised.


Miscellaneous:
If the deadline (up to the moderator, I use 1 week) is reached on a round without reaching a majority, the Spies automatically gain a point, the Mission is skipped, and the next round begins.

All standard rules of mafia apply. While modding, I will be using my standard ruleset.

Hey guys, so by very popular request after last Marathon Weekend, I've decided to run a 7p game!

The 5p game is mainly for if there's overflow. I intend to run the 7p game first.

Day deadlines will be equal to the number of players. 1 week for 7p, 5 days for 5p.

tl;dr

4 town, 3 scum

5 days

Every day you vote for a bunch of people you think are town.

When a particular bunch of people hits majority, game goes into night.

If they're all town, town wins a point.

If any of them are scum AND the scum in the bunch chooses to sabotage, scum wins a point.

First alignment to 3 points out of 5 wins.

The number of people you have to vote on each day changes based on a table (it's in there more for mods than for players).

Clearer/more specific rules for 7p Resistance will be put up when I make the game thread.

People recommended I run it here because it's not technically mafia for a variety of reasons.

Just think of it like a micro game. I'll be using mafia rules and vote counts and everything :P

For the leader mechanic to be possible, it would basically go:

1. Have an opening post with the leader rotation.

2. The leader bolds their proposal in-thread.

3. Players vote either simultaneously (by PMing the mod) or openly (by voting yes/no).

I think simultaneous voting is unwieldy, and is the reason the leader mechanic was nixed. A day might have up to 5 leaders, each requiring about a day for each player to check in and vote.

Open voting is actually something I could definitely be interested in, however. It wouldn't require 24/7 mod activity to uphold, because
- If there are 3 Nay votes, the next leader can already start proposing.
- If there are 3 Yea votes, then the mod starts the night just like usual.

I'd mod but Dynamic Duo is coming up so I'm gonna be a bit busy in that department. So in this case, if anyone's interested in having a leader mechanic with open yea/nay voting, I'd say that's up to the mod as long as they label it as a variant :D
