In post 73, Aristophanes wrote:48 is an awful lot, but if that is the way they are splitting it it's kinda nice. I was thinking they'd do like 8 groups of 6 or something and was trying to figure out how that would work!

Also travel time is going to be a bitch! Like, split country games is alright is some cases like Korea/Japan, but like, if a team has a game in Mexico and the next one in Canada it's really going to hinder them, unlike a team who was already in Canada amd doesn't have to fly up! Or if they have a game in the east thn the west (or vice versa) timezones will screw them up!

This should be very interesting.
The flights from New York to Los Angeles are likely longer than the flights from Mexico to Canada. Mexico City to Montreal is a 5 hour flight. It obviously would take a long time if teams were flying commercial and had to connect, but they'll charter planes and go direct.

Oh yeah, I forgot FIFA is filthy rich for a minute :P

Maybe this is less of a factor than I think, it just seems like they're likely to spend all their time commuting and end up jet lagged.

I've been wrong before though!

I’d sooner have 24 than 48 tbh
Also, what is NM doing? Worst play I’ve ever seen.
I can't remember the last N_M post that wasn't bland, unimaginative and lame. Some shitposters are at least somewhat funny. You are the epitomy of the type of poster that nobody would miss if you were to suddenly disappear. You never add anything of value.
I'm guessing you haven't read the game and probably never will? Why even sign up to play?

yeah i think this is just a play to get major markets assuredly into the tourney
lot more money to be made if places like US and China are always playing
also avoids the upsets of losing out major teams like Netherlands and Italy

It's certainly to get more money, but in this case I think that aligns with a good result otherwise.

I don't really see a reduction in teams as making for a better competition, honestly.

Yeah, fewer teams would suck and I could totally see goid teams getting snuffed if they did that!

Also on the North American ones, will all 3 countries be guaranteed a spot? Usually the host country gets their team in automatically, but with 3 hosts how does that work??

I believe all countries will be, but at least in the original proposal for increasing teams, auto-qualification will take away from their region. For Mexico and the US that's likely not going to have taken away a spot (although as we've seen this year it's not impossible!) from another team, but Canada might. Still, even if you thought that all 3 hosting teams wouldn't have qualified, the same number of teams as compared to the 32 team version will qualify from CONCAAF.

In post 68, zoraster wrote:I wonder how they'll handle the altitude of Mexico city and to a lesser extent Denver. It's not a problem really if it's consistent through the group, but given Mexico has 3 host cities and only 10 matches, it's likely Mexico city only gets 1 round of a group, which makes that game pretty different than the other games in Houston or whatever.
tbf Houston and Orlando will also be garbage to play in for different reasons. Teams are going to be playing in 100% humidity and dying.

Uruguay individually looked really good, but their play in the final third was very lacking in creativity until the end of the game (and they won on a set piece, which isn't that weird with how much more athletic/tall their CB pairing was that Egypt)

They'll coast out of this group in first, but they need to get their shit together for the knockout round

egypt defended pretty well and made themselves hard to break down, tbf.

but yeah, i don't really know if uruguay played well individually either? like suarez def should have scored/didn't look really good and i thought the uruguay midfield had terrible final ball even when they did get decent positions.

they'll probably play better against teams not designed to prevent them from playing, though.

Suarez was bad. Cavani and the CB pairing were insane. Midfield was fine, but lacking in creative ideas.
