The point of the protests is not so people like me, or Panzer, or PEG, or anyone else in this thread who agrees with them to see it. We don't need to see the protests of racial injustices. We're not the ones getting angry because we have to see a 5-second camera shot of a player kneeling during the national anthem.

The point of the protests is so people like YOU see them. The point of protests is so people who either don't know about an issue or don't do anything about an issue or even don't agree about an issue see them. The protests are for people who say things like "we've made enough progress on race in the last 60 years".

Should, not must. It, like many other parts of the flag code, are suggestions, not commands.

For example...

It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

"Display the flag during daylight only...unless you want to also display it at night, then just illuminate it."

(b) The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat.

(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

The flag code, is in fact, a set of guidelines. It was conceived so that the public may observe the flag using the same traditions as the military does. Obviously, many parts of the flag code are "violated" constantly...and we seem to be pretty okay with it.

Now, of course, there is no penalty to the flag code, and it is just about respect.

This code is the guide for all handling and display of the Stars and Stripes. It does not impose penalties for misuse of the United States Flag. That is left to the states and to the federal government for the District of Columbia. Each state has its own flag law.

And you might say, 'the code is clear, you must be standing, this is not open to interpretation.' However, there is an EXACT provision in the code that states this very fact.

While the Code empowers the President of the United States to alter, modify, repeal or prescribe additional rules regarding the Flag, no federal agency has the authority to issue 'official' rulings legally binding on civilians or civilian groups.

Consequently, different interpretations of various provisions of the Code may continue to be made.

The Flag Code may be fairly tested: 'No disrespect should be shown to the Flag of the United States of America.'

Therefore, actions not specifically included in the Code may be deemed acceptable as long as proper respect is shown.

The two bolded lines make my point. A) The Flag Code is up to interpretation. B) Actions not specifically in the code are acceptable as long as proper respect is shown.

Where is the outrage on wearing the flag on football uniforms?

Kaep is like a league average starter. I don't know why this argument keeps coming around, his numbers and his abilities say that he could have been a league average starter. He's 5th best all-time in int-to TD ratio. He's also 2nd worst in history for running himself into sacks. If you put his career numbers against the 33 who started least season, Kaep would have ranked #19. So basically average to below average. Of the 14 ranked below him, 8 entered the season as the team's starting QB (and a couple who would have been higher than him, McCown, Bortles, Carr, are also considered not good QBs). So I don't know how anyone could argue that Kaep isn't good enough to be a starting QB, let along a back-up. If your argument is 'Kaep isn't a good enough QB' you're wrong. It's not even that hard to look at his statistics and figure out that you can't make this argument.

(obviously this year he is now also two seasons removed from playing and could no longer be in football shape, but that doesn't explain last year)

So if it isn't statistics or ability that is holding him back from getting on a team, then you need to ask yourself what you really want to argue. Do you want to argue that Kaep wanted to be guaranteed the money and playing time like a top 10 QB? Sure, some reporting suggests that is true.

Or maybe you want to argue that no one wants the media spectacle of having Kaep around. Sure, that's plausible.

It is also plausible (as Kaep is suing for) that NFL teams got together and decided that hiring Kaep was bad for business. Isn't that possible?
