I loved the concept of Dark Souls; the one problem was that I'm not a serious gamer so when I did finally get past the first boss and moved on to new enemies, I was disheartened by having to figure out something new. Probably a flaw on my part though, the game is pretty neat. I was sad that I couldn't get it on this sale until I saw what Umbrage said about the patches and such.

Is The Stanley Parable a game a basic computer could handle? I'm very interested by the premise.

The Weekly Sale also seems a nice way to pick up Psychonauts. I think I'll take advantage.

Newest Humble Indie Bundle includes Antichamber and Monaco if you pay more than the average!

Monaco is a top down game where you play as a robber who is...well, robbing something while avoiding guards and alarms and such. There are various roles and these roles each have different strengths, for example the Locksmith can pick locks on things faster. Of course, it's probably a lot more fun to play with multiple people so you have the abilities of multiple roles.

I got most of this from Wikipedia tbh, but I did watch one video of it a long time ago and it looked pretty fun. Plus I think a lot of people on MS like it. If Kcdaspot doesn't give you his extra key, it's a pay-more-than-the-average game on the Humble Indie Bundle.

I started watching a playthrough of Stick of Truth, because I'm not really that into south park so I'd likely never buy it, but so far it is funny and enjoyable.

Bomb Party

An online multiplayer version of what is essentially Hot Potato. You are given a 2-3 letter string and you have to find an English word that includes that string. So if it were "AST" you could type MASTER, CAST, or BASTE, or others. Meanwhile, a bomb is ticking and every time it expires you lose a heart. Last person standing wins.

Literally one of the most fun games ever. It's fun to see people struggle with finding a word. Also there are a lot of "Good Bad Bugs" IMO: the randomness of the bomb, an imperfect dictionary, and sometimes extremely difficult strings (ODH, for example, luckily I knew of JODHPURS). But all of these make the game chancey enough for anyone to win really. One true problem is that the first person to join a new game gets to decide the language, rather than having specific rooms for each, and so you can get stuck in a French game without meaning to. Though I guess that's enjoyable sometimes in testing your French knowledge. :P

So I will be staying at my friend's for spring break, and they have a PS3, so if I were to rent Heavy Rain and dedicate at least 10-12 hours of play to it, would I get a good enough play experience?

lol

mine is like the three games I bought from the Double Fine humble bundle and I haven't finished one (though I might have Psychonauts done by now if it weren't for my laptop needing repair/replacement)

But I think that might increase once I finish college?

Well, here's my thought process:

That's really neat, BUT
I have a lot of other work to do, AND
If you get them all, you just get "invited" to LA to make the "final round" of hiring, which isn't very strong at all, AND
Various places have already aggregated locations for everything, so that's kind of poopaf frific, SO
I'm not even trying. :P

Kudos to you if you finish and become like ruler of Google though.

Just figured I'd let everyone and anyone know before this runs out in approx. 1 and a half days! This Weekly Humble Bundle lets you get the wonderful RPG Maker for a fraction of what it would normally cost! the first tier gives you the newest version, but the $6 and $12 tiers provide more dlc and games for you to mess around with.

Also, if I have never played an Elder Scrolls, but got the penta-pack of all the games, which should I play first?

So I've heard. I just didn't know how far back the change occurred. It would've been easy to look up, but thanks for your help!

I also managed to snag a Wii finally at a garage sale! (Don't worry, the seller said it was her daughter's and she simply didn't need it since the family had another one already). I also snagged Mario Kart Wii (lol so behind), but I definitely have a list of games I would like to get and play:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Pikmin 3, maybe?
New Super Mario Bros., maybe?

Any other suggestions? I considered Okami a little but I'm not sure if it's my style of game.

I actually have the DS version, and from what I've played of the Wii version...I already imagine it's much better.
Oops @ Pikmin. I guess I meant the first two, which are available through VC or Gamecube backwards comp or something?
And I don't really care for Donkey Kong, but I heard it was a really good game!

I have no idea why Nintendo felt the need to include that detail with the kid. It's all I can think about when I think about that first island now.

Also I'm considering finally finishing Psychonauts, from post-Black Velvetopia onward...on father's day? :/

In post 922, Flameaxe wrote:The real question is how you managed to stop playing in LUNGFISHOPOLIS.
This. Lungfishopolis is probably the easiest level in the game?

Anyway, I finished, and here is my ranking of "mental" levels:

9. Milkman Conspiracy - shocking last place? Yeah sure it's like the poster child for why Psychonauts is such a good game and it's pretty humorous but it uses the Clairvoyance power which is generally difficult and thus the puzzles are so weird
8. Sasha's Shooting Gallery - It's boring but I suppose it is supposed to be that way, lol.
7. Waterloo World - I like how Waterloo World pulls in board gaming, but it's this low simply out of frustration at the "cannon" enemies plus one part of the level which wasn't really very intuitive.
6. Lungfishopolis - Maybe my favorite boss battle from the game, but otherwise it's weird. Like I said, it's easy, but the enemies are persistent enough that they're pretty annoying, and the level is otherwise a straightforward cityscape.
5. Black Velvetopia - Initially this level made me stop playing, but now I sort of appreciate it. A fun boss fight and Edgar's story is great too.
4. Milla's Dance Party - I feel like in any other game a 70s-colored pinball themed level would be my favorite, but since I've played through this one twice now it's sort of bland. Still gets number four though!
3. Gloria's Theater - In retrospect this level is rather simple? But I like the idea that you have to have the right play, right set, right mood to figure it out. It's not counter-intuitive unlike some of the other puzzles though, and the boss fight is pretty neat, so it makes for a good level all together.
2. Meat Circus - OK yeah I did get SUPER frustrated at one point (the circular fences, at which point it's necessary that you stand on the narrow tops of them, but the game in no way hints at this), but otherwise it wasn't so bad. I think I appreciated that it was the first real sense of challenge in the game.
1. Basic Braining - First level: best level? lol. I feel like other than maybe the Meat Circus it was the most engrossing visually, like when you hit the swinging trapezes at the airplanes it is a little trippy and I wanted there to be many more such experiences (sadly it did not live up the expectations. But yeah, parts like that and the logroll of doom make this level my favorite.

ah yes. Well the shield power is your friend.

But if you are good at the platforming aspect, you need to return for the platforming infernos/heavens that are the final "real world" level and the Meat Circus.

Things I'm considering:
Don't Starve at 3.74
Mirror's Edge at 4.99
EDIT: Also Hotline: Miami at less than $2 seems kind of irresistable

poor Maruchan :(

And yeah I think I'd like the creation and the first stage of Spore but that's about it. Still I've decided I'm going to try to stick to my "5 or under" policy for daily deals and such for now.

Speaking of creation, RPG Maker being on sale when I got it and a bunch of DLC for $6 in a humble bundle <3 still if you have any interest in creating games, or even just maps and stories, it's super fun, versatile, and easy to use. and 17.49 is definitely a good deal, it's $70 usually.

I steer with keyboard, and the mouse controls camera, but usually I try to leave the camera alone once I set it up how I want it.

Anyway, am I just a bad driver or is backing the trailer up to the unloading point fiendishly hard?

Episode 3 is so strange to me. It feels like nothing happens, yet when you go back through it SO MUCH happens; it feels like it's very short, but you realize it covers quite a bit of both time and space :/

I'm not taking the key, but definitely a bundle worth looking at. I've also heard good things about Tropico 4 and of course Euro Truck Simulator 2 in this thread.

I know there's a separate thread for it, but some of it is still spoilers to me, so I'm gonna post here that I finally got around to finishing The Walking Dead Season One. Here are my choices for all the episodes:

Spoiler: Chevre's Choices
Episode 1

Didn't lie to Hershel. Honesty was just one of the big things during my playthrough; the "you were honest with _____" must have popped up a million times during Episode 4.
Saved Shawn over Duck. He was just more of an asset to any chance of survival we had.
Sided with Kenny on Duck's being bitten, I was also very considerate regarding bites/injuries/etc.
Didn't give Irene the gun.
Saved Carley. I just feel like there's so much more development with her than Doug; it just feels like the natural choice.

Episode 2

Didn't kill Jolene
Didn't help kill Larry
Didn't kill either brother
Didn't loot car

Episode 3

Didn't shoot woman
Didn't leave Lilly behind
I guess I fought with Kenny in the train cab, but half-pacifism, half-not knowing where to click led me to just take all his punches lol.
Killed Duck myself
Helped Christa onto the train

Episode 4

I killed the zombie boy
Didn't threaten Vernon
Took Clementine to crawford
Saved Ben

Episode 5

Only Omid and Christa went with me. I let Ben decide for himself and there was no way Kenny was going with me unless I chose the "family" option
Didn't cut off arm
Argued calmly with Kenny
Gave up all weapons
Didn't kill the Stranger
Told Clementine to shoot me

In post 1143, Sudo_Nym wrote:The car gets looted by the group no matter what you choose, so the Stranger ultimately gets screwed over by that. He just doesn't get angry at you specifically for it.

Also, I think I read a post from you earlier in the thread wondering
how the Stranger chastises you if you don't endorse the looting of the car.

He accused me of choosing beautiful Carley over "the boy" Doug, and taking Clementine to the dairy "full of sickos."

So I finally played Walking Dead: 400 Days. #SoBehind Overall I thought it was pretty good; yeah it's of course way different from the season-long story of Season 1 but I like the various glimpses we got into everyone's stories.

Bonnie, Wyatt, and Russell went with Tavia. I've heard strange things about Bonnie in Season 2, but here she was pretty decent. I would've liked to have Shel and Becca but their story was the first I played and the choices actually felt pretty limiting (I didn't really want to kill Stephanie OR drive away) so I'm not too torn up.

I'll probably move on to the Wolf Among Us next, since that is Telltale's next game sequentially.

So The Creatures, a decent YouTube gaming/streaming group based in Colorado, got "swatted" today.

As a huge fan this makes me sick and angry. The Creatures are incredibly nice to their fans and are just all around good people. We need to put a stop to this somehow.

More appropriately I guess, SWATted. Yup. That SWAT.

It's apparently it is not a unique event, other streamers have had the same done to them.

Anyway, I have been sucked into the bizarre fun which is Hotline Miami

Could you delve into this a bit more? I'm by no means saying it's a

Also my friend gifted me Antichamber for my birthday! How exciting! But I still have like Hotline: Miami and the first Ace Attorney to beat, and I haven't even started Pokemon X. :/ At least there are actually several games I'm interested in.

Just a bit of news: After 10 years of it being an empty, inaccessible space on the world map, the elven city Prifddinas is now open and accessible in Runescape.

I still hold that it is one of the best gaming experiences ever, even if it does have it's flaws.

Played a bit of Antichamber. It is surprisingly less confusing than trailers/gameplay videos make it seem. The puzzles are often confusing and trial-and-error but once you've did it, you get it (along with a helpful message summarizing what you've done). Simple graphics but they are pretty and intriguing.

Is Plague Inc. worth $14.99? I watched the Game Grumps play it for their Halloweek and it looked really entertaining. I just want to know if as a fairly casual gamer I should pay that for it or wait for to go on sale or in a humble bundle.

I love these simulation type of games (Organ/Oregon/FTL).

I bought Shadow Dragon for like $15 clearance. It was fun for the first play around but I eventually got lazy and thus it was difficult to progress. Since then I've been able to commit to actually beating it.

Wow. So I remember all the time I spent struggling to beat Dragon Slayer in F2P Runescape, until I finally did it for the first time like a year ago.

Now however, I started a new account on Halloween and beat it just now at level 36 combat. I've only been playing about 1-3 hours a day casually, a lot of which was thorough Dungeoneering and of course doing all the quests required to get the 33QP for Dragon Slayer.

It's just very shocking to see how the game has changed so much, how I can beat this so easily (I had about a full inventory of lobsters yet I used no more than ten of them). Or maybe I've just gotten wiser and more tactical about how the game works. Shrug. I still love it and will never ever let it go probably.

For the first DS, here are some of my recommendations:

Elite Beat Agents
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (though if you've played beyond Gen IV of the real series the DS titles may be a little disappointing, I think they're great though)
Ace Attorney (I mean I'm only somewhat through the first one but it's great so far and there is a 10-page thread loving on it)
Professor Layton

Also Unwound Future is the only Professor Layton I've played but I think it's the least cared about and it's still pretty good so

Love it.

I've had the alpha for over a year now and basically every other month, I start it up and play for several hours. It's a great game. It ticks all the right boxes for me... the management, the building... jeez, I spend HOURS of my time in the planning mode, just mapping out how I want my cell blocks to look, trying to chart out a maximum efficiency design... it's addictive.

Speaking of which, I might pick up Evil Genius. It looks pretty similar and it's cheap.

Thanks! ^_^

The only truly hard part about the Meat Circus is
the part where there are those cylindrical grate pieces that you have to jump to.
On 2005's Psychonauts it was fiendishly tricky, but I'm not even sure a current 3d platformer could make that sort of spatial reasoning any easier to think out and execute.

I don't know how into let'splayers you guys are, well yes I do not very much, but I've been enjoying a bunch of videos by Run Button recently. I think they are from the Something Awful forums, but they're pretty great. They have the commitment of a major channel, but their discussions are real and not really over the top. Plus their projects are pretty cool: playing through main series Silent Hills, 20 years of Sonic, and 30 years of Mario. And their Game of the Year podcasts are long, interesting discussions and have really made me nostalgic and intrigued by the games of the past few years.

DSfix and patience.

I played through the first boss and really enjoyed it; everyone commends Bloodborne for its scenery but Dark Souls is by no means an ugly duckling. The mechanics are as you've described: no direction or map was a bit frustrating and I got lost right away, and the combat is tricky but you pick it up. Ultimately I got past the first boss and new enemies sprung up, but because I was terrible and spent so much time on the beginning enemies, I had little motivation to learn something new. You're probably a much better gamer than I, however.

Just finished Episode 1 of
The Wolf Among Us
. It's pretty great! Even though I've played the Walking Dead I feel like every choice matters. Plus the story is something I'm entirely unfamiliar with which makes it all the more interesting.

Also like all of my choices were in the minority, with a few being in the very minority. I made good use of the silence option though so. :/

Oman, did you buy it on sale somewhere? It's the only one I don't have.

Anyway, I've been really into Audiosurf recently. Fun challenging tracks:
"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"
"I Will Wait"
"Call Me Maybe"

"In a House - In a Heartbeat" by John Murphy (the theme from 28 days later) is also really neat.

The Hitman series was on sale but I missed because I was unsure where to start.

Should I get the first one and start at the beginning or just go with a more recent one?

I'd skip the first one. Has not aged very well (and Contracts remakes a fair bit of the missions from Hitman 1).

2/Contracts/Blood Money play fairly differently from Absolution. The former are open sandbox levels, the latter is much more linear with mini sandboxes dispersed throughout. It's not bad, but my least favorite after 1. IMO, 2 is more unforgiving than Contracts and Blood Money, so start with 2 if you like a challenge, Contracts otherwise.

Sound advice :) Thank you <3

I grabbed
LISA: the Painful RPG
on the sale. Anyone else have any experience with it?

It is a 2d side-scroller/RPG made in RPG Maker. It's all very weird and unsettling but really super cool and fleshed out.

Hey y'all. I'm back to tell you that if LISA goes back on sale during the encore, you should all probably get it.

I feel like no one has heard of this game even though it came out six months ago, yet it is one of the most unique and interesting experiences out there right now. I played for about forty-five minutes just now and:

- fought a boss that was half hair, half three men
- rested at a campfire and got one of my party members stolen
- raced on my bicycle around a 2d platform obstacle course
- got accosted by a tricky sort who I then battled to the tune of an African tribal chant

It's soooo much fun. Since it's an RPG it is a little loosey-goosey at times, and the humor can be incredibly dark, but that makes it a wildly unpredictable experience that still feels fair.

Also I'm probably a bit biased anyway because I won maybe all but two of the games we played with friends :/

This is a weird question, but can people tell me how they
play
Pokemon?

I just feel like I play it with a set of rules that I must follow and I can't ever play it loosely. Like my pokemon have to be in my party in order of level and then if their level is tied, by order of HP, once they level up I shift the order around so it makes sense again, etc. I just feel on the glimpses of LPs and Nuzlockes I've seen people are able to play more freely while I've been playing this way since I got Pokemon Yellow. It frustrates me.

A few things:

1) from my "I love ranking things" perspective, I wish they would've done more to mask the way they were ranking it. It made for very boring choosing.
2) This just made me feel that I need to play more cool games :( for the first few rounds I skipped a lot, and a lot of my voting was done based on LPs I had seen or other stuff I had heard from the game.
3) Silent Hill 2 would not have been my first choice to represent that franchise. The first one is just tighter conceptually and neater overall.

Spoiler: My list
1) Shadow of the Colossus
2) Undertale
3) The Walking Dead
4) Pokemon Red/Blue
5) Super Mario 64
6) Minecraft
7) Pokemon Gold/Silver
8) Silent Hill 2
9) Final Fantasy IV
10) Super Mario Galaxy
11) Journey
12) Portal
13) Zelda: The Wind Waker
14) Zelda: Majora's Mask
15) Dark Souls
16) Resident Evil
17) Cave Story
18) Zelda: A Link to the Past
19) Phoenix Wright
20) Super Mario World

I think that's very representative of what I like in games, though. I think Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite video game for reals; I just like how it does what it does so simply yet so beautifully and wonderously. I've gushed over Undertale elsewhere but I love it's inherent vivacity and the oxymoronic "open linearity" of it. The Walking Dead just crafts a wonderful story with a collection of great characters. Pokemon and SM64 for their nostalgia and simplicity and colorfulness (SMG can go here too); minecraft for its ingenuity and complete openness. Silent Hill 2 takes what the first three have and adds the creep factor, which just feels rare in modern gaming (rip silent hills). FFIV is an odd duck choice I suppose but I'm glad it has snuck into "best game ever" consideration with VI/VII/IX/X. There's a bit of nostalgia with this but I also really love the story.

I think PUBG deserves its praise because it took the battle royal concept that vessels like Minecraft / Roblox have tried and distilled it into a form that can be widely appreciated and enjoyed.

BotW is my game of the year, but mostly because it's the only one I've played #casual. I see it's flaws, but it's also like the perfect experience for me. I'm hyped for when I get Switchrim for Christmas but I'm also like "so you're telling me there's no mini-puzzle dungeons? "

OK so yes the puzzle concept in the Witness was great but everything surrounding it was incredibly pretentious but didn't even get close to saying anything profound.

I am playing Persona 5 and really enjoying it. I'm worried that I've fallen a bit behind already and it's like three game days in, but that's mostly due to the online activity log, while the game hasn't given me any signalling that I'm ill-prepared.

That activity log feature is a GODSEND. Less due to the percentages and more to show you any and all options you have at that point in the game. Even if it isn't, it feels like it's giving me all the options to choose from so that I don't miss anything I might want to do.

well i want to be a bot now

I don't like complex games like CYBERPUNK 2077™ but I am currently replaying GOLF STORY™ and it is a major blast! As a golfician , i appreciate the golf and the story is good.

What are your thoughts on: VIDEO GAMES?
