A joke submission:

6 named townies
2 goons
Nightless

All names are announced at the start of D1. Town flips show names.
Town win by eliminating all scum.
Scum win by correctly naming every townie (note that this is inevitable if every townie but one is dead).
Scum do this in their pt. If they are correct about every name, they win. Otherwise, one living scum must 1v1 a living townie of their choice.
Ties on 1v1s break in scum’s favor.

Flavor is preferably names from a movie/theater show, and 1v1’s are the understudy trying to steal the part

Because even if they win the 1v1 the scum in the 1v1 will get lynched immediately afterwards
Better to try to solve he puzzle of townie names by getting a couple mislynches before using one of their chances to guess

Lost Heirs

6 Vanilla Townies

1 Town Spy

Pregame the Mafia must choose two players to be the
Lost Heirs.
One or both of the Lost Heirs may be Mafia members. The
Spy
is then informed of the name of one of the two Lost Heirs, randomly chosen. The Spy is not informed of the alignment of either Lost Heir. Lost Heirs are not aware of being Lost Heirs (unless they are mafia of course), but if they die, they flip as a
Town Lost Heir
or a
Mafia Lost Heir
.

If both Lost Heirs are dead, the Town automatically wins, even if they would otherwise be endgamed.

Once during the game, the Mafia may choose to
Arrest
their nightkill. This works the same as a normal nightkill, except that if the Spy is killed this way then the Town loses its ability to win by killing both Lost Heirs. It is not announced when this power is used, unless it is used successfully on the Spy.
What stops town from lynching a claimed spy to prevent scum from arresting them? Aside from losing 1 of very few lynches

Real submission

choose your own adventure7v2

Pre-game, or maybe during a short pregame discussion phase (undecided on this), each player privately submits the letter I, P, or V. Based on the number of each letter, the setup is determined. If there are an odd number of I or P submissions, one of that letter becomes a V.

(I)nformative
0 I’s: Named townie
2: Parity Neapolitan (receives results in the form “Result A” and “Result B”. Each corresponds to “is vanilla townie” or “is not vanilla townie”, but the neap doesn’t know which is which)
4: 1-shot cop
6: Cop
8: Jailkeeper

(P)rotective:
0: 1-shot bulletproof
2: Bodyguard
4: 1-shot jailkeeper
6: Doctor
8: Jailkeeper

(V)anilla:
9: 2 loud goons
7: Loud goon and goon
5: 2 goons
3: 1-shot mafia Rolecop and goon
1: 1-shot mafia strongman and goon

So each of the 15 possible setups should look like
“Informative town role”
“Protective town role”
5 vts

2 mafia of some kind

Town power roles are always assigned to a townie who submitted an “I” or “P”, if possible (in this way, townies who like rolling vt can nearly guarantee it, and those who like being a PR can increase their chances).
Similarly, if one scum gives a V and the other doesn’t, the less powerful role (if applicable) will be given to the scum who submitted a V.

Scum have daychat and are multitasking.

With 9V, as the setup currently stands:

Named townie
1-shot bulletproof
5 vts
2 loud goons

Edit: this was actually my starting point and is one of my favorite possible setups. The wifom generated by the fact that a scum misfire can create a guilty feels very fun to play

After. And mafia definitely get to coordinate pregame. I can’t decide if the thread should also be open for a discussion phase before letters are submitted - I think this is the only way to get some setups (when would 9V happen randomly, for example) but also makes the process of choosing letters much more important, with some players trying to force their will on others, etc. which messes with the Choose Your Own Adventure spirit.

Thoughts?

I guess a pregame discussion phase before anyone receives alignments could be interesting, too, now that I think about it.
Maybe pregame discussion > alignments sent out and scumchat opened > submitting letters?

Yeah I like that idea too, but the scenario I wanted to avoid is as follows:

All town submit I. Both scum submit P. A townie who submitted an I is given the role bodyguard and suddenly knows exactly what scum submitted, which could potentially be a lot of information to be used in game

Town levelers are basically semi-IC’s here, I think
Since if mafia leveler claims town will only lynch in the leveler claims for an increased chance of hitting scum

I’ll vote tomorrow!
Btw for my setup I decided that the first 48 hours of game time is the discussion phase. Players have their alignments and a very short time to choose to try to coordinate a setup pick (and scum then have the chance to try to ruin that pick) if they want.

CYOA – I like mine a lot.
Pick 5 – I like it! I thought about my options as scum and each time I thought I’d gamed it the town choices were a good counterbalance.
Microtown – Feels like the role list could maybe be better? But I’m very interested to see it played regardless
Lost Heirs v3 – Easy to understand, interesting
Leveler Mafia – Not exciting to me, but good
PYAE – I do enjoy Grandest Idea games and the like (which is why this is in my top half), but I feel like this system for *getting there* is a little overly complicated, and the results are less wacky and more, just, guaranteed unbalanced.
Jingle’s setup – It’s fine
Martyrs updated – Too screwy for my tastes in opens
Pizza mafia – If I understand this right, everyone will claim d2, and scum will just try to *be lucky with claims* and look for the pepperoni. Not the worst setup, but doesn’t sound like every win would feel deserved.
I’d Take a Bullet – Doesn’t feel all that fun to play, especially as scum, though I *get* it.
DDL’s setup - feels a little overly complicated, and as Jingle mentions it has not yet worked out the kinks
Inventions and Stability – It’s not intuitive to me what would make this one fun to play

In post 114, Jingle wrote:Assuming no further votes, Relly is the clear winner, so I'd suggest he think up a set of criteria.

Honestly, I'm kinda sad that we had so much less setup tweaking this time. A few of these could probably have been much better with a bit of feedback.
I think this particular challenge made for complicated setups that were hard to give feedback on. Not necessarily a bad thing, since complicated setups can be cool, but something to keep in mind I guess.
I’ll try to make next month’s simpler (though I’ll wait a few hours to see if there are more votes before assuming I’ve won).
