There are times when scum accidentally reveal their inside information in posts. Very rarely are those kind of slips apparent other than in hindsight and noticed in game. More commonly those kind of slips are often confused with town just being weird and people taking that weirdness as proof that the player is scum.

August 2015.

Real scumslips are extremely rare, and as others have mentioned involve a scum exposing specific knowledge they shouldn't have, that goes beyond something that a town player could reasonably be guessing at, and also not be information that a player could possibly have gained from a real town role. In Steven Universe mafia, one of my scumbuddies slipped info about the role of another member of our scumteam, that she thought had already gone public, but hadn't. This was caught and led to their back to back lynches, splitting the game wide open.

viewtopic.php?p=7138648#p7138648

I see accusations of scumslips thrown around all to frequently and they are basically always wrong, and most of the time the accused is town (as statistics would dictate if there is no solid basis behind it). A scumslip should only be considered after careful research to exclude all other reasonable possibilities has occurred.

Well, Creature wasn't as big of a scumread for Thor as Loop, but still. The only thing that can justify his vote is if he thought that Loop was bussing his scumpartner Blank. But I don't remember Thor saying that.

Yeah, Hark and Thor were partners. Nobody in the game noticed (including me to my shame) but it was caught in the dead thread.

I'm just observing how I see the post working from a town perspective potentially. It's really easy to say that it was a scumslip because of the guy's flip... but those kind of assumptions can easily lead to bad future results. (Like if you see a townie make a similar post in a future game.)

FTR: When I read that post there were various things I found scummy, but that particular part of the post was not one of them.

One time in my career, back in I think early 2017. A scum in their first post of the game said something that made it clear they were unaware of the level of information that was contained in every townie’s role pm (in an OPEN SETUP)
One minute later I was dunking on him and he was overwhelming consensus d1 lynch
D2 I got mislynched because a loud player decided to drown the thread in toxicity and then blame me for it. Fun times

Were there sample role PMs in the opening post?

If you're scum, you should really read those in an Open. (And even in a Normal, you should read the sample VT PM.)

None in site, neither here or in the ToS forums. Most of the time, people have enough time to think things through. With mostly vanilla roles most slips are easy to fake.
Although in epic mafia when i rolled cop, a mafia member actually outed me as his inno when counterclaiming me. Had a few chuckles in dead chat.

I recall seeing one or two townslips in different games, but not things that were confirmable/couldn’t be faked. Any actual scum slips tend to come from scum who’ve messed up their fakeclaims, which is relatively common. I’ve never seen scum just casually spill their inside knowledge over a thread and people who assumed they’ve seen scum slips of that nature are likely just misunderstanding another player’s word choice. There probably are rare times a scum player actually does slip up in how they phrase things, but that’s irrelevant when town players do it plenty as well.

N2 – Protected borkjerkfin. I was getting the same kind of vibes that KK was, but after the Mitillos flip I knew they were either just misread or fabricated.
N3 – I actually protected KK again N3…same reason as above and I didn’t have a better alternative. I told you I’m bad at this.
This was on D3.

More surprising is that nobody except for the dead caught it, despite a huge amount of reread time (the game ended up in an NL/NK cycle and the mod didn't have a tiebreak; eventually town got bored first).

That said, it took me a while to work out what was wrong, too (I was looking for subtle things and missing the obvious).

My guess is he should've chosen his n2 target if he had to repeat for n3?

There had not been an N3 yet. This claim came on D3.
