Self meta is generally frowned upon. And people make genuine mistakes regardless of alignment.

Would be hilarious if scum got caught interrupting the count, and really did not mean to do it.

So far the count has never been so high that interruptions would have mattered much, and the accidents have probably been real. Scum could be testing the waters though, to see what they can get away with. That is going to be the real trick of course. Interrupting the count is easy, not getting scum read for it is hard, and gets harder the higher the count was.
