I was in a mafia month game and I was the scum in the neighbourhood.

VOTE: Party Boat

I dislike this logic. Just because you infiltrated a community in the past does not mean someone is automatically infiltrating that community.

It was less about my infiltrating anything and more about the same mod doing the same mafia month thing

if it was up to me we'd have a 3rd page lynch to get things rolling as this is a timed game and when I was scum last time I was actively being like 'oh I'll do that analysis this weekend' etc to slow people down.

The problem with this vote, is you don’t know who is scum and/or what possible value they may have to town. Don’t you think, you should try a little sorting before you possibly mislynch?

Past experience with other games Xyzzy has run with this flavour indicates Multiball is likely. I don't expect this to be particularly similar as it is just flavour, but we've got 24 players, so I highly doubt it isn't multiball. Also, the sample PM says factions plural.

(I'm not sure we had plain townies in the other Echo Bay game. More evidence this game is nothing like it.)

Okay thanks. This is my first Xyzzy game. I’m still kicking myself from not /inning in TAZ instead of CoH.

But I think there’s only one neighbourhood, since it didn’t have any distinguishing name, to indicate more.

This post seems scummy to me. He first starts off letting us know how busy he is - not generally a good sign but NAI by itself and has a “solid” read on” - after just 1 post? And then, he just conveniently disappears without ever explaining his vote? This is way more likely to come from scum than town, because town prefers to engage and question a bit before throwing down an unexplained vote. It’s a gross vote, no matter how you look at it.

That is the question of the market right now. I believe LeoCoin very well could be a bubble wagon. In general, I do think investing in a bubble wagon is a bad idea, unless you buy early and then sell before the crash. But that sort of behavior also risks a SEC investigation.

The depreciation of LeoCoin is not purely a result of his current investors but more his response to my observations about his IPO.

His recent V/LA post also seemed like it might not end up a scum flip or a green flip, but perhaps one of those wild card flips whose value is hard to evaluate.

What is so overwhelmingly honest about his posting?

His posts are fun and extremely entertaining, I’ll give you that.

Vax and Ausuka are also pinging me. I don’t like her Wagonomics’s honesty comment, it didn’t really make too much sense to me, and Vax, keeps shading Varsoon, yet voteparked on sheep - and has yet to give even a single reason for voting him.

a) my read on him has nothing to do with agreeing on the hood

if you read my posting on him or open my iso and command f, it shouldnt be hard at all to see where im coming from or trace my progression clearly which should be a pretty sufficient summary from what i remember that i posted while reading his posting

this is a simplified compilation of things ive essentially talked about at points, but

look for like, actual reads or sorting from varsoon
not mechanical talk, but actual reads

anyone who townreads him is essentially letting him slip by off of his mechanics talk, and i originally townread? it but it's not hard to fake at all once i think more about it

and when you read more deeply into his mechanics stuff it's basically just "oh here's the neighborhood, i outed because i think there's a wolf in here i think, actually, there's a chance that there arent any wolves here and here's the probability and here are 20 reasons why" or smtg which is basically just useless and i cant even tell what he's supposed to be trying to say so no i dont see a stance to agree on

wagonomics ish talk below

b) i want to note for clarity that he might not even be my current scumread rn as im switching back and forth between leodanny and varsoon

but in terms of general stuff thats happened leodanny is like a varsoon 2.0 of this game

i scumread them off a similar premis where they were posting a lot and had a pretty noticable thread presence but after a more in depth look no content or solving
a wagon suddenly appeared on them after i tried pushing my uncomfort there for a bit, and soon they were really high up in votes
that original high posting high impact at point 1 is gone and they immediately drop in activity/wim/confidence and panic and go into posting to try to survive mode

the leodanny wagon is great and i support it, but varsoon was pressured, he responded terribly, and the pressure just went away and i think it's very important and am officially asking that some of the peopel who were originally on his wagon and ditched to at least maintain some of that pressure

(also while on the topic of wagons, the way his wagon just disappeared when another started emerging is nagl imo)

c) also if there's anything that stops me from just totally trusting you/putting you in the town core it's your unwavering defense and confidence in varsoon? like his wagon has been a prominent thing and youre arguing against it without budging and i'd expect you to at least reconsider or be somewhat paranoid or have at least some doubt with the amount of reasons that are being put forth against him because the basis for your defense on him is fairly weak from what ive read and if he flips wolf i turn straight to you

If I am somehow wrong about Varsoon, how does that make me wolf?

And this is somehow unusual for me to do as town?

There was a large wagon against town!you in God knows how many games, I’ve played with you. Did you consider it scummy that I stuck to my guns and hard defended you, despite other players disagreeing with me?

Because I don’t really believe you find this scummy from me. I always put my own reads above anything else. This post is pinging me a bit.

I guess you’re right... but then she votes sheep? Her actions and words seem to be doing two different things.

The thing with Hebi, is that she is one of the most frequently wrongly scumread players on this site and based on other games I’ve played with her and only one time was she scum - nothing about her play so far, strikes me as any different from any of her other towngames.

i have you as strong town but our reads in a lot of places are pretty opposite

I’m not great at reading Varsoon, unless he obvtowns it but I don’t think I’m seeing scum!him so far, based on the games I’ve played with him. Scum!Varsoon from what I remember, tends to be more agressive in pushing mislynches. Obviously I could be wrong about this but if he’s scum here, than he’s playing differently than he usually does as scum.

As for Hebi, she isn’t playing any differently this game, then in every towngame, I’ve played with her in. In the one game she was scum in, she made a suspicious naked vote on a scum partner, which seemed to come out of the blue.

And your sheep on Ausuka reads more like an OMGUS than an actual read. You had no basis to vote Kokichi, based on the reasoning you gave, so claiming to sheep a vote that’s really an OMGUS, is really sketchy.

Thing with Nancy is we just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it.

Given that how does any of it make sense?

It's not hard to make up reads?

He just seems awkward. I'm not scumreading him because everything now looks like his play was for the sake of tpr not wanting to draw NK

In Minuet, we had a Mafia Jailkeep, remember? Claiming JK doesn’t make him town.

He cannot give reads as a tpr? Since when?

And not even 3 townreads? How does that hurt him at all as town? And why act so defensive about the request?

Sure, anyone can fake reads but isn’t that HOW we sort people in Mafia?

He doesn’t have to be so scummy, to not draw NK. No one is expecting him to obvtown it, just to do even the minimal that is townie. Why is that so unreasonable to you?

Nothing whatsoever about his actual claim is scummy but the reaction following it, is. How dare PB ask him to give 3 reads? Like . . . what is the issue with that? And claiming to sheep a vote, on a slot that just happens to br scumreading you, is really sketchy too.

I mean he could be obvmislynchbait but his reaction to the reads’ request, doesn’t read townie to me. It also isn’t easy for scum to fake reads. It is in fact, one of the hardest things to do as scum, because you know, you can’t give real reads. Not giving reads or really questionable ones, like his weird Kokichi vote, is far more likely to come from scum than town, IMO.

There's no benefit to scum not wanting you to claim.

Can you reconcile this?

Even if it could have scum, that doesn't mean that it does.
I outted the hood because
1. IF there is scum there, then any info we share there is not safe from being stolen.
2. IF there is scum there, ya'll can PoE figure out who scum is later in the game.
3. Regardless of if there is scum there or not, it becomes incredibly obvious when 4 people are having out-of-main-thread discussion; any decent player would realize we have some sort of alternate means of interaction, which may get us falsely scumread. Even basic players catch on to this and get suspicious of players who seem to have info they don't/interactions that they haven't seen.
4. The game thread itself, on the other hand, is guaranteed to have the usual ratio of town to non-town alignments. Hunting there should be our priority, as if we're wrong about scum being in the neighborhood, we PoE ourselves into a sunk-cost 4-town-mislynch.

Does that make sense?
How many times do I have to write this out?

But he unvoted right after the claim? I think the reads question to Leo is a decent one, no?

Between the two of them, I’m more concerned with sheep telling him not to claim at - was it at L-1 or L-2?

Because obviously, waiting until L-1, can get you hammered.

But if Leo is actually scum here, than that would totally flip this around. I like Single for town, because he wants to wait a day, because of Leo hardclaim, which I think is a good idea. We don’t want to mislynch a hardclaimed PR but I think PB isn’t wrong to be skeptical of Leo’s claim either.

But I could definitely see Leo as being the usual town mislynchbait too. \_0_/

And it’s his ONLY post in the entire game, so far.

Lynching Gamma doesn't sound like the worst idea ever. Rest of those reads: similarish to mine. Leaning less scum on Kokichi yet because I really don't know how to read him yet. And a less town on Heib, and even Ausuka. And regarding Nancy, I still need to figure out what's going on with the neighbourhood. > still say policy lynching death millers is good praxis
Cheekyteeky discussing the mod's ethics page 1 (12) when we all know xyzzy has none is... probably irrelevant but I'll note it down anyway.
Varsoon comes in (15)... criticising RVS votes (?!) and claims the neighbourhood. 99.9% confirmed by lack of CCs. this is NAI scum and town have equal motive to out it.
more RVS...

Found TheBrie's 28 odd as I misread it first time round ( ), but without that oddness her first couple posts seem broadly similar to her style in grits (she was town iirc)
32 (GEmerald): I really think that death miller isn't out of character for this mod buuuuut in any case policy lynch is likely the best option.
34 technically true but neighbourhoods far more often than not have at least one scum and lynching strong scumreads in the neighbourhood is good townie praxis.
39 lurkers are bad policy lynches early on
varsoon (49) pings me. "I outed the neighbourhood but we shouldn't use it in scumhunting" comes across as cautious scum outing the neighbourhood for helpful townie cred? profii (57) makes this obvious point.
58 pingy too, everything varsoon says is technically correct if you misconstrue the idea of neighbourhood-membership as mildly indicative of scum when you already have a scumread on someone as "we have to lynch within the neighbourhood".

96 (cheekyteeky) - no, entering with a vote is def NAI, entering in RVS trying to read shit all is slightly scum leaning but imho this is standard for thebrie, and 97-98 looks townie.
121 and 124 are basically my thought process RE varsoon in the first couple pages.
varsoon (128) claims the thing abt lynching independent of the hood's existence - again - and I still disagree with it based on my analysis re post 58 (because you're not trying to scumhunt independently you're trying to direct people away, profii makes this point in 144). 129 is pure AtE but I can see it coming from town or scum.
studying past games with hoods will only get you so far, why not analyse the game you're playing (GEmerald, varsoon, posts 145 through 168)

wagonomics (170, 325, 418) how do you calculate your wagon value scores? (327 is okay but I wanna see the maths)

there's so much fluff in this game I feel like I'm in a wool factory. cheeky and brie are town
225 I'm feeling fine with a miller policy lynch on this
230, 232 (nancy drew) is town ish
wisdoms entire ISO is so low energy I hate it (and also hate 817 lynching fast D1 is objectively bad)
282 is kinda crap too discounting information is always anti-town

vax's entry (292) is in character probs NAI
nancy drew (303) I agree with from the prespective of that being an easy vote for lurking scum to make, good analysis. 304 not so though vax is NAI there.
346 - iirc theta wasn't as indecisive as this D1 when she was my partner in grits so I'm gonna town read this for now, but she could still be scum hedging here so don't discount this.
354, 355 (gemerald, cheeky) is the same reason I don't like wagonomics, in that these wagon value posts are just aggregates of everyone elses votes, and don''t actually contribute to the discussion or push for action.

381 (hebi) - easy wagon comment would feel scummy from anyone else but this is my third or fourth time playing with her and I'm gonna let it slide as NAI for her.
414 has a strong point from ausuka about gemerald but she surely cant be serious on wagonomics.
419 is effectively the debut post of wagonomics info-wise. And it tells us... not much. Still not contributing anything other than value scores it seems anyone could calculate. Could be not_mafia memeing us in which case I'd be quite happy to kill him.
433 (vax) - entirely the opposite of why I was scum reading varsoon there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
465 (cheeky) - one thing I've seen about newbies, is that newbie town often looks REALLY scummy. More often than newbscum even (when I was new to mafia I was a perfect example of this, I could kinda blend in as scum but as town I was floundering and clueless).
466 (partyboat) echoes my thoughts exactly, but see the above.
467 - I love the character in purely flavour terms, but for the purposes of the actual game I haaaaaaate having to try and get reads from this. Stuff like this is bad townie praxis y'all.
476 nah sheep is weak-ish town at this point varsoon is scummy

PSA, since a couple of people have said this: imho fast early days are shit, early days generate banks of information which can be used to look for associative tells, groups of actors and just trends of posts in general that are super useful after you have a couple flips for sorting the wheat from the scum, whereas quick lynches prevent the collection of information that can be analysed especially when you have low energy posters that would likely be policy lynched.
(ofc intense, detailed early days are more difficult to catch up on for us idiots who forget about the game for a week but thats not the point)

TheBrie (512) makes the point that potato's posts are largely derivative, but again, I firmly believe this is a newbtown trait people like to jump on as scummy, and I'm super suspicious of all the people completely okay with this lynch!
And in 520 sheep echoes my thoughts on varsoon. But I fully dislike the idea that his playstyle is similar to potato's, varsoon is scummy because he backpedalled away from talking about the neighbourhood the moment he thought being in it made him look scummy. And the potato was obvtown. 523 thereby is the definition of a bad take.
hebi's sheep vote (530) is also not good. I think its blatantly obvious how varsoon responded badly.
partyboat - 543 - suggests voting... the obvious wagon and two players who've hardly contributed. Which does not give me happy feelings at all.....
and then nancy (553) buddies him. This actually is interesting and I'm keeping a note of this

The Brie (560) seems actually reluctant to vote for the potato and I'm not sure whether in a "don't blame me when we mislynch" way or a genuine way. Which is a shame as I was building a pretty strong townread on that slot
600 - O B V I O U S N E W B I E T O W N
Since I'm seeing it discussed around here hebi is 95% town
612 and 614 - okay yh the potato is being super anti-town newbie here i'll concede this
650 is baaaaa'd the claim was a newbie claim, for a clearly inexperienced player claiming jailkeep at l-2 with a rapidly building wagon is perfectly fine.
kokichi makes a lot of low info posts
752 & 757 wagonomics needs to go. I'll be sad to see the back of these posts but he doesn't benefit town in any way
778 finally the potato posts reads... aaaaaaand they're not at all out of the mainstream. Not sure I agree yet on an ausuka TR
sheep's list (800) is reasonable bar scum reading hebi
There is not seriously a 4 person masonry. I'd almost believe this as scum team claiming a masonry y'know
and 844 (party boat) just reads weird after the masonry claim, in that he's still pretty insistent it's a neighbourhood and acting as if there's the possibility of multiple factions in it.
849 theta's CC seems genuine and I think two jailkeepers isn't unrealistic

Aaaaaaaaaand thats D1 over. The potato was objectively a shit lynch, even after the CC, but based on their posts 46 through 439 (and thats 40 separate posts) I understand the temptation to push the easy lynch, literally all of those posts were fluff, IIOA or questions about general gameplay/wording that could've be answered by a cursory look at the wiki. BUT - this is somewhere I think scum would have been able to push with relatively little fear of backlash and I think it would be pertinent to look at who was really pushing this wagon, or who was sheeping without any real reason to.

Holy shit this post reads like my economics notes

I’m in an actual neighbourhood, not a masonry and not a scum team.

I agree, I didn’t view it as TMI either. I often make statements such as I don’t want to mislynch X and sometimes get accused of that, when it’s obviously based on a read. And even if scum, without any NAs, since this comment was made on D1, how could he possibly know what her role is, if town?

wagonomics after the claim
Weak town
the brie
sheep
nancy drew
singletonking (I guess? this is barely more than null)
ausuka (my gut was scum but I don't trust my gut)
Eh
vaxkiller

kokichi
Weak scum
purrcocet (again... barely more than null)
party boat
gamma emerald
0verkill
xtoxm
Scum
jaylow (his one post was godawful)
vonflare (this one is for the death miller claim then disappearing, should policy lynch if we don't decide on anyone else)
varsoon

I can read Purrcocet fairly well and I feel pretty confident, they are never scum here.

Thing with Nancy is we just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it.

P.edit. @ganski, your reads can’t be right if you have 3/4 of the neighbourhood as scum.

yh I realised this as I was doing it. either one of my weak scum options on this is town (which is why I would want to lynch in strong scum and try to get more info before lynching weak reads) OR have you considered the possibility (if this is multiball which I think is very likely) that the neighbourhood is structured like: 2 scum team A, 1 scum team B, 1 townie?

Well, I might if the neighbourhood didn’t seem like it was the only one in the game. It’s literally just called “neighbourhood” and nothing else, which leads me to believe that it really is just a neighbourhood. I have no idea how all of the neighbours were chosen - was it random or deliberate?

In post 1111, TheBrie wrote:My comment of when to lynch Theta was strangely relevant considering I hadn't read recently. As a btw, my general feeling on Theta was town, but continuing to assume town as the game goes on, is too high a risk. The reason I think it was a genuine CC, is because Leo probably would have been lynched without it, so scum wouldn't be stupid enough to CC. Unless it's some weird town-cred gambit, that i really don't see coming from Theta.

I like trekkie's entrance and analysis, though he does seem to have been a bit stuck on getting that answer from Emerald. Agree about Vonfalre's claim seeming genuine.

I'm was liking Kokichi better than I did before, as he's at least doing a good job of explaining some of his actions. But reading the older posts makes me doubt again. It's interesting to note that Sheep is defending him now, and they were town reading each other on the previous day. They were both talking about Leo a lot, but didn't really interact with each other much.
Xtoxm hasn't really explained why he thinks Kokichi is scum, or why anyone is on his purge list. His play style annoys me. And Varsoon is just sheeping xtoxm.
I still am confused by both of them claiming the neighbourhood is a masonry, and Nancy saying that it's not.

In post 1466, Party Boat wrote:Flavors posting has been fine so far but I don't see anything that couldn't come from scum just genuinely looking for another scumteam

I can elaborate on this later if anyone wants but I really really dislike varsoon trying to excuse his earlier lurking/bad play with the cop claim when he was claiming it, and considering how adamant he seemed about sheep being scum and that his reason for claiming it was 'proving me wrong' about people being willing to vote sheep I really don't see why sheep claiming vanilla would give varsoon a town read on him - I think it's more likely that varsoon originally thought sheep was probable other scumteam and the unvote after the unclaim was just to try to stay alive when his claim started to fall apart.

actually i have one more thing I want to add to this

Most of the Varsoon/Gemerald conversation right as varsoon replaced out I think WAS genuine on varsoon's part but was also based on shit that is not relevant to varsoon's alignment (varsoon being genuinely upset about gemerald's 'as a person you're worse than me' comment)

Like the only reason I think could be legit to read varsoon as town for replacing out there is just: it would be shitty of varsoon to botch a fakeclaim as scum and then dump it on a replacement.
But I also think regardless of his alignment that varsoon has both not really been into this game and didn't want to deal with Gemerald negatively, and I kind of doubt he'd take this into serious consideration compared to those first two things but he also could have thought as scum that he was almost certainly going to get lynched for fakeclaiming and botching it if he stayed in the game but there'd be a reasonable chance of a replacement turning things around for his playerslot/team.

Botched being the operative word, here. I dunno, I’ve never faked a guilty ever. Anyway, I’m pretty sure sheep is always town here and I believe his vt claim.

Catching up on the game, and this post here gives some town credit to both Theta and Wisdom.

I agree, Theta likely doesn’t cc as scum, and Wisdom then goes to gamma, not who theta CC’d, meaning he wasn’t even trying to mislynch someone.

Wisdom is someone I try not to throw out a town read on, because I’m always paranoid of him.

Town!varsoon outs the hood for... what reason? Its useful to know who's in it but surely that negates it's usefulness to a town player for in-hood reads. Someone hmo on this one

I hard disagree with this.

I’ve done so much damage as scum in neighborhoods by keeping it closed off.

Ask Gamma.

I had a mod create a day Neighborizer role, and they Neighborizer scum me Day 1, and the mod in the spectator thread goes “well, there goes my unique role.”

This was just Light trying to create some weak mislynch case way back then.

It is completely NAI to put a neighborhood like that. Especially considering Varsoon didn’t even go after his neighborhood. He was actively giving the rest of the game more information.

In post 1519, Flavor Leaf wrote:Wisdom/Ausuka are a step below my other town reads because they actively were going against Varsoon wagon, albeit indirectly.

I’m going to make an estimated guess of Light, Sheep, Hebichan. I feel I’m getting pretty close with the money.

@Hebi - you’ve been off site for a bit, so you probably won’t see that for a while, but let’s do this buddy system thing again. This time, you can be the last scum standing.

Scum!sheep doesn’t fake this kind of outrage.

Thing with Nancy is we just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it.

u should feel bad for pocketing someone as innocent as ND39

Purr, he isn’t pocketing me. I’m simply good at reading him based off of tone.

kokichi isn't a day 3 ic, lol.

tone reading is bad in general

.....

Kokichi was IC mayor in Starcraft 1 and he claimed Day 2 or 3 IC, iiirc.

Tell me how Wisdom’s play here reminds you of FH.

I disagree wrt to tonereading. It is extremely accurate with some players. Sheep is a really good example of this. His tone is completely different as scum. I had trouble reading him at first but after playing numerous games with him, I figured out that he was readable by tone.

And like I keep saying, he is tonally town here

I was tr Varsoon but FL is pulling the same kind of crap on me, he did in Overkill 2 and he’s never fucking fooling me again.

I’m referring to the hood. This is a big part of why I want to replace out, ever since Varsoon replaced out. :(

Am I allowed to direct quote from the neighbourhood? Yes or no? I want everyone to know exactly the kind of shit, FL is trying to pull in our hood.

If he have the audacity to post here what he did in there, he’d be quicklynched in no time flat but he thinks he can pressure me and threaten me into sr sheep and it ain’t fucking happening FL. You aren’t scaring me but I’m uberpissed that you really thought I was that fucking stupid, that you could get away with this crap, twice in a row.

I played with town!you in YGM and you never once tried to pull this shit on me. It’s not fucking working, so get the fuck off of me!
