It's certainly a product of its time, and most of the female actors feel like they were cast solely because they were hot. I'm sure the "women drivers" joke played great in 1977. But I'm glad I watched it, I was never bored!

One thing I really like about this movie is that while a lot of Bond films have the female lead range from incompetent to active hindrance, TSWLM goes out of its way to let us know that Major Amasova is a competent spy on Bond's level.

I literally laughed at the exchange:
Bond: The lady will have a... Bacardi on the rocks.
Major Amasova: For the gentleman, vodka martini - shaken, not stirred.
James Bond: Touché.
