What Would They Know?

"What Would they Know?" is a trivia game, for 5 players, that consists of three rounds. It's not just about what you know, but what others don't.

Round 1

  • Round 1 consists of 5 questions
  • All questions will have at least 6 correct answers
  • Players will submit one answer each
  • Players will score 3 points for a correct answer but only if they are the only player to submit that answer

Spoiler: Example Question
Q: Name a month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar

P1: June
P2: Julember
P3: February
P4: June
P5: March

Players 3 and 5 will both score 3 points, Players 1 and 4 will score 0 points for submitting the same correct answer and Player 2 will score 0 for submitting an incorrect answer

Round 2

  • Round 2 consists of 10 questions
  • The questions will be traditional trivia questions with only one correct answer
  • Players will submit one answer each
  • Players will score 5 points if they are the only player to answer correctly, 4 points if they are one of two players to answer correctly, 3 points if they are one of three players to answer correctly, 2 points if they are one of four players to answer correctly, and players will score 1 point each if they all answer correctly.

Spoiler: Example Question
Q: Which month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar comes last?

P1: December
P2: November
P3: November
P4: Paris Hilton
P5: December

Players 1 and 5 will both score 4 points as they were the only two players to answer correctly. Players 2, 3 and 4 will score 0 points for submitting an incorrect answer

Round 3

  • Round 3 consists of just 1 question
  • The question will be a traditional trivia question with only one correct answer
  • Players will submit one answer each
  • Players will see the beginnings of 3 different questions, the player leading at the end of round 2 will choose which question the players will answer.
  • Players will then choose how many points they want to wager on answering the final question correctly. Players will double their wagered points if they answer correctly and lose their wagered points if they answer incorrectly.
  • The question will then be revealed in full and players will submit their answer.
  • Answers and wagers will be revealed and a winner will be crowned.
  • Yes this is Final Jeopardy, don't @ me, Alex Trebek don't sue me.

Spoiler: Example Round
End of Round 2 Standings

P1: 18 points
P2: 31 points
P3: 29 points
P4: 32 points
P5: 21 points

Player 4 is leading and so will pick from these 3 question previews

A: In which month of the Gregorian Calendar... ?
B: Which Impressionist painter was... ?
C: In which Asian capital city did... ?

Player 4 chooses question A

Question A in full:

In which month of the Gregorian Calendar is American Independence Day?

Answers

P1: July
P2: July
P3: July
P4: June
P5: June

July is the correct answer

Wagers

P1: 18 points
P2: 2 points
P3: 0 points
P4: 0 points
P5: 21 Points

Final Standings

P1: 36 points
P2: 33 points
P3: 29 points
P4: 32 points
P5: 0 points

Therefore P1 is the winner

Tiebreakers

  • If there a tie after rounds 2 and/or 3, a tiebreaker question will be played between the leading players to determine either who chooses the question for round 3 or the overall winner
  • Tiebreaker questions will have a numerical answer, the player closest will win the tiebreak, regardless of being over or under the correct answer
  • If players tie on a tiebreaker, another will be played until a winner is determined.

Spoiler: Example question
Players 1, 2 and 3 are all tied for the lead after round 3

Q: How many months make up a year in the Gregorian Calendar

P1: 13
P2: 9
P3: 10

P1 is closest to the correct answer of 12 and wins

Other Rules

  • The winner of each game will gain an automatic place in the next game, if they choose to accept it
  • Losing players will join the back of the queue for the following games, in their finishing order
  • A leaderboard of wins and points will be maintained
  • Players will have 24 hours to submit but I am happy to accommodate V/LAs if players let me know.
  • Of course, no collusion between players and no looking up answers

Our first universal stumper sees no change in the scores.

"Lady Chatterley's Lover" refers to her gamekeeper; Oliver Mellors, with whom she has an affair after her husband is injured during the war. Lady Chatterley's Lover was the subject of a landmark obscenity trial in the U.K., the trial's not guilty verdict paved the way for much more freedom in UK publishing and other media.

That makes Kublai Khan our champion, make sure to congratulate him.

Will send out PMs to KK and the next 4 players in the queue making sure they still want to play, the others players in this game can let me know if they want to be added back to the end of the queue. Let me know if you enjoyed the game and how you think it could be improved

If the mods will let you and it is not difficult, maybe add a private topic where those that are watching can answer and cast aspersions on those who don't get the right answer.

You wait ages for a Xenon to come and then 3 come along at once, we see just one player pick up points for the first time in round 1, leaving Xalxe as our sole straggler. Sometimes the more obvious answers are better in round 1, will we see players start to revert to more basic answers?

We see a lot more mind melding this game, total points gained in round 1 this game is 36 compared to 51 in game 1. We also see ips going into round 2 with a hefty 6 point advantage compared to the relatively even spread last game.

Despite much discussion of Jodie Whittaker being the first woman to play The Doctor, the character has actually been portrayed by Joanna Lumley in a Red Nose Day version of the programme and by Arabella Weir in a non-canon audio play.

Two of our contestants, including reigning champion Kublai Khan, activated my trap card and are now joint last as a result.

The Gregorian calendar is rooted in the Julian calendar, which was created when the number 0 as we know it was not fully realised. There is no Roman numeral for zero and although the Babylonians did utilise the concept of nothingness, it is not as developed as the concept of 0 we use today.

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" is the most famous example of a pangram sentence, perfect pangram sentences (which use each letter just once) are hard to make in English, an example of a 28 letter pangram is "Waltz, bad nymph, for quick jigs vex", which makes little sense.
