VOTING

Mishandled evidence.

That was the story in the papers, but the detectives on the police force knew the real story. It was by no accident or unlucky stroke that that evidence went missing; it was confirmation of a long suspected truth. The Mafia had people on the inside.

How high up the chain it went or how long it had been going on, nobody knew. Dealing with corruption is like chasing shadows. The truth was there was no telling who you could trust. Anybody could've been in on it: people you thought you could trust, people you thought you were your friends. Maybe even your partner.

The tension around the station was palpable. Window shutters were closed, suspicious glances exchanged.


An Internal Affairs investigation was being opened. Everyone's dirty laundry was going to be aired, long-buried secrets unearthed. People were going to get dismissed; that much was certain.

All anybody could hope for was that it didn't turn bloody.

Amid pressure from higher up and the threat of being moved to permanent desk duty, spending the rest of his years sorting records and filing away papers, Vedith quietly resigned, never to be seen around the station again.

It's funny what you can find cleaning out an old desk. Vedith's old desk held something particularly interesting – a nondescript beige envelop.

It was nearly thrown out by the Janitor until he heard the rattling coming from within.

Inside were photographs, tax audits, tape recordings of conversations, all of Vedith's old beat partner. Strangely enough, while the source was somewhat dubious, the evidence all pointed to one indisputable conclusion: PenguinPower was a clean cop.

What the Internal Affairs investigators didn't realize was that their presence and the notability they were bringing to the investigation of the Mafia was disrupting an ongoing undercover investigation.

The Mafia were beginning to get concerned. With the high-profile arrest of one of their men on the inside and the public outcry over deaths of multiple officers, the rope was tightening around their neck.

As everyone was heading home from the station, JunkoChan checked her desk.

Finally, a letter. She'd been instructed to sit tight and stay quiet at the start of the investigation, with no further contact since. Getting a message now must mean that things would be moving forwards.

"Meet at the regular spot."

The Harbor freight container stacks. She took her regular route there, and waited.

And waited.

As she leaned against her car waiting, police cruisers rushed the scene. The head IA investigator stepped out.

Shit, she thought as she put her hands behind her head.

As expected, the drive-by shooting of PenguinPower in broad daylight had sent shockwaves throughout the city.

There was an immense outcry from the public, and pressure was put on Internal Affairs from the media and upper management both.

The Mafia had sent a strong message. Internal Affairs knew they had to send a similar one.

Despite multiple doubts and only circumstantial evidence, Dr Worm was detained and brought in for questioning.

Events were clearing coming to a head, and both sides of the law were getting desperate.

"I almost forgot. Just one last thing, Chief", he said, reaching underneath Dannflor's desk and pulling up a microphone.


"I'm gonna need you to turn around and put your hands behind your back."

thanks for the great game, everyone! very few prods or replacements needed, and it was overall i think a great game environment. this game is definitely among my favorite ever that i've modded (if not the best one!).


i'm really glad you all liked the flavor! i wasn't really sure where i was going with it when i decided to make flavor or even if it was a good idea (i felt like the day 1 intro flavor was so cheesy), but i think i kind of got into a bit of a groove.

Apologies for my abysmal activity, I'm gonna go on a break for a month or so.

Really hated replacing out of this but the responsibility of being in a game was making me dread coming on site. I shouldn’t have signed up in the first place and hopefully won’t be playing anymore without a good sized break.

Props to NSG for her usual excellence and Dann for going farther than I ever would have expected considering the mess I left.

i thought you both played completely fine, for what it's worth. i can understand the feeling of dread, though. (especially as scum)
