Day One
Outside its cold, raining and already getting dark. Winter in New Jersey is miserable, doubly so for a working stiff. As the work day winds to a close, the everyday patrons of the Satin Dolls Gentleman's Club begin to arrive in ones and twos. All sorts of people make themselves at home in the club every night to watch the girls dance and forget about their problems with a drink in hand. But tonight, something has changed.
Behind the stages and the dancing girls a private card game is going on in the manager's office. Everybody in the neighborhood knows about the infamous Moretti crime family, but not many were aware of the small crew that operated out of the back of Satin Dolls. A cell phone rang, and the shuffling stopped.
"Yeah boss?" A pregnant pause. "I got it." Nervous looks pass between subordinates. "The feds are onto us. Somebody out there is talking to them. The don wishes for us to take care of the problem." It takes a moment for everyone to comprehend the gravity of this statement. "We start tonight."
A scream from the dancers' changing room breaks the hypnotic spell the club has cast on its patrons. The girl on stage freezes. For a long second, nobody reacts at all. Then somebody shakes off the stupor and runs into the back to find out what happened. He returns, his face a little whiter, with one of the dancers clinging to his arm sobbing.
"Its Monika," he explains. "She's.. she's dead. It looked like she was strangled." Everyone stares at him blankly.
"Strangled?" someone repeats.
"Yes. And there's more. There was a note." He reaches into his pocket and pulls it out.

Suspicious looks pass between the patrons of the Satin Dolls Gentleman's Club.
"We should go to the police," says a timid voice.
"Absolutely not," someone else counters. "I don't know what this is about, but those animals would certainly kill us for that."
"Be careful what you say!" warns a third person. "They're probably still here. They're probably among us right now." The implications of that statement are quickly realized. The doors to the club are quickly shut and barred.
"No police then. We do this the old fashioned way."
