@Gamma: Kokichi did throw out a lot of conflicting information - I recall him saying Maria DID have the sword and also that Maria didn't. From scum POV, the only possibility I can think of for not killing Kokichi is if they thought Varsoon's claim held any weight? This should make it more likely that Varsoon is town.

Yep, and that he was Merlin.
If Varsoon was scum fakeclaiming, scum would be locked on Kokichi as Merlin.
If Varsoon was town, from scum perspective Jay had a higher likelihood of being Arthur as that was consistent with Varsoon and Kokichi's claims, perhaps?

I don't see why MariaR arriving would be a big deal -- she's not NK-able anyway, so anything she'd have to offer now she could easily do the next day.
Maybe scum realized Jay was the wrong kill and now know Kokichi is Merlin, so want him out as soon as possible?
