What is the best version of Munchkin?

Never played it but I'm looking to buy it.

Edit: Question 2: I want to buy Shadow Hunters. Do I buy it on the main site for 40 bucks or from Amazon for 30? If I buy it from Amazon do I get the bonus 10 characters?

Got Coup, Sheriff of Nottingham, and Betrayal at the House on the Hill.

I love Coup, it's the perfect balance of simple and tactical.

Haven't tried Sheriff yet.

Betrayal on first playthrough was kind of rough, as I'd only played it once and the people I was playing with hadn't played at all. But I think it's a game that gets better after you've played it a couple times. I was the traitor, and my banshee got wrecked in two rounds due to luck unfortunately.

I actually think it's incredibly elegant. It takes about a game to teach people, but afterwards it makes sense to them. Played that and Resistance with family, both went over very well.

I tell the truth too much unfortunately.

I feel like one can pretty easily claim to have a duke early on and get away with it.

So I recall seeing a kickstarter for a board game that used code words that were dropped in conversations to allow people to find their team mates

Does this ring a bell to anyone? I'm looking for more big group social games and the concept seems cool.

It was a mafia like game. People had roles and stuff.

Meh. I'll make my own version, it's all good.

Hey

This isn't exactly a Board Game but

I tested this out last night:

Choose two captains. Each captain writes a codeword on pieces of paper. Pieces of paper are distributed evenly amongst the rest of the players.

Players have 3 minutes to talk amongst themselves and try to figure out who is on their team by dropping hints referencing their codeword. Captains can walk around and talk as well.

Once time is up, everyone writes down who they believe is on their team (minus captains). Everyone closes their eyes and captain one says his codeword and anyone with that word raises their hand and that team is written down. Repeat for other team.

Captains choose a player from the opposite team. Whichever team has a more accurate list wins.

If odd amount of players, one player recieves a blank piece of paper. He wins if he ends up on one of the lists read at the end.

Ended up being really fun.

It's a lot like spyfall, but it's good because sometimes we have too many players for mafia and don't feel like playing 2rooms, so it's another nice game to play with a big group.

And the blank piece of paper does not stop the teams from winning, he's like a survivor, he wins regardless of which team wins. But I mean you could homebrew your own rules.

Edit: The words were "cup" and "yellow" and people started saying "you want some lemonade?" confusing the shit out of both teams ahahaha

It's honestly pretty fucking broken sadly

there are no good rules for even number of players in a room.

ex: 6 players in a room. 3 red, 3 blue. How do you dictate leadership fairly? The only rules I believe it offers is "first to vote gets it" but that ends up with games won/lost over who can say "I VOTE HIM" first.
Until I can find a way to fix that 2rooms is kind of dead to me.

I'll most likely be getting it anyways, sounds like a pretty basic game to have in my collection.

Also, are there like gaming bags? I'm carrying my games around in boxes and feel they deserve better.

I'll check out Memoir 44, I loved Smallworld and I know Ticket to Ride is good as well by the same people.

I don't know if this is exactly relevant, but I played Jackbox Party Pack recently and I was blown away at how smart it is.

Why the hell have more board games not used the system that Jackbox does? Individuals play from their phones with the main screen to display everything.

I feel this shit is the future of board games. Maybe I'm over reacting?

(Someone should definitely create a mafia client that uses that technology... but I digress.)

Do you play with full reveals only?

I have multiple people in my group who actually request that game

Normally I do three games of it and move on:
1. Bomber/Engineer + President/Doctor
2. Add Sniper/Target/Decoy + Shy Guys or some other team roles
3. Bullshit game with Hot Potato and Leprechaun and whatever else

I always do full reveals though

The biggest balance issue comes when numbers prevent leaders to be changed and one team controls both rooms

Gauging interest for Game of Thrones PBEM on this site

Or a live version if we pick a night

Just really missing me some board games.

If there's interest I can make a Mish Mash thread for it

I was thrown off by the sheer confusion I got from playing one game of Root (I remember my castle-thing got destroyed a few rounds in LOL)

Willing to try again after I try to understand the rules and strategies better.
Root is the epitome of a game you have to play multiple times to get

And it evolves as you play because if in your group the vagabond seems to always win, players will team up against the vagabond player in the future

The only thing that is fairly unanimous opinion wise is that the Cats are underpowered and tbh quite unfun. They're the Big Bad Guy so everyone always makes them the enemy and they tend to lose cause of it.
