Have been playing quite a bit of Galio mid lately in flex and it's been a much easier experience than I expected. Stat sites like op.gg show him disadvantaged in a lot of matchups I felt pretty comfortable in - probably because my enemies lane against Galio pretty rarely these days. Laning before the first back is almost universally pretty tough but after that and especially once Galio finishes RoA, his waveclear is strong and he feels like a really wonderful mix of tankiness, utility and damage, like a Lissandra who trades laning ease and some damage for better (though higher CD) CC, global map pressure, and further bulkiness - which I think is a pretty good trade! My first attempts with Galio felt terrible because I couldn't figure out how to survive and keep up in cs during lane against most matchups, but lately I'm more comfortable leveraging his passive for waveclear and even poke. Figuring out when and how hard to trade against various matchups is my current main challenge w/ the champ, with figuring out how to pull off impactful ults reliably coming second. I also need to make better calls about when/how to engage/teamfight. In general, Galio has an interesting mix of mechanical and macro challenges to overcome but a satisfying payout for when that's pulled off. Dude makes the game feel fresh again.
In my last game, I realized that Nocturne's Ult is quite a sound counter against Galio's due to its vision restriction - because I can only ult teammates that I can see, I had a much tougher time countering his engages than I do vs other junglers. So he's probably going to have to be my main ban for a while.
i'm in the mood to try a little
