There are no replacement requests to carry over & slots are filling within a couple of hours - I'm therefore not keeping up the template I've been doing for the last couple of pages.

When demand rises, I will resume the template.

Slots are still filling very fast - when demand rises, I will resume using the template from a few pages ago.

edit: the slot carried over has filled. small spike in requests yesterday but once again they mostly filled. :)

This is timely! I've been dwelling on an idea for a while, and in consultation our former queue manager Ariel agreed it could help.

There has been a long-held rule that egoposts in the Replacement Queue will be removed for sake of clarity / de-clutter. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only reason the rule is in place - to make the replacement queue easier to read, and easier to manage. And honestly, it makes a lot of sense on that basis.

This does, however, have the unfortunate downside that players who do not mod games (and newer players) are unable to egopost the Replacement Queue, and will (in theory) be slower to notice requests being posted.

Effective today, I'll be making an interim amendment to the Replacement Queue rule about egoposting. I hope that through timely management on my part, I'll be able to keep the queue managed in a way that is still clean and legible enough to still run as well as it has been.

Hey all! A little change which some of you may have already noticed. :shifty:

We have created a dedicated channel in the official Discord for replacement request posting - #mafia-replacements. Please allow me a moment to wax poetic, before I get into policy changes. I've taken a fairly straight-forward philosophical approach to the Replacement Queue management process: filling slots quickly = reduced impact on game flow/integrity via replace-outs. At its core, this means two things:
  • Replacements need to get into interested parties' faces as promptly as possible. Achieving this means that slots are more likely to be yoinked quickly. So we should use any tools at our disposal to keep this thread relevant (e.g. egosearch, and more recently, the official Discord).
  • Replacement Queue simplicity and professionalism means that players will have a better, less confusing, replacement experience. This means they're more likely to take up open slots. This means correctly filling out forms, and promptly updating filled requests. I will monitor this as closely as I can, but I really appreciate game mods who update their own requests once filled.

To that end, we have our new shiny
#mafia-replacements
channel!

This thread will still remain the main source of Replacement request postings. However, the server will act as a second (optional) method of approaching users. The rules for using #mafia-replacements will be as follows:
  • One post per slot vacancy. Please make a post in the Replacement Queue thread first.
  • Do not bump in the Discord queue (I will occasionally bump old/overlooked requests at my discretion).
  • Once the slot is taken, update your forum post and
    delete
    the Discord post.
  • No chatting or responses in the thread, or the channel; keep that private.

I'll be rolling out the following updated replacement queue rules shortly. If you have any feedback, as always, keep it out of this thread. Feel free to shoot me a DM, or say hi on Discord. I don't think this will be a contentious change, but if folks wanna talk about it, I'll make an MD thread. :)

Replacement Requests Thread


This thread is for moderators to announce requests for a replacement of a player in a game that they are moderating, and for interested players to find games in which to replace into. This thread is for games ran through all queues exception for Newbie Games, for which replacements should be announced in the Newbie Game Queue.

Thank you game moderators for volunteering to run games as well as replacements for offering to replace into slots.

Posting a Replacement Request
- Please use this form to generate a replacement request. Alternately, you may use the following BBcode in a new post. To ensure replacements can easily parse your request, please ensure you update all details including the game URL.

Updating a Replacement Request
- Remember to clearly indicate that your request has been filled when you accept a replacement offer, via either replying to your original request stating the replacement is no longer needed, or editing your original request and striking it through. If a new page has been made since your request, please close your request in a new post instead of editing the original post. If you need more replacements for the same game, you may quote the original request and post the new version underneath, adding any additional players needed.

Bumping a Replacement Request
- You may bump your request if you feel it is necessary, but please do so in moderation. Also note that I will compile all open replacement requests at or near the start of each new page.

Order of Replacements
- Replacements from the same game should be replaced in the order in which they were replaced out (whether from request or forced replacement). Furthermore, players do not decide which slot they replace if there is more than one option. They absolutely may never be told the alignment or other role information of a player before replacing in. (As with most game-related rules, this may be overridden by a specific Theme game rule specified prior to the start of the game, but this may not be done retroactively. Exceptions do not apply to Normal or Open games.)

Suitability of Replacements
- Make sure a player is suitable for the job before you accept them. Raw newbies might not fare well with 100-page Large Themes nor might players already in seven other games. Hydra accounts may not play in Normal games.

Advertising Replacements in Discord
- You may use the official Discord server, using the #mafia-replacements channel (or I will do so on your behalf, as soon as practical). The following guidelines apply to posting requests in the Discord server:
  • One post per slot vacancy. Please make a post in the Replacement Queue thread first.
  • Do not bump in the Discord queue (I will occasionally bump old/overlooked requests at my discretion).
  • Once the slot is taken, update your forum post and
    delete
    the Discord post.
  • No chatting or responses in thread; keep it private.


Players
Replacing Into a Game
- Please send a private message to the moderator of the game in which you are interested.

Player Requirements
- Please keep in mind Game Moderators have the right to impose any restrictions, and may deny any replacement offer at their discretion, within reason. In addition, please be comfortable joining the game you are offering to replace into. Remember, this is a slot that has already had to go through at least 1 replacement, try not make it go through another by replacing out yourself in the future.

Ego-posts
- As of 26 September 2020, the Replacement Queue is allowing egoposts from players. This means that you may make a single post so that this thread appears in your egosearch ("View your posts" display). This post should not reference an open replacement request - please PM the game moderator with any questions.

announcementHey all! Thanks for using the Replacement Queue, and for all the work most folks are putting into adhering to the form structure, and editing in your own replacements. You all make this job very easy for me, and I appreciate it a tonne. I've been running with this queue since December 2018, and while the changes have mostly been pretty superficial, I feel like everyone has embraced them really well. From sporadic micromanagement of the queue when we had 507 replacements in 14 seconds all of a sudden, to introducing player egoposts, to creating a #discord-replacements channel in the Discord server, it's been a blast. Without proper buy-in from the Mafia community, these changes would have meant nothing - but because of y'all, this queue runs like clockwork.

So it is with a heavy heart and a tear in my eye that I announce that I'm planning to step down from this position over the next few months. It's been a blast, but I'm finding more and more that I'm focused on other things, and less attentive towards this thread. The flip-side to this is that players have been so delightful about taking slots, and game mods have been so great at updating their replacement postings, that things are still ticking along beautifully. So while I'm not in a position where I direly need to depart from the role, I think this is a great opportunity to find a new and improved custodian.

If you would be interested in taking over the Replacement Queue, and are keen for a chance to bring some passion and diligence to administering this much-needed part of the site, please reach out to me privately by DM or Discord!
