Spoiler: Response to Arch RE - config changes
In post 20594, davesaz wrote:Strongly disagree with letting wizards target creepers. Don't need more random holes in the landscape even if they are outside claimed areas.
Fair. I honestly didn't notice that wizards were included in that config, I just saw a situation where summoned minions would refuse to attack Creepers and understood as a player I would go "what gives spell-buddy?!"
I found wizard tower rarity to be ok. Making them more rare makes them harder to find, but finding them is important to progression.
Not particularly. Crystal ore (and Crystal flowers) are incredibly common; I didn't touch those numbers at all. As for trading for spells/better wands, mob combat and looting achieves the same end, and with other dimensions both of those things are now easier and less invasive. If you feel that strongly about it, I'd counter that the numbers were a bit high as they were: towers appeared roughly every biome, which I don't think is intended, and I think structures like that (even if important for progression) should be a joy to find, not a
predictable
find. Regardless, I can drop it down to 10 or 11 - e.g. make them more common but not as common as they were. Does that work?
Undergarden is the nether biome that has grass and trees. I'm ok with it.
Strongly prefer saying no to the nether biomes that are mostly soul sand and flesh (corrupted sands and visceral heap)
I like Undergarden too, I've got it enabled. And I agree on Visceral Heap, gross. But I'll fight you on Corrupted Sands. Soul Sand
in Vanilla
is too uncommon, IMO, and the number of uses for it in a magic modpack cannot be understated. We really need a good reliable source for it, en masse, especially if we're adding other things to the Nether which can choke out Soul Sand generation.
BoP features: quicksand, poison pools, poison ivy off, if still configurable
I'm not seeing a config for individual BoP "features", but I can tell you I've disabled all the biomes I could find with Quicksand. Poison is another thing entirely; too many of the more interested biomes (especially the more interesting Swamp/Forest biomes) have those, and we want some variety in our world for many reasons. I've changed my opinion on some of these after looking at the BoP wiki, and I'll update the Sheet with the biomes I included in the release configs.
Without tech to find them directly (digi miner, quarry) I find diamonds to be too rare. Nearly a month and
total
diamonds found was about 40 after making swiss cheese of two areas about 50-80 chunks in size each. Less than 10 in stock. I was worried about being able to make repairs.
Hmmm. I haven't added COFH, but I will do that today and look into buffing Vanilla ore sizes. FTR, according to comments Large Veins's build MC version is 1.12 and it
does not
work in 1.12.2, which I think is ridiculous but it means if our intent was to buff oregen we need another way to do it.
I can put the pack on Curse when ready. Is there a plan to test any more?
I can do it also? Up to you, or if there's some hoop I'd have to jump through that you've already bypassed, I can upload to Drive and you take it to Curse, either way.

Config reversions/tweaks for v9.1.0R
:

(Bumped version to v9.1.xR after addition of COFH stuff btw)
(BIG update to BoP biomes on the Google Sheet! Check it out plz!)
(COFH config underway. Update on that soon...)

Biomes of Plenty Creeper Confetti
  • increased chance from 10% to 25%
EB's Wizardry
  • reverted aggression towards Creepers discussed in
  • decreased rarity of wizard towers from 13 to 10
PEDIT: I can as you say Arch and upload an SP world or I can use the generator string I found above to do it worldwide to a new server world; I don't think it rly matters which way we go, but from my PoV it takes longer to start and restart SP worlds and upload those than it does to shut down server, delete world, try new world, repeat, etc. so I'd prefer to do this all server-side. It also involves less uploading/downloading which just sounds safer to me. If Quicksand is in Vanilla Deserts (I forgot that), I definitely want it gone worldwide.

A look at what I'm dealing with now as I configure COFH to take control of all ore spawning...

Image

Really it's only doing Vanilla, Thermal Foundation's ores/clathretes, and that's it. But I'm turning off anything that would add duplicate Copper/Tin/etc. so I need to rip apart the world and see what actually does that. I think it's mainly Embers I need to worry about, but we shall see.

(a.k.a. The One Where Maestro Sees If The Server Blows Up)

(Bumped version to v9.1.1R after completion of COFH configs and revision of some others - see below)
(Check out the update to BoP biomes on the Google Sheet if you haven't already)

Astral Sorcery
  • after research, locked in compatibility between AS and Hunting Dim - and added Twilight as well
  • bumped Marble generation after disabling Chisel Marble
FTBUtilities
  • "explosions and hostile mobs in spawn area will be disabled, players won't be able to attack each other in spawn area"
  • set the "spawn area" mentioned above to 16 -
must remember to set spawn protection to 0 in server.properties!

  • disabled chunk claiming in "hostile dimensions" - you can see what I defined as a "hostile dimension" if you click the link in the title of this post (this was done because in those dimensions it is more likely to be used as pseudo-protection against hostile forces, and it can really mess up DimDoors' puzzle pocket dimensions) chunk claiming should rly be for bases and other permanent player structures (or the intent of those happening in the near future), not for literally staking a claim in the wilderness to an attractive loot opportunity or something you don't want anybody else to be able to have (I would hope that that isn't a controversial statement)
  • specifically left the Twilight Forest, the Aether, and the Hunting Dimension off the above blacklist - I imagine the Hunting Dimension will have some player structures for farming of mobs, etc. and I bet the Aether/Twilight Forest will be a popular place for players to move into pre-genned structures...
HuntingDim
  • enabled peaceful mob spawning
  • changed generation to "mimic surface world"
  • after my experience earlier with oregen, I also lowered Rustic's Slate generation (there's a lot... and it's not very useful) and Thaumcraft's ore ratio (I had it set to double, but that's wholly unnecessary)
Spoiler: COFH Oregen Changes
Dirt now stops generating underground at y=45
Gravel now stops generating underground at y=35

Coal Ore
- cluster size/#: 20/20 (from 17/20)
+17%

Iron Ore
- cluster size/#: 12/22 (from 9/20)
+47%

Gold Ore
- cluster size/#: 12/4 (from 9/2)
+167%

Redstone Ore
- cluster size/#: 10/10 (from 8/8)
+56%

Diamond Ore
- cluster size/#: 8/4 (from 8/1)
+300%

Emerald Ore
- cluster size/#: 2/3-8 (from 1/3-6)
+100-167%
Fun Fact: Emerald generates with even more randomness than other ores!

Lapis Ore
- cluster size/#: 9/3 (from 7/1)
+286%

Nether Quartz Ore tweaked to cluster size/# 24/12 (from 14/16) +29%
  1. Quartz veins now appear larger but more spread out; finding them is more of a return on your risk in the Nether
  2. Quartz generation is already wonky because the Nether is wonky
  3. Quartz generation is buffed indirectly (in the Overworld, no less) with Thaumcraft
Gold Ore in Mesa biomes bumped...
significantly

Copper
- cluster size/#: 10/10 (from 8/8)
+56%

  • Copper (ocean): 10/3 (from 8/4)
    -6%

  • Copper (high altitude): 10/8 (from 8/8)
    +25%
Tin
- cluster size/#: 10/8 (from 8/7)
+43%

Silver
- cluster size/#: 9/6 (from 8/4)
+69%

Lead
- cluster size/#: 6/8 (from 6/4)
+100%

  • 20% of all Silver spawns as Lead
  • 10% of all Lead spawns as Silver
  • buffed Lead because of extensive use in Embers
Nickel
- cluster size/#: 5/3 (from 4/2)
+88%

Might need to look at Aluminum oregen, but for now it's not an issue.

We can add IRC, idk about Discord

Lava-Basalt from Chisel is enabled

I don’t think we have a single lava pump or use for a single lava pump in the pack; there’s no tech. But also, what Klaz said. Use the actual chunkloaders we have?

I'm talking to Chevre now. He's the admin of the MS Discord. He's setting up 2 text channels there for us under "special topics"; one for Vanilla chat and discussion and one for Modded. Once I figure out how to configure this thing for SP9 I'll toss together the mini-server-pack for Vanilla. ETL, you wanted Morpheus, Nether Portal Fix, and if we can have Discord you'd want that? Would anybody be opposed?

PEDIT: It's done!

Please do not download the mods! A much easier, streamlined, single-download pack will be available. I wasn't going to
make
it available until everything was worked out, however. Patience.

Yeah, I'll be around late tonight and uploading server files/looking at our spawn if server doesn't explode.

The Aether Legacy mod we have is a mod by those who liked the old Aether, as in not Aether II which is in very early development. Aether II took a much more RPG-style approach to the mod, IIRC, and Aether Legacy is more about the open-world-opposite-of-the-Nether idea... and I feel like that's more in our wheelhouse (and my wheelhouse), not to mention I don't want to use an early alpha build of something like Aether II, no-thank-you.

MODDED UPDATE
:

Pack download on the Google Sheet is update and that's what we're going with for now. Any of the experienced modded players can offer help to those who need it, and Arch will be uploading to the Twitch Launcher for ease-of-installation.
  • Removed Dimensional Doors since it was causing a semi-persistent fatal disconnect for clients that shouldn't have even been possible... one of the mod's devs agreed with me on this and didn't have any idea how to help fix it, so until something changes there this can't be in the pack
  • Added VanillaFix to help even more with lag/load time etc., there's a link on the Sheet if you want
Server should be up by the time you read this.
If spawn really sucks we may take it down to reroll the world, but I doubt it.

Remember to update to Forge .2807!

Ok, HOPEFULLY the last thing: remove Morph. There are no Morph abilities in 1.12.2, which means it was purely aesthetic anyway, and 2 players who have killed mobs on server have crashed thanks to the mod. Bye bye broken shit, hello HOPEFULLY stable server.

Forgot to mention, we have a couple rules on our MC servers, not sure if you knew:
(These are kindof my take on our "official rules" as well as some unspoken ones we've kindof assumed people knew not to do...)

  1. Don't be a jerk.
  2. Don't build ugly stuff.
  3. No griefing or stealing, and try not to loot everything you see. See #1.
  4. Don't do things that could mess up the server(s) in any way. See #1.
  5. If you're unsure if what you want to do might break a rule, just ask.
If you or anyone you vouch for breaks those rules (and we can easily find out who griefed/stole/whatever on modded servers, with logging of all types of player actions), we reserve the right to ban you from whatever server(s) we want. Ask anybody who's been around long enough what happened with Xalxe, izakthegoomba, and chesskid3. Just be nice!

Basically, this. If you don’t go out of your way to make something look horrendous or to make the landscape into an eyesore, you’re fine.

Sorry, that sounds bad. Feel free to ask for feedback and stuff! We won’t kick you off the server for building stuff that’s not up to par with some subjective standard... just... don’t make the place look gross or shitty. And when we say “things that mess up the server” we really mean “don’t go overboard with anything and force the server to work for you and only you” - we have to share a lot of things on the server(s)... including the RAM on the server’s machine.

As for the issue with "replacing" items, yeah, where would the items go? If your inventory doesn't have room, either the grave's items (your previous items) or your inventory's items will drop into the void. You probably have enabled the option to "replace original slots in inventory", so your grave's items try to go back into the slots they were in when you died.

You tried 1.14.x modded? Wasn't aware they'd gotten past 1.13.x. I'll do a reevaluation of modded ASAP but I'm also going to text ETL to see if I could get control of the thread back to do some updates. I'd also like to PM the users that have come and gone over the years and see if we can get a semi-cohesive group of Vanilla enthusiasts to join together, create a new Spawntown, do all the cute Vanilla things we do... I still haven't played with a lot of the stuff in the Aquatic or the Village update(s).

Nice! Yeah, if you see this message and would be interested in Vanilla, especially community-driven, cooperative Vanilla, give us a post so I can gauge interest.

With Minecraft Realms being our "hosting service" it's even easier to get connected too, since I just invite you via your MC username in the client itself and you see a popup in your multiplayer menu with access to the server. Realms also come complete with multiple-"world" support, so we can swap to an event/minigame map or something if we want on the fly and then swap back to the 1.15.2 world with a click of a button on my end.

Just wanted to put in writing some of the basic guidelines we've always used as a community - see below. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to discuss them. These are also in the OP, along with a small note indicating that, my mistake, the DDSS Modded server is still up and running with all the same info, but will be phased out soon, most likely. Looking for opinions on a potential Modded server, but that depends on a lot of variables.
In post 0, Maestro wrote:
Server Guidelines
:

  • NO griefing, NO stealing, NO PvP without explicit consent.
  • Respect your fellow players and the server.
    * See below!

  • Don't build ugly stuff where people will see it.
* This can be broken down in a bunch of ways.
Generally, in this community we support the following:
  • Respect each others' space for mining and building. (Negotiate! Ask! Don't just intrude on somebody's building project/mining operation, etc.)
  • Replant crops and trees you harvest, mainly in communal farms. (If you want to harvest somebody else's farm, ask! See above.)
  • Respect the server's hardware. (This one is tricky, but discuss with an admin civilly if an issue comes up. Don't argue or get upset.)
  • Try to reasonably limit looting/destroying generated structures (Exception: extremely remote areas or other Minecraft dimensions. This matters more in Modded than Vanilla.)
  • Respect the other players and their choices (Example: everybody wants to be there to kill the Ender Dragon! This matters a bit more in Vanilla than in Modded.)
  • Respect communal spaces like Nether Hub or Spawntown, if they exist. (You're always welcome to ask if you can improve something, and please fix it if you break it!)

Maestro, in a PM to Aronis wrote:Still working on exact logistics - I ended up not loving the idea of Realms bc of limited configuration available for plugins/mods/addons/packs and didn't want to force ppl to pay for some of the ones Mojang puts out. Not to mention COVID hit and finances were a bit of a concern for awhile, less so now. Thanks tho bud! Hope you're well, and hope to play some MC soon. I'll post (basically) this update and more in-thread soon.

Phew. I'm back; looking to spruce the place up. Who's around and wants a new Modded server? I'm looking to dive into it again.

I sent Reck a PM, but how's the Vanilla server going @UT? Any interest in moving to something non-Realm with some plugins? Is chat connected to Discord?

EDIT: NICE! Pagetop - I'll take a look at the op while I'm around...

Oh? DF got a visual upgrade?! Wow hold on I'll do a Google, I remember it before

EDIT: woooah cool! Reminds me a lot of Prison Architect/Rimworld's aesthetic, though a bit more sprite-based and top-down (the "classic RPG" is strong with this one!) rather than the odd sideways angle for Prison Architect/Rimworld... the management-sim elements are sortof similar as well, but I know DF has had its own systems for a lot longer, and they obviously go for very different mechanics.

JUST KIDDING!
Modded is in the finishing stages of testing, Vanilla+ is up and happenin' and both are soon to be connected to the Discord server for inter-server chat!

However...

PLEASE READ ME BEFORE JOINING MODDED!!!

Necessary changes
made to the Valhelsia 2 modpack:
(if using CurseForge, click the 3 dots near the play button for the pack, click "Profile Options" -> check "Allow content management for this profile" -> install or remove mods as needed)

  • added Astral Sorcery v1.12.13 (Astral should auto-download its dependency ObserverLib)

  • removed Upgrade Aquatic v1.7.1 (known crash that is only fixed in an Aquatic update for a newer version of MC)

  • removed Lightest Lamps v4.0.6 (consistently went *poof* from the server after crashes, decided to grant its wish permanently)
For the server IPs and other general info, check the updated OP. If you have any questions, PM me on here or on Discord!
Let's start seeing some photos again, maybe with permalinks this time? What do y'all wanna buuuuuuuuiiiiiiiiiilddd? :)

HOLIDAY / NEW YEAR 2020-2021 UPDATE!

Vanilla server discussion opening:
Any interest in Vanilla right now? Would an update to the world be appealing? I could even keep it cutting edge (probably would have to be with no mods/plugins whatsoever, though), and move Vanilla to Minecraft's snapshot releases. Or an events server! Whatever people would like to play. If there's anything else on anybody's mind about Vanilla, feel free to reach out via PM or post in-thread. I know I walked back in here and was going to do Modded again and figured this would work out, but (@Reck/UT) if you'd prefer to keep your world a more personal server or if something else is hampering your desire to play, just let me know. Loved when we had active groups on both at once; I know Modded isn't for everybody.

Modded server update imminent:
As announced on the MafiaScum Discord (details in post 0 of this thread), I'm updating us to
Valhelsia 2.3.1
for the holiday, and testing a lot of the major changes that will happen with this update in the coming weeks. I have several backups of the server in case something goes wrong, but I think we'll be fine. I essentially worked on this update as a fresh Valhelsia 2.3.1 install, but ofc with the existing world, whitelist, and any misc. server files that could be carried over.
I suggest all players do the same and set up a new instance of Valhelsia running 2.3.1 - this is easy in CurseForge's launcher* and even easier in MultiMC.
You are able to carry over your keybinds, graphics, and other settings simply by copying "options.txt" from your existing Valhelsia 2.3.0 instance, no matter what launcher you use. If you need help with this, several players and/or I will be able to help on Discord.

*CurseForge instructions:
Browse Modpacks tab -> Valhelsia 2 -> Versions tab -> Valhelsia-2-2.3.1 (released 12/19/2020) -> navigate to the right hand side of the table and click Install and CF should install a separate instance of Valhelsia 2 under My Modpacks. The new instance will
probably
be named "Valhelsia 2 (1)" in your instance folder. If you follow my recommendation and keep both instances (if for no other reason than so you can swap back if we have to downgrade in case of emergency), you may want to ask CF to organize your modpacks by "Recently Played" so that you're always launching the correct version of V2.

Changes for Valhelsia 2.3.1:

  • removed by Valhelsia 2 team: Double Slabs -
This will be the biggest issue. There may be huge holes in builds and missing items in storage if people had or used a lot of the generic slab blocks affected by this mod, which I believe may be many of us. If anything causes the world to sort of... collapse, and force us to downgrade, it will be this, I imagine. But this could also be completely fine and just make things go poof.
  • removed by Valhelsia 2 team: JAOPCA -
Apparently not compatible with the new update to Create. #modded
  • manually add Astral Sorcery 1.12.14 -
Remember, if using CF, to enable content management in your Valhelsia 2.3.1 profile settings!

  • (
Check your mods! If not auto-downloaded, add ObserverLib 1.3.2, required for Astral Sorcery!
    )
  • No need to manually remove any mods at this time!

In post 20963, EspeciallyTheLies wrote:
ATM7 modpack will be taking a little siesta for now
- too many crashes/issues at the moment. If/when ATM7 ever becomes more stable, we can update and reload the same world. Currently, nothing is "lost" - it just wont run properly.

In the meantime, we have set up
Curseforge modpack Another Quality Modpack 3 v1.3.3 for mc v 1.18.1

IP: msaqm3.g.akliz.net or 69.25.207.229:26738
since ETL hasn't posted an update since this, I can!

We are deep into the creation of an
accessible, modern, curated modpack
for Minecraft
1.18.1
/ Forge modloader! It shall be known as
ScumPack X
- the
10th custom modpack created for MafiaScum's unofficial modded Minecraft servers
- and this time our goal is lofty: we'd like to extend an invitation to every player who's ever played on an MS MC server, whether vanilla or modded, to return to see how the game has become more incredible over the years, to experiment with the limits of cutting-edge Minecraft mods, and to have tons of fun and build pretty Stuff like we always do!
(Former players' family or chosen family are also more than welcome to join, but it's recommended, since as a player you will be a presence on the Official MafiaScum Discord, that you register MS.net usernames and post in the thread on the site that started it all to say hello and tell us you'd like to join the community!)

Plenty has changed in Minecraft over the years, but we still enjoy this (admittedly rather goofy) game, and we've found some wonderful friends here. There will be in-depth documentation for this pack, presented in-game via guide books and a quest book; the guide books should help you understand many of the more complicated mods even if you don't want to go Googling or watching YouTube videos. The quest book is more of a bonus menu that allows for you to turn in specific materials you gather or complete specific accomplishments (or just learn some basics or explore!) all in exchange for prizes and other materials to help you in this multiplayer co-operative survival world we'll be enjoying together. We hope you consider coming to join us, drop by our channel on the Discord too, if you'd like to do so!

Definite maybe!
What version(s) and/or plugin(s) would these sorts of lovely lurkers prefer to play on/participate in? General server rules unlikely to change, check the OP on those, but I would love hearing feedback... and I know a LOT of ppl don't care/don't want to play with mods. I miss some of those people... hence this post!

I'll probably go with Paper (Bukkit for plugins on 1.19.2),
#1 priority would be keeping the server completely mod-free, server plugins only, so essentially Vanilla
from the players' PoV, but most likely with some flashy bells and whistles, both from servers past and newer things we may find useful or that I may want from an admin standpoint. My own personal preference would be to say each player will have a /home, we may have /spawn, and that's it, but it's open for discussion, as always! Giving meaning back to some of the many travel options in Vanilla means one of the biggest appeals of the building and one of the biggest appeals of servers past can possibly return! Not to mention, groups of players become fun and meaningful again... in a way they are often not in Modded, especially. Send me your words! I'm investigating plugins and versions right now, while doing a Haunting of Hill House marathon with a friend :)

Hey there! New server was my birthday present, eh Dave? :P I'll update OP with whatever we're running now if it needs updating, @ Xevei/Dave, but anybody else around in the mood for Vanilla, or for a new modpack of some kind? I think mainly we're suffering from a lack of interest or community presence at the moment; you all (@Xevei/Dave) could essentially be running what you want and doing whatever, given how many of the rest of us who are somewhat present don't/can't play much.

I keep in touch with and know ETL Klaz Maru Dav are still around-ish but are also, like me, a bit RL busy... (I'm not counting any of them as inactive tho lol)

But yeah, consider this a "knock knock," any old MafiaScum Minecraft community members around and feeling any itch to mine or craft again? :D

EDIT: After sending some PMs to try and see if any Community Members Emeritus feel like returning, felt like I'd come back to add an edit.

Please post! Tell me/us what or how you'd like to play, and support some purposeful gaming community here, if ya want!

I definitely have felt the pain when it comes to newer/bigger packs basically being an unintended gateway for Modded, yeah. We've tried to push "Modded Lite"-style modpacks before, and plugin Vanilla (+Bukkit/Spigot/etc.) servers have been super popular here before. They're a bit harder to manage, but could be time to go with the plugin route and essentially a Vanilla modded server, if people wanted certain "features" of Modded in an otherwise-Vanilla world, as a compromise between the two, almost?

If this is the maps crash it was so annoying and playerdata-corrupting... so glad it's gone. I'm rejoining y'all and updating the OP and Discord pins; the hardcore server I'm on is putting pressure on me lol

I've given EspeciallyTheLies mod powers in the thread; I'm sure they won't abuse them. :P

OP on the thread and the pinned posts in the Discord channel have been updated, speaking of which:

I started a poll about a Vanilla server! If I see it pop above like 10 votes, I'll start one up, I guess? Or encourage Arch/ETL to do that, I guess...

Also, if anybody is thinking about getting into Modded Minecraft, I can now wholeheartedly recommend PrismLauncher as a well-maintained launcher run by a genuinely-dedicated community of individuals, who used to maintain the PolyMC launcher. If you use that one (or if you still use MultiMC, less-maintained now, I have heard), I recommend you download Prism. You'll find it's autodownloader & autoupdater extremely easy to use! I am super in-love.

OP and Discord pins updated to reflect the new Modded info!

Please, also check out the poll at the top of the thread if you haven't already! Feel free to vote even if you wouldn't play on a survival multiplayer server; one of the options is for a "competition/events" "vanilla" server, where we could run regular mini-games on or have 24/7 Adventure Maps or other things available for our group!
