CURRENT QUESTION

What alcoholic cocktail calls for pouring two parts orange juice to one part vodka in a highball glass full of ice, stirring the ingredients together gently, and garnishing with an orange slice?

RULES

The rules have some slight differences from way back when I ran the game in 2012 as well as doctorwho's revival the next year, so pay attention. It is, to some extent, a combination of both rulesets.

LOGISTICS

For the first match, the first to sign up will be X and the second player will be O. In subsequent games, the champion will be X and the next person in the player queue will challenge as O. The player and panelist queues are separate and you do not have to be a panelist before being a player if you miss the player spots for the first game. However, you cannot be a player and a panelist in the same game. In the event that this would occur, you will be a player first and your place in the panelist queue will be held until you are defeated. For each match, the first player in the panelist queue is the center square, the second player is in the top left square, and the remaining seven squares are filled off the top in clockwise order.

Please specify which queue(s) you would like to enter when signing up. By default, you will be placed only in the player queue.

MAIN GAME

X will start the first game and be asked to select a panelist. I will then ask said panelist a question. You may, if you wish, give a bluff answer like the celebrities on the actual show (Hollywood Squares), but I need your real answer in bold, and you must attempt the question. After a panelist gives an answer, I will go back to the contestant. If he or she thinks the panelist answered the question correctly, the contestant will bold the word
Agree
; otherwise he or she will bold the word
Disagree
. I will then reveal the answer. If the contestant correctly guessed whether or not the panelist is correct, he or she will be awarded the square, otherwise, the square will be given to the opponent (with one exception that I'll discuss later). I will then repeat the process with the other player. Squares are worth $250 in the first two rounds and $500 in subsequent rounds.

The first player to get three in a row (or five on the board) wins the game; however, you must win by actually earning your last square–you cannot win through your opponent's mistake. If you attempt a block and fail or if your incorrect guess would give your opponent five squares, the square goes back up on the board. Winning the game is worth a $1,000 bonus for the first two games and a $2,000 bonus for the third game. After the third match, the player with the most cash (note the wording) goes on to the bonus round. If there is a tie, I will ask a sudden-death question. If the first person to respond answers correctly, they will earn $500; an incorrect answer gives $500 to the opponent.

The second game, stared by the challenger, is a Secret Square round. A panelist will be selected at random; whichever contestant picks that panelist will be allowed to play for a trip. If you correctly agree or disagree with the panelist, you win the trip; otherwise, the Secret Square prize goes unawarded. The value of the trip does not count toward your score for the purposes of main game play, but it does count toward your leaderboard winnings. The panelists will be PM'd which of them is the Secret Square; I will also PM a non-player who the Secret Square is on request.

BONUS ROUND

I will ask you to pick a panelist; your selection will determine the prize for which you will be playing. You have five chances in nine for playing for $5,000, one chance in three of playing for $10,000, and one chance in nine of playing for a car. The panelist will be asked one more question, and then you agree or disagree with him or her as in the main game. A correct agreement or disagreement wins the prize; an incorrect agreement or disagreement loses the bonus round.

A FEW OTHER THINGS

If you go 48 hours without an action, I will prod you. If you fail to respond within 24 hours, you will receive a strike and one of the following will happen depending on the scenario:
  • If a player was supposed to pick a square, one will be chosen at random.
  • If a panelist was supposed to answer a question, I will ask the contestant whether to attempt the question him- or herself. If the contestant elects to answer, the question will be played as if the panelist gave the answer given and the contestant agreed with it; if the contestant declines, I will give the answer and ask the same panelist another question and the same contestant to agree or disagree.
  • If a player was supposed to agree or disagree or to respond to a question, it is treated as an incorrect choice or answer.
Getting three activity strikes as a player forfeits the match to your opponent, while getting three activity strikes as a panelist will result in a force-replacement with the next eligible player in the panelist queue. A panelist who is force-replaced out may not replace back in during the same match; however, a panelist voluntarily asking to be replaced for any reason retains their eligibility to replace back into the match later if they so happen to be the next available panelist in the queue.

There is one exception to the standard prod rules: you will not be prodded in sudden death. If neither player attempts the sudden death question within 24 hours of it being asked, I will give the answer and ask another question.

Need one more panelist to start (since you can't be a player and a panelist in the same match).

Their words are "If a request is made to 'please pass the salt,' only pass the requested spice. While in the U.S., the salt and pepper are sometimes 'married,' meaning they always stay together on the table, that is not the case in France." Circle gets the square :)

Tatsuya Kaname,
while the book
War and Peace
was mostly written in Russian, parts of its dialogue were written in another language that the Russian aristocracy was expected to know at the time the book opens. Is this language English, French, or German?

Duolingo teaches two languages that are not currently offered for English speakers besides English itself, but are offered to Spanish speakers. One is Guaraní, an indigenous language official in Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. The other is a semi-official language of the European Union spoken on the east coast of Spain and the official language of Andorra. What is it?

VastaNeurotic,
Which of the following American cities have all five of a Major League Baseball team, a Major League Soccer team, a National Basketball League team, a National Football League team, and a National Hockey League team in their metropolitan area: Denver, Houston, or Phoenix?

Xalxe, it'll be you to agree or disagree.

Spoiler: For the match, the city out of Denver, Houston, and Phoenix with all five of an MLB, MLS, NBA, NFL, and NHL team is...
Denver :D X gets the square and five on the board!

(
Edited to add:
There's no MLS team in Phoenix, nor is there an NHL team in Houston.)

Charles510, I'm sorry it worked out that way, but we will see you on our panel next game :) All is not lost, and you leave us with $5,250.

Xalxe, so far this match, you have won $7,750 in cash as well as the trip to Jamaica worth $9,590, making your total winnings so far $17,340, and you could win more in the bonus round, which will be soon! Good luck :D

Xalxe, you will be playing for... the car :D

racefan12,
what alcoholic cocktail calls for pouring two parts orange juice to one part vodka in a highball glass full of ice, stirring the ingredients together gently, and garnishing with an orange slice?

Psst... While you wait for me to be bothered with writing questions, can I convince you to sign up for Ferris Wheel? Signups are guaranteed to be open for at least 24 more hours or so, maybe longer to make sure I get 12.

I apologize to the people who were excited to play this, but I have lost the mod interest to run this anymore. This should probably have been run as a one-off. Codenames, despite having an ongoing game right now, is more than happy to take people for the next game as consolation for my broken promise.

Sorry for the inconvenience :(
