This was a pretty remarkable scum performance from a player who has a consistently strong game across both alignments.

Open 732 went down very strangely for a “Pick Your Power” game, in that there were very few power roles on either side, none of whom had a particularly meaningful impact on the game. She had also (apparently) rolled scum for the first time in over six months. Despite the fact that a 3v11 semi-open which plays out as near-mountainous presents as fairly scum-sided, this was a nail-biter of a game.

She rolled scum with two other players who were reasonably quickly correctly read as scum, and both of whom skitter had a documented history of correctly reading. Despite a rocky start involving slightly messy associatives, a spectacularly-failed scum PGO gambit and back-to-back scum lynches, she managed to navigate through it to her advantage. In the early phases she picked the correct moments to bus her team-mates, and managed to keep up enough momentum (and seemingly-townie posts) to avoid much pressure.

The early game was only really a teaser of how well she would perform this game. During the early and mid-game, she successfully shot all four TPRs from n1-n4, heavily pocketed the town neighbouriser, and reduced the ‘gravity’ of her presence leading into endgame just enough that she never quite seemed like she should have eaten a night-kill.

But the really notable part of this game is appreciating how she won MyLo, with a bit of extra context. Simultaneously to Open 732, she had rolled scum in a Large Theme Game jjh927 ran called “Gerrymandering Shadow Government Democracy Mafia”. This game ended around the same time as Open 732’s MyLo. In GSGDM, she emerged in a crippled LyLo gamestate with a flurry of townie posts which lead to her becoming king-made, winning the game for scum. Two of the townies left alive with her in Open 732 witnessed her scum win in GSGDM—two townies who she had spent Open 732 pocketing. She played Open 732 every bit as strongly as GSGDM, yet masked her scum meta so well, that she was able to overcome a 4p MyLo including two townies who had freshly lost to her as scum in another game. In fact, she won Open 732 when these two townies decided to hammer-test her.

The winner of Don Corleone for 2018 was:

Spoiler: Winner
Skitter30 for PYP
