I think so. I'll admit I'm super naive and own it if anyone wants to make fun of me; but as a white person, I thought racism was a boogeyman to be found in history books and bumfuck towns. We elected Obama and I was too ignorant to understand how much work he did to not be "too black" and just viewed the birther stuff as the rantings of a crazy old guy. I didn't realize that people were stewing in their hatred for him waiting to do the trump super racist thing.

Edit: additional context: I've mostly lived in places that don't have that many black people but a lot of brown people.

Shouldn't the prop bet be "will the super bowl champions visit the white house" not "what will they eat"?

Only if the Rams win. Trump is best friends with Brady and co.

Yeah dude, unless you interact with communities of color on a daily basis you probably think racism is a relic of the past. I did too. When Obama was elected we all agreed that racism was finally dead.

You don't learn otherwise unless you interact with people outside your community who are willing to say these things are still a problem. I did not grow up in a 100% white community, but the issues aren't going to be talked about in school, and it's unlikely your peers will say anything.

Trump gives away the game. In the past, conservatives liked to point to the Constitution as reasons why they weren't racists, just originalists. Trump openly flouts the Constitution and they just go along with it because the point was always the white supremacy.

Welp I find this wrong considering white supremacy is at most a subgroup of conservativism and not the other way around.

Also assuming current society is white supremacist, conservatives want to keep the current society and therefore that they're white supremacists is so superficial. Most conservatives I know are conservatives because they want free economy, small government and ethics applied to everyone regardless of their race.

You dont live in the United States. This issue in this iteration is unique to this country. What UT said is true of the US and of conservatism and white supremacy in the US.

And we don't say this to shame the average conservative either.

It's still going to take decades upon decades to fully get past the red line/green line suburb divisions and have true integration which can lead to less racism.

I don't know if racial equality is going to be achieved any time in the near future due to disparity in the justice system and educational and professional opportunities especially for lower class minorities. Things have improved since the early and mid 20th century but I understand why that isn't adequate for most. I don't know that there is any easy solution either though.

So I take the usual conservative policies like anti-abortion, anti-legalization, pro-guns, pro-death penalty, small government have nothing to do with that kind of conservatism, am I right?

It's easier for liberals to call conservatives a bunch of racists than to admit there are valid reasons to be conservative that aren't racist.

I mean we have a clearly racist president which doesn't make it easier for conservatives to argue that but the president doesn't speak for the average conservative I think.
