  • Fifteen players square off in a game with flavor based on the Starcraft universe.

[*]There will be a mafia faction, they will have daytalk.
[*]There may be at least one third party role
[*]All anti-town players will have full fake PMs including flavor
[*]10 day day 1, 8 day dayphases after that, 2 day nights (deadlines will be extended during holidays)
[*]This is not a bastard game. No cults, no mid-game alignment changes

The Boilerplate Rules


important bit

General

1. This game uses sitewide rules: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6470
1a. Do not private message other users about anything having to do with this game in any circumstance even/especially if you are dead/have replaced out/etc. If you even think it might be a grey area, it is not a grey area, it is not ok. This includes informal conversations on discord. Do not refer indirectly to game events in this game until the game is complete, including in signatures, signup threads, or anywhere else.
2. Did you know that discussion of ongoing mafia games is not allowed? -- viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30908
2a. Did you think there was an exception to 2? Nope, there isn't. There's no grey area. If the game is ongoing, IT DOES NOT EXIST IN THIS THREAD. No reference, whatsoever, should be made about other ongoing games. Ever. Not directly, not indirectly, not at all.

Respect

1. Be nicer to other people than they are to you. Attack the play not the player.
1a. Assume good faith for replace-outs. Players can cancel a replace-out if a replacement has not yet been found. Players can replace-back-in if they have not been dead threaded for the same slot, unless you were force replaced. If you replace out, please do not comment directly or indirectly about the game in other sections of the site including the queue and/or your signature. This falls into the broad umbrella of "outside influence."
1b. Sexual innuendo toward other players will result in a moderator warning.
2.
Play to win.

2a.
You must read your role pm, and confirm that you understand your role.

2b.
Do not state, whether honest or false, that you have not read your role pm
in-thread. If I somehow forget to send you a role pm or send you multiple role pms, please contact me

2c. You can claim scum, and you can claim scum with someone else provided that the moderator can reasonably suspect non-malicious motives behind such.
2d. Scum can night kill their teammates, but I must see evidence that such a move is not game-throwing.

4.

Honour

1. Do not attempt to impersonate the moderator.
Purple is my color, but you may use it as long as you are not attempting to impersonate me with it.

2. Do not edit or delete your post if for some reason you have the ability to do so.

Do not attempt to get the moderator to influence the game.
This rule does not refer to day abilities, if any exist, that are stated in your role PM.

Miscellaneous

1. Follow the spirit of the rules.
1a.
Do not attempt to find loopholes in the ruleset.

1b. While the moderator will generally assume good-faith, action can be taken against inadvertent rule breaks if deemed necessary.
2.
All PTs will be released within 24 hours of the game's conclusion.
Players in any thread except the Dead PT may request redactions at any time
before
I release the PT. The dead thread is released immediately on the conclusion of the game.
3. The moderator reserves the right to update this ruleset as necessary.
New items will be underlined

deleted items will be striked through.

Setup-Specific Rules

Activity and Deadline Rules

1. Day one lasts 10 days, other day phases will last 8 days. Nights last 48 hours. (After day 4, I reserve the right to shorten the length of the dayphase)
2.
Nights may be extended if a replacement is needed.
There will be a minimum of 24 hours between the time a replacement is found and when night actions are due.
3. You will be prodded after
48 hours
of inactivity; this does not change on weekends. All prods should be responded to
in-thread unless the thread is locked in which case pm is acceptable.

4. 2 prod dodges are equivalent to a single prod. If you are prodded again from prod-dodging, you may not prod dodge. Prodges must still include some game content: "Krazy is still scum", "Krazy is still town," and "I like this wagon" are good enough for a prodge. While a subjective rule, prod dodges are objectively defined as posts that consist of little or no content related to the game with the sole purpose of avoiding prodding. Minimum content is not defined here as to mitigate abuse, but do realize that this rule is applied as objectively as possible.
5.
V/LAs should generally be announced in-thread, not by pm.
You should also set V/LA in the User CP to make sure I do not forget.
6. If you have
regular weekend V/LA
, it is
your reponsibility
to either inform me at the end of
each week
or to remember to set V/LA status.
7.
V/LA players must post at least once every 96 hours.
Excessively long V/LAs (
14 days or longer
) may have stricter requirements imposed on them.
8. I reserve the right to warn and replace players whom I believe are exploiting loopholes in the activity rules. Please note that players are expected to do more than the bare minimum as outlined by these prodding rules. Voting, Lynching, and Twilight Rules
  1. To vote, use
    Vote: Player
    or VOTE: Player.
  2. To unvote, use

    or UNVOTE: Player.
  3. You do not have to unvote to change votes.
    Furthermore, I will only track the last *valid* vote in your post.
    Vote Conspiracy
    will not change your existing vote.
  4. Player abbreviations are allowed, although it must be *obvious* who your abbreviation refers to.
  5. Hammer occurs when votes equal to half of all living players (rounded down) plus one cast a vote against the same player (or No Lynch). All votes after a hammer will not be counted, and the hammered player is the one who will flip. The time following a hammer is Twilight, and all players may continue talking.
  6. No lynch will occur if deadline is reached without a hammer.

At daybreak, I may include flavor text (depending on my availability and schedule). Everyone has flavor. This is a theme game. You are not explicitly prohibited from speculating about flavor text, although, to be clear, a lot of the narrative-style information in my flavor reveals will not be based on night action content.

I have used Mathblade's vote counter before and liked it a lot, but using name variations that are not misspellings may cause me delays in updating the vote count. I may for any reason stop using the Mathblade vote counter and switch to conventional vote counting by hand.

Game Start:


Please make sure you confirm with your role and alignment by PM.

Alternate Win Conditions:

All town and mafia players cannot have their win condition change. Third party roles may have alternate win conditions. They will be informed of these alternate win conditions in their role PM. No player in this game can have their alignment change even if they have alternate win conditions.

Possible Roles:

There will be no cults or alignment-changing roles in this game. There will be no lies to the players. This is not a bastard game.

Additional roles that will not be in this game include: Beloved Princess, Governor, Jester, and Fruit Vendor

Non-Normal Roles that CAN be in this game include:
Janitor, Survivor, Lyncher, Bus Driver, Lightning Rod, Nexus, Redirector, Framer, Vanillaizer, Arsonist, Godfather

This includes variations to these roles both in mechanics and flavor.

There also can be new roles that would not be on the roles list.

The sun rises over the dusty, wind-swept barrens of Mar Sara. The orange glow of the sun, Sara, radiates through the thin atmosphere, across the orange sands and through the isolated, green plants, small signs of life in what might otherwise be thought of as a wasteland. The glow of the sun reflects off the helmets of a trio of colonial marines as they drive their vultures--hover bikes--across the dusty badlands. Plumes of dust erupt behind them as they make their way up a peak and park at the zenith, looking out across the expanse.

"Who's ready for some cold fusion?"
Schadd asks, plopping a cooler down from the storage of the hoverbike. It opens to reveal beers in ice, right next to the backup fragmentation grenades for the vultures.

"Been a long drive,"
Krazy replies.
"Seems like there ain't nothing out here, though. Why'd they send us out to check this Backwater Station?"


"Well, there was a report of some sort of impact,"
Mastina says, stepping beside them.
"We should be on the lookout for alien hostiles."


"Zerg? Or Protoss?"
Krazy asks.

"No way to know for certain until we check it out. Did you hear that?"


"Hear what?"
Krazy asks. And then, they turn and look behind them as the sound grows louder.

The sound of gunfire erupts. Then, the explosion of a grenade. Moments later, Krazy's body slumps to the ground, an ice cold beer rolling out of his now inert hand.

Schadd leaps onto the Vulture, sweat dripping down his brow.
"We have to warn them... we have to... get to Backwater Station..."

Where was Mastina? Schadd looked over his shoulder; she had to have gotten away. But she wasn't right behind him. She had to have gotten away... right? There was no time to go back for her; no time to figure out exactly what had happened. Backwater needed to know what was coming. They needed to understand...

The flames of the vulture engine flashed as Schadd gunned the throttle. He had to get there! Hovering over the sandy dunes, he saw a military FOB. A siegetank, out of siege mode, sat in the dusty plains, with only a few units around to provide vision and support.

Schadd drove up. Opening up a comm link, he said,
"You guys need to pull back! There's..."


"Listen, we're just a bunch of survivors out here,"
Creature said back,
"Nothing to see here."
With that, he leaned up out of the tank and made a hand motion to cut the official coms.

Schadd nodded and turned off his radio link. Stepping out of the vulture, he walked over to Schadd, his adrenaline still pumping.
"Sir, there's... we were attacked!"


"By what?"
Creature asked.

"Aliens, sir, I'm sure of it. They were using some sort of..."


"Make sense man. I tell you, what you backwater rangers need is some good 'ole fashioned discipline. This unit's a mess."


"They got Krazy! I'm heading into the outpost to alert them of the situation,"
Schadd said.

"Got one of your boys huh? Well, we're not pulling back from any fight. It'll take some time, but we'll start setting up into siege mode! Boys, ready her up!"


"Sir,"
Schadd said,
"I really think you should pull back into the town. You're on your own out here."


Creature shook his head.
"Been a general for fifteen years, and you think I'm going to take orders from a pup? Go ahead and go into town, boy."


Frustrated, Schadd jumped back onto his vulture and began burning fuel on his effort to reach Backwater Station. Maybe Creature's plan would work... there was no reason to think there'd be a sieged tank out here, with only talk of survivors on the radio...

Mastina's vulture blasted forward, turned back, and she let loose a fragmentation grenade. Where the hell did Schadd go? She could micro whatever they threw at her.

But where was the enemy? Damn it, did they manage to burrow? Or was it DTs? What the hell had happened anyway? Whatever the case, she dropped a Spider Mine. No matter who or what it was, if they tripped that, cloaked or not, they'd be in for a world of hurt.

She had been so ready to micro too... But no, time to get going.

She sped down the mountain, and could see the trail of dust still from Schadd's vulture. She lowered her visor and tried to cut out of the way of his dust-wake. There was nothing fun about trying to hoverbike your way through a dust cloud, and it was an all too common problem. Better to go off-road.

But she wasn't familiar with this area, and her plan to take a shortcut through a lower gulch ended up being a dead end. Damn it! By the time she got back to the main road, the dust wake was gone, but so was any sign of Schadd. The day was getting long, too. Night was coming on.

And that's when she heard the gunfire. It was coming from the direction of Backwater Station!

As she made her way through the night, she saw some military outcropping. There was a siege tank... shot all to hell. Why? How? She stepped out of her vulture and made her way to the cockpit of the tank. Another corpse. She fished for the nametag. "General Edmund Creature."

It didn't make any sense. Who would shoot a Terran General? Was there some sort of insurrection?

With the three moons hovering overhead, and the stars of the night sky bright, Mastina turned her lights on bright. She didn't want to miss anything else along the way.

And there was something else. As she drove along, there was some elephant-sized automated turret. What the hell was this thing? What madman would design such a strange weapon? But as she hovered closer, she saw that it too was shot to pieces. Was this a manned or an un-manned turret? She circled the thing once, and then saw a bunker--flaming, clearly having suffered a significant attack. Walking past some unused fuel cans by the door, she wandered inside and found another poor corpse. "Chief Engineer Rory Irrelephant."

What a brutal and violent night! But what could have happened? Where were the signs of alien attack? All of these dead looked like they'd been shot.

Finally, Schadd reached Backwater station. What had been happening out there, on the dusty badlands?

"Who's in command here?"
Schadd asked, driving his vulture to the first marine he saw.

The marine looked him up and down and then shrugged.
"I thought you were."


Schadd sighed. And that's when he heard it. The sirens.

An attack was coming.

"Get to your squad!"
Schadd yelled, and then began jetting his vulture.

Flames soaring behind him, he unlocked the fragmentation grenade launcher. He wasn't going to let any damn aliens hit the station before he'd even properly checked in.

And there they were.
Zerg.


There were four packs of zerglings, and two packs of hydras. Not the biggest force--but if all of those packs hit at once the station might go down nonetheless.

Schadd drove out. Three spider mines dropped out behind him as he approached the first pack of zerglings. Firing off a fragmentation grenade, he saw a zergling explode in a fiery inferno. That got their attention.

The dog-like aliens, with four long legs and two pincer on their abdomen with sick-looking spikes were fast. Thankfully for Schadd, this was not an upgraded strain... their top speed clocked out below his vulture's cruising speed.

Flying back, Schadd flew over his spider mines and then click the activation button.
Come on, you dogs...


As the zerglings came at him, a spider mine popped out of the badlands dirt and began to charge at the zerglings. As always it made that high-pitched squeal: REE REE.

And then it exploded. Zergling chunks spread across the dirt.

A few clever phrases flashed across Schadd's mind. "Now that's what I call a close encounter" -- he didn't quite say. There were still the other packs. He could hear the spray of machine gun fire from the marines. Backwater station was putting up a fight.

But the station was spread out. There, he saw a bunch of civilians run into a supply depot. And right behind them, a pack of ferocious zerglings.

Schadd gunned his engines. He could pick off the zerglings, but could he get there in time?

Frag! Zergling down.

Frag! Zergling down.

Finally he settled down. Were there any left? The bunkers were flaming, there were marines cut to pieces, but the station had held.

As he looked inside the supply depot, though, he saw that a civilian had gone down.

"These monsters... do they have no mercy?"

Mastina made her way through the night. In the distance she could see the flashes of muzzle fire and explosions. Backwater Station was turning into less of an outpost and more of a war zone. How much longer could she expect it to hold out when the casualties kept racking up?

Almost as soon as she had the thought, an explosion erupted overhead. She saw a trail of flashing shots from a far ridge, slamming into... the shields? of some airborn vehicle. Quickly Mastina shifted to INF view. The shape of the ship did not look terran in origin. Could this be one of the alien attackers finally being shot down?

Another round of shots fired off from the ridge. There were no more flashes of shields deflecting the bullets; tears of blue light erupted from the hull as explosions began to rock its trajectory.

The ship crashed into the dirty with a loud, searing roar.

Quickly Mastina hopped into her vulture and headed after it. It had to be protoss in origin, right? Yes, as she drew closer, it looked like a protoss shuttle in fact, something she had seen many images of. What was a support vehicle like that doing here, though?

She drove closer, and as she drew closer, she grew more and more alarmed. Was that a terran insigna, spraypainted onto the hull of the ship? And as she drove even closer, she saw the pilot... a terran man, stumbling out, until collapsing dead on the ground.

It had been a protoss shuttle... but the locals must have commandeered it at some point. Which meant this was just one more casualty for Backwater station...

A: If there was no movement, a motion detector would get a "no movement" result -- if there was an alien abduction on either the MD or the MD target, there would be "no result" rather than "no movement"

B: I cannot confirm that there is a witch in the setup, but I can confirm that if there was a role called a witch it would be a 3p redirector.

C: If a slot is roleblocked and witched/redirected, and a motion director targeted that slot, they would receive a result of: "There was movement with your target last night."

Kinda talked balance to death in the dead thread. I think the main thing was, as I mentioned there, that I should have made the PGO activateable. I mean.... this game had two full roleblockers, an alien, and a doctor. I was not expecting this many deaths this early. I generally design setups for a strong emphasis on dayplay. Obviously Mitillos taking advantage of the PGO hard claim and grabbing the vig swung things very much against both town and arson. In the offsite group I've run with this, there's both a tendency for no lynch d1 and faster dayphases (which results in fewer overall public claims). So I think I didn't adapt it quite fully for this site meta. There were also some things I should have done that would have fit with the themes of the game, particularly in regard to Relly's role.

Yeah I think I should have informed relly there was witch. I don't think gf was a huge problem here given that town did get the indirect guilty he was supposed to get (xtox block +varsoon zerg nk result) but it was a lot harder for town to connect the dots than I anticipated there. But even the false positive (nancy on tw) would have resulted in a scum lynch. That's one reason I was shocked neither performer or tw were lynched d2 particularly given the hammer.

Varsoon + rb counters gf, loud vig +doc eliminates some wifom, nauci can catch any of the other scum (and verynearly had a guilty on keyser going into d2). Scum played into the gf too well, so performer drew both xtox abduct and nauci invest.

Nauci also almost explained mitis role thru flavor spec at one point and nancy almost inferred a gf like role thru her informed status and inference on kerrigan flavor.

Mew inferred a correct inno on koki but somehow both got lynched...

I feel more like the pieces were constantly nearly falling into place for town and given how close this game really was (given one wrong witching throws it to town) I kinda don't know that giving town a lot more pieces was necessary, altho I do wish I gave relly one more direct hint. (I did confirm gf, redirector, and arson were all possible in the setup post).

Idk I'll have a few more coherent thoughts tomorrow

Yeah I'm sorry it went that way for you Varsoon, I couldn't resolve the game because until they had the numbers over Shoshin they couldn't win, but town was not in a winnable position the last dayphase.

If a win literally was impossible, as it was here, from what I can tell, then game should have ended.

I thought about calling it there but given that all it took was scum no lynching I thought I'd play it out to be on the safe side since it should have gone fast regardless. Scum had already kinda thrown me once off when they bussed Performer, when I thought the game was actually going to end there with a no lynch/rb. I think given that things kept surprising me I did not want to call a game early where the scum team kept doing unexpected things.

To be clear, I did not actually design Nancy's role to fuck with your role in particular... I wanted each person who had a "doppelganger" to know they had a doppelganger so that they would know they needed to be prepared to explain that their flavor to the town after the scum flip of their evil opponent.

Actually Performer was not informed that Nancy was his doppelganger, only Keyser was informed that you two were doppelgangers. And Keyser and you were not informed that Miti was another doppelganger, so you have a fair point that your role had a higher than average mindf*ck value.

I think if you and Nancy had gotten past the frustration of the moment Nancy might have asked whether her roleblock could have produced your no kill result

I think the exchange was important but there was too much chafing to get to the important information (even if it would have been incorrect there it might have helped xtoxm out his correct denial on Performer which also would have helped Nauci understand why she got no result).

Given that you had a soft guilty from the denied kill I don't think outing there was incorrect, town just didn't quite connect all the dots to get the Performer lynch pushed through.
