Let me check the probabilities...
Day 1 - 1/4 chance of lynching Mafia in the Council.
1/5 chance of lynching Mafia outside the Council.
Best strategy is probably lynching outside the Council if the Council seems to be equally scummy(or towny) and to lynch inside the Council if not. If the Council is not distinguishable well then Mafia probably has to use their Nightkill on the Council sooner or later - which only helps town.
Sounds good!
Edit: Actually it is probably best for the (Town) Council to NOT claim day 1. This ensures if the town lynches off council that the Mafia does not know who is on the council without help from the traitor - and that can be spotted. Additionally lynching off the council has to be done anyways!

That means if the Town puts two people into the Wilderness they vote each other and both get lynched, correct?
In post 51, BBmolla wrote:On the contrary, during the day it only takes each player getting one vote in order to be sent to The Wilderness. So Player A could vote Player B, Player B could vote A, they both go to the Wilderness. In theory everyone could just be voted into The Wilderness, but because you need at least one person not in The Wilderness who is town, that's suboptimal. There should be multiple votes on some players just as fillers.
Day votes are public if that's not clear.
Yeah, so I thought about the possible strategies and something horrible came up.
This setup isn't Mafia. At least it isn't how it should be played. The mafia can openwolf Day 1 and all be found out Day 1 and they can still win(headhunter has only 1/3 chance there). As long as 2 Mafia are alive they can send themselves to the Wilderness and... win...
Two things should be tweaked:
A lynch in the Wilderness needs two votes to go through.
I think there should be a possibility for the Town to make a Last Stand vote to single out all the remaining Mafia. If wrong, Mafia wins. If right, Town wins.

This allows Wilderness results to be more controlled
Let me think on it.
An organized town has a strategy.
1. Voting is not allowed prior to discussion.
2. 3 people are selected to go to the Wilderness. The 3 most scummy players. Whoever votes someone else is treated as confirmed Mafia.
Wilderness: The most scummy player is lynched. The players cross - shoot each other.
If this doesn't happen then there is a scum majority in the Wilderness. Then Headhunter shoots one of them, and five players are selected for the Wilderness. The town in the Wilderness kill the confirmed scum. Then town looks for the last scum.
Of course, should Headhunter be erroneously selected to go to the Wilderness (be one of the 3 most scummy) then they shoot immediately.
This variant has an optimal strategy closely following... established lynch practices.
There is a strategy for an early scum lynch claim.
The two who claim a scum lynch are either both town or both scum.
Someone else is picked and then picks the two players who claimed scum result(only doable on 5v2/6v1 or 4v2/5v1).
Then one of these two townies gets lynched which confirms the other as town.
This leads to a 5v1 or 4v1 Nightless with one confirmed town. The EV for 4v1 Nightless with one conftown is obscenely high which means that this strategy should be always pursued Day 2 or Day 2 after scum lynch claims.
If those two were scum, the picker is automatically lynched, and the scum are then lynched on 4v2 or 3v2 with the appropiate strategy.
If it is 4v2(after two claimed townie lynches, which are automatically correct)
- scum lynch claim: The town either trusts that pair or not. If not, they pick someone outside the pair, who then picks one from the pair and one outside. The pair is lynched and Town wins, or the pair was Town and Mafia wins.
If they trust the pair(read:at least one person trusts the pair) then one of the pair is picked, and then picks the other member and someone they percieve to be scum. If the pair is scum, Mafia wins. If the pair is town, and the picked person is town, town loses. If the pair is town, and the picked person is Mafia, Town wins via two confirmed town.
- town lynch claim:Confirmed 3v2.
Town has to pick town, otherwise Mafia wins.
That town has to pick a townie and a Mafia, otherwise Mafia wins.
The initially picked townie is confirmed town.
They now lynch one of the secondary picks.
If it is town, Mafia wins.
If it is Mafia, mafia loses via 2 confirmed town.
The game will never descend into a standard 2v1 LYLO, although an early scum lynch may lead to a 1v1 LYLO.
In post 87, Irrelephant11 wrote:What prevents D1 massclaim from breaking that setup? Obviously town will lose all their powers, but half of town would become conftown by virtue of not being cc’d
Day 1 massclaim
Day 1 lynch:Face Eater
Night 1: The Face Eaters eat the faces of the whole town.
Day 2: 2 Face Eaters are alive. The Face Eaters win.
In post 99, callforjudgement wrote:Town could probably break the Face Eaters setup by dividing the roles into three groups of three, then having every player claim which group they're in. This gives town a huge amount of information, without giving the Face Eaters much additional opportunity to get a large set of guesses correct at once.
No, not really!
The Face Eaters will simply all claim a different group... That gives the Face Eaters much info and the town... not enough...
