Got the game, but it has been unreliable so far. Though I did catch a horsea despite there being no water features (let along the ocean) anywhere near where I live. Really weird.
Raids let you confront powerful pokemon with friends, and if you beat them, you get a chance to catch them. Trades are a new feature that haven't been fully implemented yet.
I got an Ex-Raid pass for a Mewtwo. Go to the gym on raid day. We have about 60 people, so we're obviously going to split by team to ensure we all get bonus balls. My team is set to go in first. Just as everyone goes in, my phone freaks out and I can't get in on the raid. For whatever reason right at this gym there is a tiny spot where serve goes dead, and when my phone encounters tiny deadspots it freaks the fuck out. Get everything fixed...but unfortunately I have to join the raid with Mystic.
So I only get 6 balls. Then...the game lags on my first three throws and the ball just dribbles on the ground. Mewtwo jumps out of the way of one, and then breaks out the other two, game over.
Raid days/community days are 3-hour events. If you're not playing during that window, than you don't get to participate. In the Americas and Greenland, it is from 2-5pm Eastern. It is probably similarly in the afternoon in the other 3 regions local time.
Raiding, playing with friends, trading. This game is not meant to be a solo experience. Sure, you can play some aspects by yourself, but higher tier game content you need to play with others to access.
I am also a part of my local discord, it covers most of NEPA. I'd never be able to raid without it.
But then we circle back to "Niantic does not intend this game to be a single player experience". They are purposely making this game so that you have to play with friends to achieve high level stuff. Your experience of "hopefully I stumble on random people raiding" is not the intended experience, and thus, the gameplay will not reflect that. Getting legendaries is super easy when you are playing the game as Niantic intends you too.
Because as part of your argument you detail how labor intensive it is for you to get to the encounter in the first place, and for the player playing the game with a community as the developers intended, this is not an issue. Getting legendaries, and getting multiple legendaries, is easy, and the RNG is a little inconvenient at most. Ergo, the solution to your problem is to get in with your community.

Niantic doesn't care about those types of players essentially, yes. This is not unlike most multi-player games or MMOs. Developers don't really care about the single player experience.
Yeah totally. The solution to his problem is to play as Niantic intends him to play though. All hail our corporate multi-player micro-transaction masters.
Definitely worry about the gifts because the only way we can do a Mafiascum trainer league is if we are all ultra friends first. That's 37 whole days of sending each other gifts!
